DANDY from Ujam is like the ideal veteran studio bassist: Impeccably well-dressed, polite, and utterly lethal on the bass guitar. Designed to provide the ultrasmooth bass lines that you expect from a seasoned pro, never hogging the spotlight or taking up too much space in the mix, DANDY can turn any producer into a pro bassist, regardless of bass or keyboard playing ability, thanks to two playing modes that either take the initiative with realistic, automatic performances, or allow you let loose manually.

DANDY is packed with 30 styles, 990 phrases, and 100 presets, so your creativity never ceases. You also get 15 finisher multi-FX chains, drive control, 4 character presets, 4 amp presets, and several master FX for final tweaks of your sound. Finally, MIDI drag-and-drop functions and the usual intuitive Ujam UI with resizing round out the features. This plug-in is available in VST2, AU2, and AAX plug-in formats for Windows and macOS computers.

DANDY uses its understated charm to make you sound and feel amazing. Ujam's meticulously sampled bass guitar with flat-wound strings has a classy, warm and restrained vintage sound that is markedly different than the more modern and in-your-face ROYAL 2 and ROWDY 2 virtual bassists. However, when paired with the included multi-effects, DANDY effortlessly delivers fantastic tones that sound right at home in both modern and vintage productions.

DANDY sounds fantastic on any production that needs electric bass, but it's particularly great on soul, pop, blues, and rock tracks. Ujam's custom-made DSP algorithms push the raw sound of the bass in many directions from soft, round tones (perfect for vibey old school soul and blues tracks) all the way to bright modern pop and rock. Try blending DANDY with your synth-bass lines to give them a little more life and sophistication.

DANDY is perfect for all producers of all skill levels. The fail-proof controls ensure that beginners get great-sounding results that don’t sound like canned repetitive loops.

Skilled keyboard players can easily bypass the virtual musician features and play the bass parts exactly as they like. Everyone gets great bass in their productions.

  • Select common phrases, style phrases, velocity (forceful to dampen), and playing range
  • Choose variable bridge or neck playing style, drive amount, and octaver amount
  • Finisher FX, EQ, and compressor adjustment
  • Four character presets: Warm, Round, Natural, and Brilliant
  • Easy Drop D switch
  • Four Amp presets: Raw, Vintage, Cream, and Direct (DI)

Player Mode features some brilliant technology Ujam has pioneered to bring ultrarealistic bass performances into your music, even if you don’t play the bass or keyboards. There are 990 masterfully played phrases in 30 different musical styles that can be easily and seamlessly strung together to create the perfect performance for your song. These aren’t just boring MIDI loops.

If you prefer to record your own phrases (or even bass solos), Instrument Mode gives you complete access to all articulations. This means you can use your MIDI controller to play exactly what you want with maximum creative expression (including adding dead notes, full stops, and even slides.)

The versatility of this instrument is further expanded with tons of powerful easy-to-use sound shaping options. Quickly choose from a variety of different amps and effects before dialing in the exact right character for your song. Then tweak the EQ and dynamics to really sweeten your sound and bring your production to the next level.

With the new Virtual Bassist 2.1 update, Ujam will provide Studio One users running on version 4.6.2 or later with an exclusive PreSonus chord and key track feature. Descriptions of styles and phrases are displayed on the piano roll to help you find the right styles and phrases faster and easier for your track. The new chord track feature in Studio One automatically follows the chords and automatically changes the MIDI notes for you.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work on JVC cameras (particularly the GY-HM600)?

A: If you look down in the reviews of this product (6-10-13), someone mentions precisely that camera and says it works. I'm using it on a Canon XF300 and it's marvelous. Make sure you have a Manfrotto video head to attach it to...

Q: 2. Can FlexTT5 be triggered by the new Nikon SB 5000 used as a master by radio frequency?

A: No, it may not. The radio trigger in the Nikon SB-5000 Speedlight Flash requires a compatible Nikon DSLR camera using the Nikon WR-A10 Wireless Remote Adapter and Nikon WR-R10 Wireless Remote Controller. It is not compatible with third party remote's radio signals, such as the PocketWizard FlexTT5 Transceiver Radio Slave. To use the PocketWizard FlexTT5 with the Nikon SB-5000 Speedlight Flash, you would need a FlexTT5/MiniTT1 remote on the camera's hot shoe to communicate with the FlexTT5 connected to the Nikon SB-5000 (that is, if the SB-5000 is compatible with the FlexTT5. As this is a new flash, it does not yet seem that PocketWizard has tested the flash and listed it as compatible for use with the SB-5000). In either case, if you wish to use PocketWizard remotes, you would need a PocketWizard remote connected to each off-camera flash to be triggered wirelessly, and it would be triggered by a PocketWizard remote on the camera.

Q: 3. Can this system (MiniTT1/FlexxTT5) be used with the new Nikon D500 and an SB800?

A: Works with the new SB800.. you needs to have the software on computer and get new beta firmware. Than it works great.

Q: 4. Will this work on a Panasonic AG-CX10?

A: Yes, the Manfrotto RC Pan Bar will work with LANC controllable cameras, such as the Panasonic AG-CX10.

Q: 5. Does this work with the BMD Studio Camera 4K along with the Olympus M.Zuiko Pro Lens?

A: This LANC controller is compatible with the BMD Studio Camera. However the lens you mentioned does not have a power zoom to be controlled by zoom rocker.

Q: 6. Can the TT5 be used in conjunction with the Nikon Creative Lighting System? Such as using the CLS to trigger a key and fill light but then have the PW trigger a flash for a kicker that is out of site from the IR of the CLS commander.

A: Being that the TT5 operates via radio frequency, it would not work with the Nikon CLS system which uses line of sight. What you could do is use the Pocket Wizard Mini TT1 Transmitter, B&H # WIMTT1N on your camera and have a TT5 transceiver on each flash set off camera. To control the other flashes off camera, you can either use a Pocket Wizard AC3 Zone Controller, B&H # WIAC3N on top of the Mini TT1 or you can place another Nikon speedlight on there which has a master function. Please see the images below for reference:

Q: 7. Is this compatible with a Nikon D850 and a Nikon Z7?

A: It works with the D850 - sort of. Most functions work but rear curtain sync does not. I have informed PW of this but they have not solved the issue in over a year. These units can be very finicky and frustrating. If I were to do it over, I would seriously look at some of the newer competitors on the scene - they seem to work with less issues and are less $$$ to boot. Just my 2 cents...

Q: 8. What on this device controls the zoom? Is it the knob near the top or does the handle turn like a motorcycle throttle? It seems awkward to me to use the knob at the top while panning or titling, but the handle turn would work well.

A: If you are referring to the tiny knob at the top of the control panel, that is for adjusting the speed of whatever you are controlling. The switch on the right side switches from Zoom to focus control. The butterfly wheel at the back by the handle controls the zoom/focus. The handle does not spin!

Q: 9. Is this transmitter compatible with the transmitters that come with the Profoto D1 system?

A: no you need to use profoto transmitter with their system

Q: 10. I have the Canon Mark 5DIII and the Canon 430 EX II flash. If I buy one Flex TT5 will I be able to fire the flash off camera? Would one work if later I wanted to fire two flashes, one on camera (attached to the Flex) and one off camera?I am wondering if I need any other products to make off camera flash work with the Flex TT5.Thank you! Michelle

A: In order to work with the PocketWizard system you'll need at least two units, one on your camera and one on your off camera flash. The unit connected to your flash off camera will have to be the Flex TT5, the unit on your camera could either be another Flex TT5 or the smaller Mini TT1 (which is a transmitter only). You can always add more flashes into this system later on.
