Whereas the original Wireless GO employed a single channel, version II is a dual-channel system, capable of handling two transmitters at the same time for simple, two-person shoots with low latency (3.5 to 4 ms).
Use the Rode Central companion app (Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android compatible) to unlock powerful features and device customization—onboard transmitter recording, configurable safety track recording in dual mono mode, file playback and export, and more.
Via the app, the transmitter provides an onboard audio recorder offering up to seven hours of uncompressed recording (24-bit / 48 kHz WAV) or 24 hours of compressed recording, perfect for worry-free backup recording or a fast and easy way to capture sound from your subject. Export files in various formats such as MP3 or WAV (16-, 24-, or 32-bit float) with date and time stamp information as well as automatic markers anywhere the transmitter-receiver link was broken.
Since the Wireless GO II can handle two transmitters at once (single transmitter included), it features the ability to switch between stereo or dual-mono output modes. This enables each transmitter, and therefore each subject, to be recorded to a separate channel. Alternatively, signal from two transmitters can be mixed together and recorded identically to left and right channels. Use the app to activate safety track recording (-20 dB on the right channel).
In addition to the traditional 3.5mm TRS analog output, the Wireless GO II receiver has a USB Type-C digital audio output for operation as a 24-bit / 48 kHz audio interface. This can be connected to a computer with the supplied USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable, to the Lightning port of an iOS mobile device via the Rode SC15 cable, or to the USB Type-C port of a laptop, iPad Pro, or Android mobile device with the Rode SC16 cable (SC15 and SC16 cables available separately).
The new Series IV technology extends the line-of-sight operating range of the Wireless GO II to approximately 656' compared to the 230' maximum range of the original Wireless GO. It also offers increased signal strength in crowded wireless environments. Plus, the system is designed to run both transmitters without affecting the range performance.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. In the first version, it was easy to clip audio at the transmitter level. Is this the case here, or has this been adjusted?
A: On the bottom of the receiver it has a 3 stage gain control, adjust it as need it. If you would like more control over the gain please use Rode's app that allows you to adjust the level in 3 dB increments from 0 to -30 dB.
Q: 2. Could I utilize this for FaceBook lives? What other accessory would I need?
A: Connection cable is 3.5mm. so may need an adaptor for a mobile phone or a computer: iphone: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1280795-REG/apple_mmx62am_a_lightning_to_3_5mm_headphone.html?sts=pi&pim=Y Andoid: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1500030-REG/samsung_ee_uc10juwegus_usb_type_c_to_3_5mm.html Rode Wireless Go In the Box Rode Wireless GO II 2-Person Compact Digital Wireless Microphone System/Recorder (2.4 GHz, Black) 2 x Clip-On Transmitters Dual-Channel Wireless Receiver 3 x SC20 USB Type-A to USB Type-C Cables SC5 3.5mm TRS Memory Cable 3 x Furry Windshields Carry Pouch Limited 1-Year Warranty, Extendable to 2 Years upon Registration
Q: 3. I've read that the units will power off after 15 minutes of inactivity. Does this apply to both the Tx and Rx units? I would like to build this into an installation where the Rx always stays on so that mics can be turned on/off as needed. Can I keep the Rx unit powered on while plugged into power even if there are no mics on for hours or days at a time?
A: The Rode Wireless GO II 2-Person Compact Digital Wireless Microphone System/Recorder components will power off automatically after 15 minutes if they are not paired to each other. Even if the receiver is connected to a power source, if not paired, the device will power off.
Q: 4. How does the audio quality compare to traditional wireless lavs like the Sennheisers G3/G4 ?
A: The audio quality is very, very good and compares well with the Sennheiser products in most operating environments, given the cost differential.
Q: 5. I would like to do a stand up interview. I will operate the camcorder myself. Will these microphones do the job?
A: Yes. Once set-up properly between your subject (s) and your camera, this system is easy to get audio to your camera; just test audio levels before beginning actual recording or streaming and set the record levels on the camera conservatively.
Q: 6. How can I mount it to a BMPCC 6K PRO?
A: The receiver will mount in a shoe. Yuu can use this adapter here: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/860269-REG/Revo_sa_cs_14m_Hot_Shoe_to_1_4.html?sts=pi&pim=Y
Q: 7. Looking to use this both on a set and in the field. I would prefer a way to hide the mics when on set, what is the range of quality audio pickup (say if it was placed on the table out of sight) or would it still pick up that quality audio under a jacket or shirt?
A: Any microphone will give you it's best sound when placed closest to the subject you are trying to record avoid having it far from the subject you recording, the best recommendation I can give while using this system is to add a 3.5mm lavalier microphone, lavalier microphones are meant to be used on the subject you recording giving you the best sound and are small making it easy to hide so it's not being seen in the video. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1558252-REG/rode_lavgow_lavalier_go_professional_grade_wearable.html
Q: 8. What happens when the internal recording media on the mics runs out of space? Can I continue using the mics with the receiver once the recording media is full?
A: The Rode Wireless GO II 2-Person Compact Digital Wireless Microphone System/Recorder can record up to 40 hours of compressed audio, or up to 7 hours of uncompressed audio. When the internal storage is full, the unit will continue to record, overwriting the oldest recorded block so you always have the most recent audio available, with no need to delete files or format the storage. To ensure you don't lose any audio you haven't saved, we recommend backing up your audio after each recording session.
Q: 9. What is the voltage that the transmitters are capable of sending to lavalier microphones? Want to know if this can be used with higher-end lav mics like DPA, Sanken, Countryman etc.
A: No tech info available on Go ii, however, the Rode Wireless Go provides 2.8V and I would assume that the ii is the same: Rode Wireless Go: Audio Output Standard 3.5mm TRS microphone input Supplies 2.8V plugin power for compatible microphones
Q: 10. To use it as a handheld mic. How does the audio compare to Shure SM58 or Sennheiser e835?
A: The Rode Wireless Go is not designed for hand-held use and is not comparable to hand-held mics. Rode Transmitter has a built-in mic(Omnidirectional) that is much different than hand held mics such as SM58 or E835, both of which are Cardioid Dynamic mics, designed to be used within 3-4" of lips.
