The black Sennheiser MEB 114 is a cardioid boundary microphone designed to provide accurate and intelligible speech reproduction for meetings, conferences, and presentations. It can be placed temporarily on a table or permanently mounted if desired.

Its cardioid polar pattern rejects sound from behind the capsule, giving a more focused pickup zone. Its wide frequency range of 40 Hz to 20 kHz and high maximum SPL of 140 dB deliver clear audio free of distortion. The MEB 114 terminates to a mini-XLR jack. A 9.8' mini-XLR to XLR 3-pin cable is included for connection to a mixer or microphone preamp. The mic operates on 24 to 48V phantom power and requires no batteries.

Q: 1. does this mic have an on/off switch?

A: No.

Q: 2. Does this need a power module or phantom power? Tried hooking an older but similar AT boundary mic to a TASCAM DR-40 using the COXMMXF25 cable and would not work with or without phantom power on. Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

A: Yes it will need phantom power. The spec. sheet that came with the mic should tell you the voltage. If your mixer can't do phantom power there are products out there that will hook up to the mic then into the mixer that will do the job. Good luck.

Q: 3. is connector swivel ?

A: The connector is a 3 pin XLR and it does not swivel.

Q: 4. Since this has a built-in preamp, would you connect it to line input? Also, wouldn't it need phantom power since it's a condenser mic?

A: The integrated pre-amp feature is referring to the fact that the XLR connection is built into the microphone. This has a mic level output that does require 48v phantom power.

Q: 5. I believe the capsule is exchangeable on this model. Where can I find them?

A: According to the manufacturer website, capsules are non interchangeable for this model microphone.

Q: 6. Can you recommend a preamp/power supply for this mic? I don't need a mixer as I plan to feed the mic into an ATEM mini with an adapter

A: You can use the Rolls MP13 Mini-Mic Preamp (B&H # ROMP13) to power the Audio-Technica U851Rb Cardioid Condenser Boundary Microphone, then use an XLR female to 3.5mm TRS male cable like the Kopul XRSM 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm RA Stereo Mini-Plug Cable - 3' (B&H # KOXRSM03B) to connect the output from the MP13 to the 3.5mm TRS input on the Blackmagic Design ATEM Mini HDMI Switcher.

Q: 7. Can this be paired with itself for stereo input to say, Zoom H6 recorder, for dSLR TRS minijack input? Need to record high end performances without post-processing.

A: This is a mono microphone that requires phantom power. It will not work directly with a miniplug without a power supply.

A: Although the Sennheiser SpeechLine Digital Wireless SL Rack Receiver DW-4-US is compatible with other Sennheiser Speechline transmitter modules such as the Sennheiser SpeechLine Digital Wireless SL Bodypack or the Sennheiser SpeechLine Digital Wireless SL Handheld Transmitter, only one transmitter can be paired with the receiver at a time.

Q: 9. Is anyone using 2 of these simultaneously with the tascam dr-40 and if so, does the phantom power from the tascam do ok? How long can you record with a new set of batteries? Thanks

A: I do not own a Tascam dr-40, but we used 2 of these with phantom power from a Canon XA-10 and they worked well. It may be a decent alternative to a bunch of lav mics and a mixing board.

A: This mic is not available in a wireless version.

I use this as a table mic for Q&A.....1 per table of 3 attendees. It has a good pickup pattern and a great low profile. 5

Used three of these for a town meeting in a room with terrible acoustics. They worked great. One of the mics sounded a little bit metalic but I think that had to do with the soundboard we were using. In a small conference room, one mic covers the entire room. The only thing I wish they had was a mute toggle button but for the price they are very good for speech applications. 5

Hard to argue against the value of this one. I hooked it up to a mini mixer so I could get the room while a presenter spoke through a wireless lapel microphone. The room comes through loud and clear -- much better than had we just recorded through a Polycom. Excellent fidelity, and it gets a nice wide field. Put it at one end of the conference table and you'll capture the room. In our case we had about a dozen people and they all came in. 5
