The Synclavier V from Arturia Is a software recreation of what was arguably the holy grail of digital synthesizers during the late '70s and early '80s. The original New England Digital's Synclavier delivered a unique combination of additive synthesis, sampling, and frequency modulation that only a few could afford, but it did show what was possible using the then-new computer technologies. Known for its distinctive digital character ranging from edgy, to eardrum-ripping brash, to intergalactic, the original was especially ideal for extended pads and slow cinematic and ambient soundscapes. This software can run in as a standalone app or as a plug-in within your DAW, on Mac and Windows computers, as an AAX Native, AU, VST2, VST3, or NKS plug-in.

A technological marvel and status symbol, the Synclavier dwarfed literally every other synthesizer of the 1980s in both power and price. Its unique approach to sound design is just as relevant today as it was all those decades ago.

The go-to inspiration station for Sting, Frank Zappa, Kate Bush, Michael Jackson, Chick Corea, and many others began life as an FM synth. It evolved into the first tapeless music production system long before DAWs, adding features like high-res sampling and resynthesis. Nothing got close to this Rolls-Royce of synthesizers, and with maxed-out systems fetching mid six figures, almost no one got close either. Cocreated with original inventor Cameron Jones, Synclavier V changes all that.

  • A single preset can have up to 12 partials. Each is a complete additive and FM synthesis chain.
  • Every partial has its own volume and harmonic envelope. Timbres can weave around and through each other for ear-engaging sounds.
  • Control every aspect of each partial in the partial settings section, including FM parameters and time-slice behavior. There is no more precise way to build sounds from the ground up.
  • Use the Timbre Section to control settings that affect all Partials in common, such as pan, transpose, and overall envelope offsets.
  • Synclavier V provides very sophisticated control over a standalone vibrato and your sound’s movement in the stereo picture.
  • Bring your patches to life with Arturia's signature multipattern tempo-syncable arpeggiator and polyphonic portamento.

  • Software synthesizer playable through a MIDI keyboard
  • 450 presets sounds
  • Original programmer + original code equals the original Synclavier synthesis engine
  • Powerful FM (Frequency Modulation) synthesis
  • Full additive synthesis—Time Slice engine for dynamic additive synthesis and additive waves for both carrier and modulator waveforms
  • Expanded number of partials to twelve from the original four
  • Variable bit depths (original was only 8-bit)
  • High-quality output effects
  • Algorithmic reverb
  • Tempo-syncable arpeggiator and polyphonic portamento
  • Fifty presets from the original Synclavier library
  • Support for Native Instruments NKS format
  • Resizable GUI

Q: 1. Hello does this work with the quantum QT flash?

A: It would depend on the specific model Quantum Instruments flash you own as to how you would connect your flash to the Quantum Instruments Turbo SC Battery Pack. If you own one of the Quantum Instruments Qflash TRIO flashes (which have a removable power cable), if you no longer have the original power cable, you may purchase and connect the Quantum Instruments CQ2 Power Cable for Turbo Series Battery Packs & Qflash Trio Flash Units, B&H # QUCQ2, to the power socket on your flash, and connect the other end to the power socket on the Turbo SC Battery Pack. If you are referring to the Quantum Qflash T5Dr, as it has a built-in power cable, you would connect the T5Dr's power cable to the power socket on the Turbo SC Battery Pack.

Q: 2. Is it a CZ2 cable or a CZ cable.
