Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is wrong with the lens in the 1st place for it to require refurbishing? Did someone own it prior and had performance problems with the lens?

A: The only reason a lens or whatever piece of equipment is refurbished is because something was wrong with the lens in the first place. Could be the focus motor or any other part inside the lens. If the lens was refurbished by Nikon USA, I wouldnt worry about the lens. It was renewed to factory condition and certainly looks like new. If the price difference between the refurbish and a brand new one is significant for you, go for it, buy it. Now if you are not sure, just buy a brand new one. Its just money!

Q: 2. What is the Nikon model # for the hood that fits this lens?

A: Nikon HB-53

Q: 3. How does the 24-120 fare as an only travel lens for hand-held, on-the-move shots? Thanks.

A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens is a great choice for a one lens system for traveling. The focal range is quite extensive while the size of the lens is relatively small. The fact that it has a constant aperture of f/4 is also a positive factor in this decision. Excellent lens!

Q: 4. Does this lens come with a hood?

A: Yes, this lens come with a hood.

Q: 5. Can I put this on the Sony FS5? If I need an adapter, what do I look for?

A: I put it on a FS7 this week with a Speedbooster Ultra. The speedbooster allows you to control the aperture, but I do not think that the VR works with it. So, I am assuming it would be a great lens on the FS5.

Q: 6. What is the minimum focusing distance at 120mm? I was wondering if this would be used for shooting wedding rings etc.

A: 18 inches. Highly recommend camera on a tripod, aperture mode, manual focus at F4 then change to highest F stop your lighting permits (without moving the camera), minimum ISO setting and use timed shutter release. Also, to capture correct ring colors make sure your white balance set to actual light conditions.

Q: 7. Will this lens auto focus on my D330?

A: YES, D3300 will auto focus...your google also listed another site with the name Lenshero . com....read the review there.

Q: 8. Warranty

A: The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR Lens includes a Nikon USA one year warranty.

Q: 9. whether this lens is suitable for landscape purposes with Nikon Dx ?

A: I've used this lens on both my D7000 (DX) and D610/750 (FX) cameras for landscapes and city scapes with great success. Your true focal distance at the widest is 36mm with a DX camera, but for landscapes that isn't really a huge limitation vs the 21mm Zeiss or even 14-24mm Nikkor. Assuming you are shooting vast wide open landscapes this is an excellent lens to grow into as you explore FX down the road and gains some reach with your current DX setup.

Q: 10. I shoot full frame and have the 24-70 2.8 but was wondering if this was a good replacement lens for my backpacking trips where I don't need that many stops? I understand it's lighter and smaller (which is the obvious gain I'm looking for), but can I still get print quality photos with this? I always have my 14-24 2.8 in my pack but it would sure be nice to cut a little weight if I can substitute my 24-70 2.8 with this thing. And not to mention get way more focal length!

A: I have the 24-120 f/4 and the 70-200 f/2.8. I do not have the f/2.8 for the 14-24 or the 24-70. I use my 24-120 for those times when I need a wide angle. If I can get away with 70 mm or longer, I ALWAYS bear the weight and use my 70-200 f/2.8. I just like the images it produces more than those I get from my 24-120 f/4. If you were making the move from a kit lens to the 14-120, I think you would be happy. Being used to the amazing quality of the images from the 2.8 series, I doubt that you would ever be satisfied with the 24-120, f/4. If I had the 24-70 f/2.8, I think that I would sell my 24-120. It's not that you cannot make print quality images with it. You can. But they won't be as wonderful as the images that you are used to getting. I'm a woman, almost 61-years old. I usually cut my weight by choosing to focus on only one type of image at each shoot. It forces me to consider the type of images I want to capture in advance, and choose the lens that will most likely support that day's shooting. It also helps to protect my sensor from unwanted dust. Every now and then, I wish that I had one of my other lenses, but it usually works very well.
