A flexible wide-angle zoom in a compact form factor, the EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM from Canon is a 16-28.8mm equivalent lens designed for EF-S-mount DSLRs. Helping to reduce the overall size while maintaining high optical quality, a four-group zoom design is employed along with one ultra-low dispersion element, one aspherical element, and one large-diameter element to produce sharp, clear imagery void of chromatic and spherical aberrations. A Super Spectra coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color neutrality. Benefitting both photo and video applications, an STM stepping AF motor is used to realize quick and near-silent autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. Additionally, a four-stop-effective Image Stabilizer system is also featured and minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting.

Wide-angle zoom is designed for APS-C-format Canon EF-S-mount DSLRs and provides a 16-28.8mm equivalent focal length range.

One ultra-low dispersion glass element noticeably reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color fidelity.

One aspherical element limits distortion and spherical aberration in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering.

Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.

An Optical Image Stabilizer helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed stops to better enable working in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.

An STM stepping AF motor realizes smooth, near-silent autofocus that is complemented by a rear focus system, advanced AF algorithms, and a high-speed CPU for fast AF performance. Additionally, full-time manual focus override is also available.

Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Q: 1. Considering a few lenses for a Canon 70D: Tokina 11-16mm DXII f/2.8, Canon 10-18mm f/4.5, and Canon 10-22mm f/3.5. I find myself shooting in low light fairly often which makes me lean toward the Tokina (which I love except it is a little soft at the edges and CA/lens flares can be annoying). If I am packing and using a tripod and often shooting big landscapes, is the f/4.5 of the 10-18 that much of a deal breaker? I hike and its light weight makes it appealing for backpacking too.

A: For me it delivers great IQ with CA no more than normal for this type of lens and if you always keep a tripod around and even you don't the f/4.5 isn't quite a problem because of the IS and light weight, I've made several night shots hand held with sharp results as slow as 1/8th. And it will save you some weight.

Q: 2. Can the auto focus work when mounted on a Sony FS700 - either with or without the MetaBones speed booster?

A: Not having used any Sony camera. I would be guessing. However, after checking the lens again It looks like it would with the appropriate adaptor.

Q: 3. will this lens work for my eos T3i?

A: Canon's ef-s lenses fit all aps-c sensored eos cameras. this is a great lens for landscape photography.

Q: 4. Will this lens work with 5d mark iv?

A: even if you manage to fit it with an extension tube the result will be crappy, have a look at this link: https://youtu.be/7XG5YcG3sxM

Q: 5. Hi, I'm using Canon SL1 with the bundled 18-55 lens. How significantly wider would be this lens?

A: The human stereoscopic angle of view (in focus) approximates 120deg. With one eye only, it approximates 100deg. The Canon 10-18mm angle of view is 107 to 74deg. This may be a dumb comparison but it does give us an idea of how wide this lens is. The important thing is, facing for example the huge Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, that the human eye (even with one eye only) can take the whole frame, the Canon 10-18 does it also, whereas the 18-55 won't do it.

Q: 6. I don't shoot video very often. How does this lens work for still shots?

A: I have found it to be a very good lens for stills as that it what I shoot most often.

Q: 7. Hi can I use this lens on my canon 750d? Thanks

A: Yes. It's a wonderful lens even for a budget wide angle.

Q: 8. Will this lens work with a Canon EOS 10D?

A: I have used mine on a Sony A6000 with the Fotodiox adapter and it works perfectly.

Q: 9. Hi This lens will work with canon 70D?

A: Yes. It works on my 7D and SL1. The lens works very well on both cameras and produced good images. Still waiting for Canon to release lens correction firmware for the cameras.

Q: 10. I have a rebel t1i and would like a nice wide angle lens for landscape and for a trip to Europe. I'm debating whether I should get the 10-18mm or 10-22mm with no IS. The 10-18 is significantly cheaper which is a huge plus but I'm not necessarily set on that. Any suggestions or better recommendations?

A: IS is less important with ultra wide lenses and landscape photography often involves a tripod. Although I like this lens for the price, I cannot honestly say that I am amazed with the results. I say this because some lenses have a nice, contrasty pop to them. The adage you get what you pay for is often true with photo gear. Often times when I went cheap I have regretted it. Again, this seems to be a fine lens with a not so great build quality. I used to have the Sigma equivalent (10-20) with a Nikon camera and the images were a good stretch better, but the lens was twice the price and twice the build quality. No IS though. Bottom line, I think it is a good, all around cheap lens. If you are serious I would try renting different lenses form Lensrentals or Borrowlenses and compare them before buying.

Works like I wanted - I am an advance Hobbyist. And I have a few lenses- but I was looking for a wide lens.
This lens gave me what I wanted.

After buying the wrong lens, EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM, for how I wanted to shoot, close wide-angle in a house. I've gone from using my EOS Rebel sometimes to taking photos of plants in my home all the time. I'm a novice that likes to take better and easily manageable photos than I would get from a cell phone. If you're taking home inside photos you this camera is a must-have.

I purchased this for my Canon 80D and I am very pleased. It's surprisingly lightweight, and so far has exceeded my expectations. I didn't realize how much difference a wider angle lens can make -- this will get a lot of use!

I personally had the opportunity to compare this lens against the Canon L 17-40 f/4. The EF-S was much sharper in the corners with hardly any distortion unlike the L glass that showed soft corners and barrel distortion. both lenses were shot at f 4.5 and 18mm using the same camera D90

Finally found a place that will actually help direct me to the correct lens for my camera that fits, recently I did some online research for a lens to fit my Canon EOS Rebel t8i, one place sent me the wrong lens after my research, then I found B&H and they actually hooked me up, no hassles, answered my questions and led me to the lens that properly fit my camera for what I needed the lens for, thanks guys!

I shoot with a 2000D cropped 24MP. I’ve used this lens for real estate and family photos and the results have been amazing! I do recommend using a tripod. My AF has struggled a bit hand held. But, when fixed using a remote trigger this lens takes stunning shots. I took a group shot last night and zoomed all the way in to check the AF and could actually see fibers in the threads of a lady’s sweater. And at this price-point? Buy the darn thing!
