Analog

  • Tape: Dial in some grainy tape-style saturation and degradation, particularly effective on the low-end, perfect for that organic lo-fi sound.
  • Tube: The soft-clipping warmth and depth of the vacuum valve sound, rich in harmonics and highly responsive to your input.
  • Transistor: The biting response of classic echo box preamps, known for its presence and edgy character, great on guitars.
  • Transformer: A simulation of the nuanced distortion created by magnetic hysteresis, with two options: nickel, for subtle processing, and iron, for more low-mid emphasis.
  • Germanium: The screaming tone made famous by Germanium diode amps, distortion pedals, and fuzz boxes, bright and red-hot.
  • Force: Based on classic studio outboard gear, with 4 modes of operation ranging from analog saturation to roaring overdrive, great for your mix bus.

Digital

  • Rectifier: Imitating the unique harmonic overtones and zapped character achieved by reshaping a waveform’s negative phase.
  • Bitcrusher: Edgy harmonics and glassy digital noise achieved by reducing the sample and bit rate of a sound, making anything sound harsh and robotic.
  • Bit Inverter: Introduce crisp digital distortion and unexpected artifacts by modulating a signal’s bit content in real time.
  • Wavefolder: By distorting the shape of your signal’s waveform, this mode delivers unique overtones and harmonic alterations beyond recognition with 7 shapes.
  • Waveshaper: An incredibly flexible mode with 11 subtypes of operation, from shattered-signal fuzz to surprisingly resonant asymmetrical drive.

This is no ordinary on/off, dry/wet, analog/digital distortion. Pair up any of the 11 distortion types from emulated tube heat to icy digital bitcrush, customize your routing, sprinkle in some modulation, and forge sonic carnage that's totally your own.

Create resonant metallic melodies, introduce artificial harmonic reflections, trigger wildly destructive feedback loops; go beyond conventional distortion with 6 custom modulation slots, 16-step sequencing, comb filtering, and much more.

Enrich, saturate, pulverize, or transform any sound beyond recognition. Whether you're looking for warm vocal enhancement, monstrous kick drum impacts, speaker-rattling bass fuzz, or denser-than-black-hole wavefolding, Dist COLDFIRE packs every punch you need.

Simple enough to create exciting dual distortion effects in just a few easy clicks, but flexible enough to become totally immersed in destructive sound design, Dist COLDFIRE strikes the balance between quickfire plug-in and deep processing powerhouse.

  • In the sphere of contemporary music, it can mean the pumping analog imperfections of artists like Caribou and Floating Points; the hybrid industrial soundscapes of acts like Nine Inch Nails and Skinny Puppy; the seismic guitar sounds of everyone from Eric Gales to Bring Me The Horizon; the gritty, intimate production of today’s songwriting pioneers like Billie Eilish and Phoebe Bridgers.
  • Distortion says, don't settle for a sound. Engage Dist COLDFIRE and alter, experiment, twist, smash, and savor both the means and the end.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this convert unbalanced TRS to balanced XLR?

A: TS connection mics are usually only compatible with the mic transmitters or mic inputs that they are made for specific compatibility with.

Q: 2. I currently have 430EXll Cannon Speedlight, is the Turbo 3 Rechargeable Battery by Quantum campatable with this?

A: Unfortunately, the Canon 430EX II is not compatible with the Quantum Turbo line of batteries. It is compatible with the QB1+ battery (B&H # QUQB1P), though. You would just need the MB5 (B&H # QUMB5). Otherwise, to use the Turbo batteries, you would need to upgrade flashes to the 580EX II or 600EX-RT.

Q: 3. Is the offset enough to accommodate a Sennheiser plug in transmitter?

A: Yes, this should accommodate a Sennheiser SKP style transmitter.

Q: 4. can the F10 fresnel be used with the ES 15?

A: The Aputure Electro Storm CS15 RGB LED Monolight (US Plug) should be used with Aputure Motorized F14 Fresnel for Electro Storm CS15 and XT26 https://bhpho.to/3TYXfQF.

Q: 5. the laptop is an Australian version my gf outlet is 220v 60HZ i know that this adapter will let her plug the adapter power card plug in to the wall but will the laptop still charge back up with only 220v as Australia has 230v 50 Hz?

A: This is only a plug adapter. It does not change your voltage. Your laptop is designed for 220V, but electricity is not precises. Both the laptop, and your electricity can easily fluctuate between 210 and 240V. It is fine. Also, Australian voltage is 230 V 50 Hz.

Q: 6. Can this handle line level input? (eg. Recording out of a mixing console)

A: Yes

Q: 7. Where does the light come out? How does one keep it out of The eyes? This does not look safe.

A: The light would be downward facing, the only way one would keep this out of eyes is by aiming it effectively at the areas you would like to apply it towards.

Q: 8. Could this split the stereo from Saramonic uwmic into two separate mono channels, then into my Zoom H6?

A: This Sescom Y cable #SES-IPSUMTS12IN will not work for the desired application because the wiring on the 1/8 TRRS is designed for a smartphone mic input and the 1/4 TS leads would force you to plug into the Zoom's line inputs bypassing the mic preamps. Theoretically, you could achieve separation of the two channels via the one stereo output if, and only if the Saramonic provides a true stereo output with each transmitter assigned to either the tip and the ring respectively. A special cable would have to be made featuring a locking TRS 1/8 male connector on one end, and two XLR male leads on the other.

Q: 9. Any chance that one day we will get one like this designed for lav mics?

A: Likely you can use it for a lavaliere mic if the mic has phantom power and uses a xlr connection. I don't see why it would not work with that combination. I use mine attached to a Sennheiser ME 66/K6P microphone on a boom pole for on-the-street interviews in noisy environments and so far it has worked perfectly. The only hassle is syncing the audio with the video in post but i just have the interview subjects clap their hands once before the start of the interview and that makes syncing much easier and faster. You just have to remember to press the record button twice. I forgot that a few times and missed recording the interview. I also use this set up on a podium when a using a wireless microphone or running cables isn't practical. Worked perfectly each time.

Q: 10. I am replacing a bulb. The specs are correct for this one here, but when I look at the top of the filament, it is slightly different in the shape and thickness of the wire. The bulb I am replacing, and the one here, #5505, do not look EXACTLY alike. Any comments, please? Thank you!!

A: These two bulbs for use in the USA, Chimera Speed Ring with Mogul/Household Socket - USA Plug, for Video Pro & Lantern Lightbanks B&H # CHSRML MFR # 9830 and Chimera Mogul Base Lamp - 500 Watts/120 Volts - for Lantern B&H # CHLM500L MFR # 5505 are correct for the fixture you picked. If you are in not in 120 volt environment you will need a different bulb.
