The Senal ENG-18RL is a broadcast-quality omnidirectional dynamic microphone. The dynamic capsule picks up sound in a 360° pattern and does not require a battery or phantom power, making it a reliable choice for critical field applications. The microphone's exceptionally low handling noise and resistance to wind noise and vocal plosives make it perfect for professional ENG applications like live reporting, interviews, and press conferences.

At multiple areas inside the microphone, natural rubber with special shock-absorbing properties is bonded to carbon steel rings to isolate the sealed inner shell from the outer shell. This system protects the microphone capsule from impacts and inclement weather, and dissipates kinetic energy, dramatically reducing handling noise and resonance due to rustling and knocking.

The microphone also incorporates multistage wind protection to minimize wind noise and vocal plosives. A mesh grille, acoustic foam, acoustic fabric, and another layer of acoustic foam work to diffuse excess sound pressure from wind and breath. A fixed rigid carbon-steel ring with a unique bullet-shaped design disperses breath to minimize vocal plosives.

The EQ curve is tailored for broadcast use, with a gradual low-frequency roll-off to keep out unwanted rumble, a pronounced midrange to ensure speech intelligibility, and a high-frequency roll-off to eliminate hiss and sibilance distortion. Whether broadcasting on television, AM/FM radio, or over the internet, the ENG-18RL is designed to ensure that dialogue cuts through the mix, and can be broadcast live without EQ adjustment.

The ENG-18RL features a durable aluminum-alloy shaft designed for EMI rejection and reduced internal resonance, with a matte black finish for a professional appearance and minimum light reflection. The mic is also long enough to accommodate a mic flag.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hello, would like to ask the circumference of the handle for this model? thanks

A: 4.08 circumference.

Q: 2. how does this microphone work - need a user guide?

A: The Electro-Voice 635A is a wired dynamic mic. most commonly used for interviews. There unfortunately is no instruction manual, but all documentation available is downloadable from the Electro-Voice website.

Q: 3. Can this microphone be used with the Zoom H4n?

A: Yes, the Electro-Voice 635A Handheld Dynamic ENG Microphone can be used with the Zoom H4n Portable Handy Recorder.

Q: 4. Will this mic work with the Roland R-07 recorder? Thanks.

A: This is a dynamic mic, hence it does not require power. As long as you have the proper cable, you should be fine.

Q: 5. Does this mic not require any power at all? I'm basically looking to run it directly to a DSLR--with an adapter, of course.

A: The Senal ENG-18RL is a dynamic mic. No power required. It can connect to a DSLR with the proper cable and adapter. a href= http://bhpho.to/1yMIinD target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1yMIinD/a

Q: 6. Can this mic be used with a parabolic dish?

A: No. This style of mic would not be used with a parabolic dish. It's usually a shotgun or lavalier.

Q: 7. I've found some issues with playback via mobile devices. It records properly, imports, and exports. Connected to both a DSLR and Vixia HV40 via XLR-Stereo Mini-Plug, However, when uploaded and anyone tries to use headphones or tries to playback on a mobile device the sound is garbled. Any thoughts?????

A: Hi. I had the same issue. Was really annoying. Not sure what editor you use or if you do, but I use adobe premiere pro cc, and if I go to effects, and add the effect fill left with right or right with left , can't remember which one I used, but add that effect and then it works fine. Not sure how other editors would work. But thats the only solution I've found.

Q: 8. How does this microphone perform in loud environments?

A: It's a omnidirectional microphone, so it will pick up some background noise. However as long as the subject speaks into the microphone it will sound clear. For less background noise I would recommend looking into a cardioid handheld microphone.

Q: 9. Hello. Why should I go with Neodymium Capsule instead of the normal one? Thanks

A: The RE 50 with a Neodymium capsule will add additional gain to the mic.

Q: 10. Can you record and monitor thru the head set at the same time?

A: Yes -the adapter is designed to monitor the audio feed from the microphone.

I got this microphone for on-site audio for a client that wanted people to come up and talk to the camera at random. This mic worked really well with my long XLR cord and was able to pick up great audio of people speaking, even with a DJ speakers playing music just outside where we set up. I also love that it doesn't require power and I can hook it up to my H4 recording device (with XLR cord) and record myself that way. I think it would be a solid mic for entry-level podcasting or voice-over work. Overall, I'm satisfied!

This is a great quality, classic mic with good quality sound that resists extreme weather with ease. We use this mic in extremely snowy and cold conditions, and the mic has never had a problem. When you hold it, it is clear that is very solid construction. The sound is great quality. The mic flag fits perfectly on the handle. The flag is actually slightly trapezoidal, which made attaching branding to it a little more complicated. It was not a problem though, and I would highly recommend getting this combination kit.

I actually use this microphone more with DJ applications (using an XLR wireless plug-in transmitter) than Interviewing and it work great. I chose the Long handle verses the Regular (which is just personal preference) but quality of either would be the same in my opinion. Sound quality and clarity great and I would buy again as a back-up.

Excellent build quality, crystal clear sound. I use this mic for on the street interviews with a mic flag and windscreen plugged into a Tascam DR-40, monitoring audio through headphones. It sounds great!

We use this pop filter on an Electrovoice 635L/B, and it works perfectly. Even in 50-60km/h+ winds, the sound is not affected. Very effective filter. Fits snug and doesn't come off easily.

Senal's ENG-18RL broadcast quality dynamic microphone lives up to its promise. The mic picks up voices clearly from two or three feet around clearly and evenly. Working on video projects for an organization for adults with developmental disabilities, our interviewers have an array of talents and varied abilities. This microphone simplifies the interview process by eliminating the need to pass the mic back and forth. This allows our interviewers to focus on their other on-air skills. I would recommend this as an excellent mic for entry-level or experienced broadcasters.
