Improve the signal integrity and efficiency of your pedalboard with Buffer+ from Empress Effects, an all-analog I/O interface pedal that helps eliminate signal loss from long cable runs or unbuffered bypassing. Loaded with useful functions like an input pad, 30 dB clean boost, and 2-way noise filter, Buffer+ maintains perfect tone.

I/O features include a dedicated tuner output with individual mute function and a serial FX loop. With the input-load adjustment, you can set your input impedance from 10 kilohms to 1 megohm depending on your pickup configuration. Constructed from die-cast aluminum, this rugged pedal can survive years of touring while maintaining a compact form factor that keeps your precious pedalboard real estate available.

With a three-way switch, you can pad or boost your input by 3 dB. This feature is great for matching outputs of different guitars, reducing overly hot active pickup signals, or boosting the signal going to your FX for an improved signal-to-noise ratio.

Similar to the technology of Dolby's noise filters, Buffer+ sports a selectable noise filter with two different modes (little or lots) to remove unwanted noise from your FX chain. If you have gain or modulation pedals that tend to add excessive noise and feedback that you find undesirable or difficult to control, these noise filters will help reign them in.

The separate tuner output is not only useful for keeping your tuner out of your FX signal chain, it can also be used as a secondary output for numerous applications. Use this second jack for stereo output, DI recording, or as a key signal for a noise gate or side-chain compressor. The tuner output also has a dedicated mute function, separate from the pedal's buffer.

The main goal of a buffer is to prevent signal loss, but some high-frequency roll-off from a long cable run may sound pleasing. When this side-mounted knob is fully clockwise, the full frequency range of your guitar signal passes through.

Turn the knob counterclockwise to start loading down your guitar, changing the response of your pickups, and rolling off just the right amount of high frequencies.

The Buffer+ can also act as 1-in / 3-out splitter. The input signal is normally routed to the loop out and tuner out.

When nothing is connected to the Loop In jack, the input signal will also be routed to the Amp Out jack. This could be used to run multiple amps, or to record a separate dry signal to use for reamping when tracking.

Q: 1. 110 volt or 100 to 240?

A: 110

Q: 2. Can you use with a Sony FS100 with XLR input and will track be stereo when selected? Which mini to XLR adaptor?

A: The SMX-30 will put out the identical signal on the tip and ring when it's in mono mode so that you can feed the same signal to left and right inputs of your camcorder. I don't know the Sony FS100, but I'll assume it has a pair of female XLR sockets for left and right rather than a stereo 3.5mm socket. I have a Canon camcorder with XLR inputs, and what I use is a cable made by Hosa with a 3.5mm mini plug on one end and a pair of male XLR connectors on the other end. I can't find the model number on the Hosa site, but there other manufacturers of such cables. Search B&H or other vendor web sites for such cables. Since the SMX-30 also has a stereo mini plug, you'll also need to buy an adapter to connect two male mini plugs together (unless you can find a cable with the female mini stereo socket and pair of male XLR connectors).

Q: 3. Is the digital I/O 24bit? Any details about the DAC on the Notebook series?

A: USB:Sample rate 44.1kHz, 48kHzFrequency response20Hz 20kHz +/-1.5dB

Q: 4. Hosa Technology GPP290 Monaural Male 1/4" Phone to Stereo Female 1/4" Phone Adapter Can the above adapter be used to insert headphones into the adapter re the Zedi 10 FX's "aux out" quarter inch jack? Would this, notwithstanding the need for a converter, to convert line level signal to headphones level signal, work? If headphones are inserted into the aux out jack directly, the result is audio in the left ear only.

A: First, let's make clear that headphone signal is line level and headphone outputs typically use a stereo connector. The aux output on the Allen & Heath ZEDi-10FX is sending a mono line level output signal via a 1/4" TS (mono) jack, so that is why you only hear audio through the left side of your headphones when you connect the stereo plug to the mono output. The Hosa Technology GPP290 Monaural Male 1/4" Phone to Stereo Female 1/4" Phone Adapter (B&H # HOAPMSPF) will convert the stereo plug on your headphones to mono and that will allow you to hear mono audio through both sides of you headphones (same audio through both sides) when you connect the stereo headphones to the mixer's mono aux output. If you need to connect two sets of stereo headphones to the ZEDi-10FX, a better option would be to use a stereo splitter connected to the mixer's headphone output. The Hosa Technology 1/4" Male to Two 1/4" Female Y-Cable (B&H # HOYCSPM2SPF) will allow you to connect two sets of stereo headphones without sacrificing tone, volume or stereo separation. If you need to accommodate more than two sets of headphones, the best option is to use a separate headphone amplifier connected to the mixer's headphone jack. The Polsen HMA-41 4-Channel Stereo Headphone Amplifier (B&H # POHMA41) or the Mackie HM-4 4-Way Headphones Amplifier (B&H # MAHM4) are good options for this purpose. The headphone amplifier will give each user their own headphone jack as well as an individual volume control to set the volume level for their headphones fas desired.

Q: 5. Is there anyway I can connect my cell phone to this mixer (an adapter or something) to receive phone calls for a podcast??? -PC

A: The best way to do a mix minus feature in this scenario is by using Dual 1/4 TS to one 3.5mm TRS Y cable. That will allow you to connect you smartphone to the mixer allowing you to receive phone calls for a podcast. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/846984-REG/Hosa_Technology_HMP_010Y_REAN_3_5_mm_TRS.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 6. I want to get the Soundcraft Notepad-12FX. I have an BBE 482i. Soundcraft Notepad-12FX has Male XLR outputs only. The BBE 482i has 1/4 inch inputs only.Do I simply need a female xlr to male trs cable to connect the mixer to the BBE? Or do I need some sort of D.I. Box to convert the XLR out from the mixer to Line Level? Thanks for your help.

A: The XLR outputs of the mixer are Line level, so you would simply need need a cable, such as a Hosa Technology Balanced 1/4 TRS Male to 3-Pin XLR Male Audio Cable (5'), B&H # HOHSX005.

Q: 7. If affixed to camera like the Nikon Z6, can you still use the viewfinder or does the back of the shock mount get in the way? If so, could a shoe mount accessory solve that?

A: The viewfinder will not be blocked by the microphone's shoe mount.

Q: 8. I want to pick one or two channels and route it to the AUX only (eg to a Drummer). This mix should not come to the main headphone or master output to the speakers. Can I do it in this mixer?

A: You can create a separate mix via the Aux Output on the mixer. Please note, doing this will defeat the internal fx on the mixer.

Q: 9. Can you set up a mix minus with this unit for webcast use?

A: Utilizing the Aux output on this mixer, you could create a mix minus to send to phone interface or separate audio interface and return the callers audio back to an available channel on the mixer. Please note, this can not be done directly through the USB port on this mixer.

Q: 10. What is the input/output impedance for this device?

A: The input inpedance is 1.6K? (-10dB), and the output is 660?(-10dB).
