Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this fit into the Shure A412B ACC Base for Microflex Desktop Gooseneck ?

A: Yes, the Shure MX418SS 18" Super-Cardioid Gooseneck Microphone with Switch will fit into the Shure A412B ACC Base for Microflex Desktop Gooseneck.

Q: 2. Can you power these using 12V Phantom Power?

A: Yes, the Shure MX418D/C can operate using between 11 to 52V phantom power.

Q: 3. This has the push-to-talk function. Does it have a button to leave the mic on continuously without having to use the push feature?

A: There are DIP switch settings for leaving the mic on continuously. See page 3 of the instruction manual for settings:a href= http://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/89563.pdf target= _blank http://static.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/89563.pdf/a

Q: 4. cell phone interference?

A: As this is not a wireless product, cell phone interference shouldn't be an issue.

Q: 5. Is this adapter wired for Lectrosonics Servo wiring, or Universal wiring?

A: This specification is not published by DPA, but available upon request. The DPA DAD3056 uses universal wiring and is listed to work with all LM, SM and UM series transmitters. Should you have an M185 wireless system, this adapter will not work. You will need the DAD6012.

Q: 6. Can I connect it to my laptop?

A: This condenser goose neck mic can be used with a computer with the addition of an audio interface, such as the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2x2 USB Audio Interface (3rd Generation), BH #FOSCARSOLO3G. The audio interface can provide the necessary 48 volt phantom power that the mic requires, as well as convert the analog signal into a digital signal, which then conects via the included USB cable to your computer.

Q: 7. On/off switch?

A: There is not an on/off switch. It would need to either be unplugged or, preferably, muted (or turned all the way down) at the soundboard, for it to not be on. Also, this requires phantom power to operate. But all of those things are very deliberate and appropriate. Generally speaking, no mic in this class of mics anywhere has an on/off switch. Why? Because this mic is much more powerful and sensitive than a standard hand-held mic. And it is designed for picking up singers or instruments that are just out of reach to the mic anyways.. .and the act of a person just touching the mic, in a higher volume application, will easily cause a thumping sound noticeable to the audience. Again, rightly so. This is NOT suppose to have a person's mouth just a an inch or two away. That is not what this mic is for. It is for (a) recording a group of voices/instruments that are a few feet away, not inches away... so it picks up sounds that are further away than a hand held vocal mic will so. To do that, it is much more sensitive and shouldn't be touched during operation. If you have to move it during a performance, then the sound person should mute it at the soundboard during the move, your you'll hear lots of popping and cracking noises. That all being said, this is all the way it is suppose to work... if any of these things were not true, the mic wouldn't be able to accomplish its main missions very well. It does what it was designed to do VERY well at a GREAT price for the excellent quality of mic this is. i've used several of these for years and have been very happy with them.

Q: 8. If 2 people were sitting at a table roughly 3-4 feet apart and this mic were set in between them would it pick them both up clearly?

A: The microphone may pick up some speech from both speakers if they are sitting side by side in front of the mic. However, as it is a cardioid mic (not omni), you may not get satisfactory results in terms of intelligibility with two speakers sitting opposite each other. We would recommend you use 2 of these mics, one for each speaker.

Q: 9. Can this be mounted without the shock mount onto a regular surface mount XLR Female (like the Neutrik NA3FDM)?

A: Yes, the Shure MX418S 18" Supercardioid Gooseneck Microphone with Preamp should be capable of mounting directly to a sturdy, compatible 3-Pin XLR female connection without the included flange mount.

Q: 10. Is the spec. given here for the diaphragm an error? i.e., 0.05' / 16 mm. Surely 16mm = 0.5'

A: Here us the specification as published by DPA microphones: Capsule Diameter - 16mm (0.6 in).
