Exhibiting improved clarity, flatness, and reduced reflectivity, this 3-Stop, 100 x 150mm Firecrest Ultra Hard Edge Long Graduated ND Filter from Formatt-Hitech is ideal for photographing landscapes or other subjects with a defined horizon and which require an extra level of control over your exposure.

Designed with inspiration from the Firecrest Cine filters, these filters receive an additional lapping and polishing process during production to ensure lower reflectivity and improved clarity and sharpness. This filter has also been optimized for use with digital sensors and promotes nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film stock, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Applied to the outside of the Schott Superwite glass construction is a 15-layer Firecrest multicoating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order to maintain truer colors and contrast. The multicoating is also scratch resistant and hydrophobic to benefit the overall durability of the filter. Measuring at 100 x 150mm and 2mm thick, this filter is compatible with the Formatt-Hitech 100mm Filter Holder.

The Ultra Firecrest series of filters exhibit greater clarity and have lower reflectivity than the original Firecrest filters. Borrowing from the range of Firecrest Cine filters, the Ultra series filters undergo a secondary lapping and polishing process after the initial polishing and bonding stage. This additional step helps to ensure flatness and consistency for improved image quality.

The 0.9 density provides a 3-stop reduction in light in selective areas.

This filter attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the outside of the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multicoating is water and scratch resistant for greater overall durability.

Schott Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity, and its 2mm-thick design is compatible with the Formatt-Hitech 100mm Filter Holder.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does this product compare to the Lee SW150?

A: Sensei Pro 150 holder works great on my Nikon af-s 14-24 lens. It would work pretty much the same, both holder are rotating. I do not have the LEE SW150 holder but as reading people's review, it should come with a light shield so it can work properly. I did not feel any difficulty when insert or removing filters from my Sensei Pro holder.

Q: 2. what size FN battery does this case fit?

A: They will fit up to the middle sized NP-F770 style batteries. It is not large enough to handle NP-F970 size batteries.

Q: 3. Will this fit the newer Atomos Ninja V+?

A: Yes, form factor has remained the same and will fit the Ninja V

Q: 4. Can I use this as a baseplate for my Sony 70 - 200 F4 Macro G OSS II, for the included lens collar?

A: Yes, the foot on the Sony FE 70-200mm f/4 Macro G OSS II Lens has a 1/4-20 thread and the anti-twist bars on the Desmond DPL-100 Long Lens Quick Release Plate (100mm) will prevent the lens from shifting.

Q: 5. The specs state the length as 150mm, what is the width and height?

A: The width would be 60mm, however a height measurement is not published.

Q: 6. I just buy a Sensei Pro 150mm Aluminum Filter Holder for Nikon AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8 Lens and a 77 adapter ring kit.Now can I buy a 82 adapter ring?

A: This filter holder is dedicated to just the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 lens--it does not accept an 82mm adapter ring.

Q: 7. I have this filter to use with my 14-24mm and consistently get lens flare circles on long exposures. I have the view finder covered, so light is not leaking in that way. It occurs in pretty much all light conditions other than cloudy dusk (i.e. bright light from any source no matter if the source is in the front, rear or side of the camera). I have the filter in the closest slot to the lens, as instructed. Does anyone else have this issue and how do you prevent it?

A: You could try using the Flex Lens Shade to prevent flare.

Q: 8. Will the fotodiox 145mm polarizer filter fit on the sensel. 150mm holder ..?

A: I am not sure

Q: 9. Does it fit the Ninja Atomos with a Smallrig cage?

A: It does not.

Q: 10. What sunhoods can fit in this case? For the overpriced Atomos-brand one, where does the sunhood's plastic frame clip get stored?

A: The sunhood is stored in the front of the HPRC NJAV-2300-01 Hard Case for Atomos Ninja V, as shown in the third image. You can store most foldable sun hoods in the sun hood slot. Tha hard plastic part of the Atomos Sunhood for Ninja V, Shinobi, and Shinobi SDI (Black) could be stored in the cables/misc. area.
