Lomography's La Sardina line of cameras are 35mm film cameras featuring a sardine-can shaped body, 22mm wide-angle plastic lens, built-in optical viewfinder, and multiple and long-exposure capabilities. This DIY White edition features a customizable blank body that can be decorated in any manner of your choosing.

This wide-angle plastic 22mm lens has an angle of view of 89°, giving a broad perspective and great depth of field. A fixed f/8 aperture is suitable for most shooting applications and two-stage focusing gives you the option to focus between 2-3.3' / 0.6-1m and from 3.3' / 1m to infinity. The plastic construction gives images a soft, dreamy quality that truly defines the "toy camera look."

Two exposures settings are available: N (1/100th sec.) or B (bulb) for controlling exposure lengths to suit different lighting situations. Additionally, an MX mode is available, which allows you to record unlimited multiple exposures on the same frame. The bulb setting allows you to record long exposures, which is further benefited by the inclusion of a 1/4" tripod socket and a cable release socket to help prevent camera shake.

A dedicated micro contact is available in order to use the included Fritz the Blitz flash for more creative exposure possibilities or for simply adding additional light to the scene. This external flash attaches to the side of the camera and features three distance settings (5.25, 4, and 2') for greater exposure control when shooting. Additionally, four colored filters (blue, yellow, white, and red) are also included to creatively modify the color of the flash output.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what type of projecter should i use to show the movies?

A: You will need a 35mm film projector. Those are very hard to find and very rare. When you do find them they are very expensive unfortunately. Usually you need to scan the film to a computer in order to see the movie.

Q: 2. I recently bought this and the film is struggling to go around properly without tearing and the lever doesn't turn as using the camera. Please help?

A: Hey, I was there before. I don't think we need to attach the film much on the lever. I would say just a little bit. You might feel it's gonna loose at any minute. Give it a shot. Good luck!

Q: 3. Can you take of the flash?

A: Yes, the flash is removeable.

Q: 4. If the camera can only shoot 144 frames per roll, does that mean for each 6 seconds (standard 24fps) video, we have to switch a new roll?

A: The film is actually around 4-6 fps max. It's hand cranked so there's no way you get 24fps. A film roll actually gives about 30 seconds of film. Think of it more like an old silent movie type rate. I got an 8 scecond sequence from 22 frames as an example.

Q: 5. Is this camera used for making movies?

A: Yes! It uses 35mm film and you can create your own movies with it.

Q: 6. Can this be used with 120mm color transparency film (such as Kodak Ektachrome or FUJI Provia 100F)?

A: You can use any 120 film with the Lomography Diana F+ Film Camera and Flash (Teal/Black).

Q: 7. Focal length or angle of view known for pinhole mode?

A: Lomography Diana F+ Film Camera and Flash pinhole focal length is not stated in the specs. Looking at photos online it is a narrow focal length similar to 75mm when using the regular lens. I was able to find that the aperture is F/128 in pinhole mode.

Q: 8. In one product image, I think I see a 27mm f/1.8 lens - is that correct? It does say it comes with a 'portrait' lens but no further info provided...

A: Lomography lists the lens mm in 35mm film/full-frame digital equivalent focal lengths rather than the true focal lengths. Given the size of the film used, the unlisted actual focal lengths would be much higher. So in Lomography land, the 27mm lens on the camera has the same perspective and field of view as a 27mm lens on a 35mm film/full-frame digital camera. The add-on portrait lens is a 35mm equivalent. No focal length is given for the macro and the fish-eye.

Q: 9. does it produce sound?

A: The camera is crank 35mm moving film camera. It does not record sound. If you are referring to the sound the camera might make while recording, it is very minimal.

Q: 10. Can you name any developers who can develop the film?

A: B&H has a developing service for 35mm and 120 film.

I've owned this camera for over a year now and really enjoy taking instant photos with it. The extra lenses and ability to control aperture and exposure time allows me to be very creative with the photos I take. The plastic lens also produces a wonderful vignette effect. When compared to the photos taken with my Instax 50S, the Lomo'Instant photos have a much richer color saturation. I also appreciate the fact that this camera uses inexpensive AA batteries, rather than the more expensive CR2 batteries that some other Instax cameras require.

I think the weakest point of this camera is taking indoor photography in low light. To get a good indoor photo, the subject needs to be within a couple of feet of the camera. Or, use the "bulb" mode and extend the exposure time to allow more light to reach the film.

What advantages does this 35mm camera have over the medium format Diana? It has a built-in connection for a plunger. You have the advantage of square format or 1/2 frame 35mm, even to choose the format from frame to frame. It has an additional zone focus setting over 120 Diana zone focus system. It maintains much of the toy camera softness and artsy picture imperfections.

Easy carry, though strap a little fragile. Best used in day time-get real close! When using built in flash, I flip camera upside-down to cast shadow from lense a different direction-I rather use an attached flash, like my old SLR flash.
