Step up into the full-frame game with the EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera from Canon. Making high-performance full-frame imaging more accessible, the 6D Mark II makes numerous advancements over its predecessor to improve upon every aspect of image capture and creation. The main update comes in the form of a 26.2MP CMOS sensor and the use of the DIGIC 7 Image Processor to deliver sharper, more vivid imagery in a variety of shooting situations. This setup offers an improved native sensitivity range of ISO 100-40000, which can then be expanded to ISO 50-102400, as well as speedy shooting rates of up to 6.5 fps.

Ensuring your images are tack sharp is a 45-point all-cross type AF system, which is able to track subjects with accuracy. This marks a significant improvement over its predecessor and will result in faster acquisition of your subject. Along with a revamped AF system, the sensor features Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology to provide a boost to focusing in live view and video shooting, which itself has been bumped up to Full HD at 60p. This setup works well with the 3" 1.04m-dot vari-angle touchscreen LCD, which permits use at various angles and with intuitive controls.

For hybrid stills/video shooters, you will enjoy the enhanced video quality as well as the ability to plug in an external mic via a 3.5mm input. Users will also have the ability to create 4K time-lapse movies as well as HDR video with dedicated settings and modes. Additionally, the body design has received an upgrade with improved ergonomics and durability, including dust and water resistance. Users will have access to many connectivity options as well, such as Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth, for connecting to a smart device, and built-in GPS for geotagging your photos.

Offering boosts to both resolution and low-light performance, the 6D Mark II uses a newly developed 26.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor that works in tandem with a DIGIC 7 Image Processor to create sharp, vivid imagery and video. This contributes to high performance in low light with native sensitivity range of ISO 100-40000, which can then be expanded to ISO 50-102400, if desired.

Assisting with the capture of properly exposed images is a 7560-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor that helps minimize the impact of flickering lights in your images and ensures accurate reading of the entire scene.

Ensuring your subject is tack sharp, the 6D Mark II incorporates an all-cross type AF system, which offers 45 phase-detect points, for advanced tracking and focusing while using the optical finder for stills. This AF system can operate in lighting conditions as low as -3 EV and will work with various lenses with maximum aperture of f/8 and smaller, though with a maximum of 27 points. Five different AF area selection modes are available as well, for optimizing performance to your subject matter.

When using Live View and recording video, you can now use Dual Pixel CMOS AF on the actual imaging sensor. This offers wide coverage of phase-detection autofocus for faster and more accurate focusing in these modes. It is ideal for video as users will enjoy smoother rack focusing without the downsides normally encountered with contrast-based systems. Also, this works well with the touchscreen functions, allowing shooters to just tap to adjust focus.

For multimedia creation, the 6D Mark II comes equipped with powerful Full HD video recording options. The 6D Mark II offers improved speed with a maximum frame rate of 60p when capturing Full HD video. It also offers Digital IS with 5-axis image stabilization to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. This benefits recording while walking or moving, and can also be used in conjunction with lenses featuring optical IS for more effective overall stabilization. Audio is high quality as well, with the ability to use either the built-in microphone or an external microphone via a 3.5mm input.

  • A large 3.0" 1.04m-dot vari-angle LCD monitor is available for bright, vivid image playback and live view shooting, and its touchscreen interface features an anti-smudge design and can be used for intuitive touch-to-focus control and adjusting settings in the menus.
  • A single SD card slot is available for saving photos and video.
  • Optical viewfinder offers approximately 98% coverage of the frame and has a magnification of 0.71x.
  • The durable body design is dust- and weather-sealed to permit working in harsh environments.

    • A built-in GPS module allows you to geotag imagery in-camera as well as auto time sync with the Universal Time Code via satellites. This module is compatible with American GPS, Russian GLONASS, and Japanese quasi-zenith Michibiki satellites for a wide coverage of support.
    • A built-in intervalometer permits the creation of UHD 4K time-lapse imagery and supports recording consecutive frames in pre-selected intervals.
    • Bluetooth permits linking a smartphone or tablet for quick image sharing between devices as well as remote control capabilities.
    • Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity enable wireless sharing, control, and image transfer with a compatible smart device as well as the CS100 Connect Station.

      Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I do not get the images I want from the 90D. Should I switch to Canon 6D Mark ll? Is it more forgiving?

A: The Canon EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera has a larger sensor than the Canon EOS 90D DSLR Camera. For this reason, images will have better detail and less noise when shooting in low light.

Q: 2. what is err 20? and why?

A: Getting an error 20 message on the Canon EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera signifies a shutter or mirror problem. The problem could be temporarily rectified by turning off the camera, removing the battery, and reinserting it. However, the camera needs to be sent to Canon for service.

Q: 3. I see no mention of an audio out or headphone jack? How can I monitor my camera sound quality?

A: There is no headphone jack on the 6DII a person will have to link to a computer and camera to gether and use that audio jack.

A: The Canon EOS 6D Mark II DSLR Camera does not shoot 4k video.

When this Camera was released, it's specs were underwhelming to say the least.. I recently got a very good deal on this camera and picked it up. If you can get it for a bargain, do it.
Low light performance is pretty outstanding in my opinion.
Focusing system is fast and accurate.
Colors are spectacular. I really do not know why so many people were so disappointed with this camera once they've used it. It performed so well that I may just never sell it. It really is that good.
I haven't had it that long and have only used 2 lenses with it. But it really impressed me.
I used the Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC and the Cheap Ol'Nifty Fifty 50mm 1.8 STM.. side note.. when canon updated the nifty 50.. I wasn't expecting much.. but it performs noticeably better.. It's no L lens.. but.. it really does perform well..
I added a few pictures that I took last night while I was waiting for the model to finish getting ready.

This was my first full frame camera and I had previously been using a crop sensor camera. The difference in quality has been amazing. The camera is fairly easy to use and has so many great features. Would definitely recommend this camera!

After reading many reviews, I opted for this camera. I upgraded from the T6i and love it! Easy to use and produces high quality images!! Some reviews state there’s a steep learning curve but I disagree.

Product is great. No issues with that at all. I have had no issues in the past with shipping but this time it was late by 3 days and nobody from Fed Ex could tell me for a couple days exactly where my package was. Wasn't happy about that considering what the item was. That being said , it arrived and I have had no issues.

I bought this camera back in June and I love it. It makes for a great first full-frame camera and could also be a perfect backup camera. My only issue with it is that it doesn't have dual card slots and it lacks focus points towards the outside of the frame. I bought this camera knowing that these two things may bother me, but they don't bother me enough to give it a low rating. It performs better than all of the cameras I have had prior. I do plan on investing in the 5D Mk IV next, but keeping this for backup, as I stated previously.

I purchased this camera as a retirement gift for myself. I had a Rebel that was 12 years This is so much nicer!
I have so much to learn about it, but looking forward to the journey!

I purchased the 6D Mark II in December of 2018 and I have fallen in love with the camera. It has great ISO performance and offers more features than its counterpart, the D750. While the Dynamic Range was a little surprising, I haven't encountered any issues with it in post processing so far. The focus is quick and accurate, although the 45 AF points are a bit clustered in the middle. The camera feels great in the hands, and outdoes its Nikon counterpart in terms of build quality. The camera handles complex scenes very well even with minimal light when shooting landscapes. The touch screen is precise and responsive.

I just received my 6D II yesterday. I am impressed, to say the least. However, when I saw the thickness of the owner's manual I almost had heart failure! It's over an inch thick! But...it's in three languages so that explained a lot. *Whew* I immediately charged the battery and took some test shots. Totally impressed. The experts may not be too crazy about the 6D II but I am! I upgraded from my trusty 40D and I am not sorry I did. I use two L series lenses: 24-70 f/2.8 and a 70-200 f/2.8. The 6D II will make those lenses shine even more.

The attached images were taken with the 6D II with the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L lens-hand held with only available lighting. Aperture priority setting and auto ISO. RAW converted to .jpg with Photoshop Lightroom.

TAKE NOTE!: RAW images taken with cameras manufactured after 12/2017 are no longer compatible with most older Apps and/or programs. My Lightroom 4.0 could not read the RAW images taken by the 6D II. You will/may need to upgrade. I had to forsake my trusty LR 4.0 and became a paying member of Adobe's Creative Cloud family. I chose to download just Lightroom.

For some, not having 4K video may be an issue. Did not matter to me as I seldom use video.

This WILL be a great upgrade to an enthusiast's full-frame. I still have lots to read and learn about the 6D II so I just may be adding to this review. Enjoy!!
