A: This drive is rated very well for NAS devices, which is similar, if not identical, to running as a RAID pair in a desktop box. The drive is sufficient and recommended for that purpose.

Q: 2. How are the 10tb reds noise wise? are they load?

A: I have 4 of them in a NAS. When spinning, each one is a little more audible than an old Seagate Barracuda 4TB drive in same NAS. Also, one out of the 4 Red 10TB drives hums much much louder than the whole rest of the NAS, so your mileage may vary... a lot.

A: Yes you certainly can. However, I use them for data and not gaming. I prefer a black or raptor for gaming....or a spare SSD if you are flush.

A: You can use these drives with a DAS but they are optimized for NAS enclosures.

A: The difference is one is a retail package, meaning it is packaged in a Western Digital box and the other is a bare drive. Usually sent in the static bag and packaged appropriately to protect in shipment. Retail package generally costs more due to packaging from the manufacturer.

A: Yes, on the upper right of the label on the HDD there is text NASware 3.0

A: This # would come from WD itself and should be marked on the HDDs. The ECCN does allow exportation to Australia.
