Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a Sigma Macro 150mm and a Sigma Macro 400mm. Both lenses have tripod mounts. Will they work with this or should I get something cheaper? Also will this work when only camera is mounted on it with a smaller lens (no tripod mount)?

A: I use my Wimberley Gimbal with a Sigma 150-500 mm. I use the the quick release plate for the gimbal with my lenses or my camera (Canon 5 D II). In my opinion if you want the best this is it.

Q: 2. I have the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base and a Nikon D850. I use the combo with heavy telephoto lenses and I love it. What do I need to add to this combo so I can use the camera with lenses without a lens collar and with the ability to easily shoot both horizontal and vertical? Thanks!

A: You can use the Wimberley M8 module (https://bhpho.to/3ybZOm4) plus an L-bracket (like this one: https://bhpho.to/2USHArv), which are the primary tools for vertical/horizontal switching on arca-swiss style clamps. The M8 (or other nodal-rail type device) is necessary to offset the position of the camera due to the parallel orientation of the clamp to the camera-body + L-bracket combo.

Q: 3. I have the canon 100-400 is ii lens. The recommendation is the p-10 plate. If i use the 1.4 extender do i still use the p-10 plate or the p-20?

A: Skip that plate altogether, get rid of the factory tripod foot & replace it with a Kirk LP-61. It's a much more stable set up, slides right in to the WH-200. A great gimbal head like the Whimberly is only as good as the lens attachment point. Get the Kirk, skip the p-10 plate unless you haver other lenses that you intend to shoot from your tripod. The foot is long enough to find the correct balance point (which changes as you soon in & out) no problem, will work if you go with the 2X extender also (but your autofocus won't).

Q: 4. What is the width at the base when opened? Are there multiple detent positions for the legs?

A: Yes it has Multi-angle leg spread adjustment for stability. They do not specify the width of the base.

Q: 5. I have a bogen 3033 tripod with a 3047 head on it will the Wimberly tripod head fit on this tripod and which quick release plate do I need? thanks

A: The Wimberly tripod head fits on a standard tripod legs which I think your bogey 3033 is. I have a quick release plate that is a bit longer than the base of the tripod collar on my Pentax 560 lens. This tripod head is amazing to use to photograph wildlife with a long lens, easy to position and move to get the shot you want wile keeping the lens steady.

Q: 6. Hi, which plate should I use with the Canon 200-400 F4 w/ built in 1.4 TC? Many thanks.

A: This plate from Kirk would be the best fit for the 200-400 lens. Please see the following link:http://bhpho.to/1j2HT9o

Q: 7. is Wimberly P20 quick release Plate work i nikon d800?

A: The Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal works best to support very long lenses to track birds, animals and sports. You would need a corresponding lens plate to attach to the bottom of the foot on the lens. You might check out Wimberleys website to check and see what lens plate they recommend for your particular lens.

Q: 8. is WH-200 compatible with Induro Tripod CLT 303, 3/8"-16 Screw?

A: Yes, the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II, B&H # WITHQRQ, would be compatible for use with the Induro CLT303 Classic Series 3 Stealth Carbon Fiber Tripod.

Q: 9. I currently have a promaster GH25. I am thinking of buying this gimbal. My reason being that I can only lack the pro insert tied positions, but can never find tune it. Meaning that it will lock at 15° 30° but nothing in between. My question is, can I lock this Gimble head in any degree of tilt that I desire thank you

A: Yes, you can lock the tilt on the Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base.

Q: 10. the magmod will work with the godox v1-f?

A: Yes, the MagMod Wedding & Event Flash Accessory Starter Kit Gen 2 will work with the Godox V1 Flash. The MagMod MagGrip 2 fits that flash head.

Needing a gimbal head for my recent purchase of a 600 f4 lens, I researched all of the industry leaders. Word of mouth and great reviews led me to purchase the Wimberley WH-200.
When it arrived, I could tell the great workmanship that went into the product. The instructions for installation and setup were clear and easy to follow and my new lens balanced perfectly within 5 minutes.
Trying the head on some birds-in-flight made me ask why I hadn't invested in this sooner. So much easier to track birds. The movements of the head are smooth and I can't ask for better results.
The WH-200 lives up to all of the great ratings and reviews.

Haven't used it yet but can't wait to get a new tripod. The workmanship on this Gimbal is phenomenal. It is so strong and smooth. More than what I expected.

I use this with a prime 600 and love it. I was able to quickly adjust to tracking Bald Eagles and Osprey. It's almost a necessity for large lenses

I originally got the Benro GH2, which seems like a knockoff version of this. I ended up returning it because it felt like it was sticking a little when I would rotate it horizontally. This one costs twice as much but it does feel like better quality. Unfortunately this one also doesn't include an adapter plate so I had to spend another $90 to get an ARCA style foot for the Sony 200-600mm lens. If you don't want to spend all that money to get a little smoother movement, the Benro GH2 is probably fine.

There are some lower cost products out there, but this is well worth the extra bucks. It is a first-rate piece of gear for your kit.

This Wimberley head is very well made, solid and smooth. Perhaps a bit pricey but you certainly get what you pay for! What a bonus for bird and wildlife photography!

It's really simple- if you shoot anything that requires a rapid switch in position while remaining rock solid stable, you need this for your kit. As others have said, you can move a big heavy set up on this thing with a single finger.

The movement screws are incredibly responsive and can be locked down tight for total stationary positioning, adjusted slightly to the perfect resistance level where you can move the angles but the camera stays where you put it, or wide open so the camera feels like it's in zero gravity. When fully "loose" when you let go and have it balanced properly (which is super easy to do), it will just return to level on its own.

It's been a fundamental improvement to my photography and really just a tremendous product. It's expensive, sure, but such is the way with great equipment.

This gimbal is a quality gimbal that will last longer than all my other equipment. I find it easy to use so far but have not used it extensively yet. It handles smoothly and is well worth the expense the quality in this gimbal I am sure it will handle any equipment on the market today.
