With magnifying power of 46x and easy, both-eyes-open viewing, the BT-127XL-SD Binocular Telescope from Oberwerk provides a satisfying alternative to traditional telescopes for astronomical or long-range terrestrial observation. The BT-127XL-SD is built with broadband fully multicoated, super-low dispersion objective lenses that minimize chromatic aberration or "color fringing." Unlike a telescope, the optic is fitted with prisms that cause the image to be upright, so along with celestial objects, you can observe distant ships, breaching whales, mountain peaks, etc.

The BT-127XL-SD can be "go-to" automated by using the separately sold iOptron HAZ31 Strain Wave Alt-Az Mount. The optical tubes accept all 1.25" eyepieces and are held at a 45° angle for comfortable viewing. The tubes have a large interpupillary adjustment range, so everyone from children to adults can enjoy the view. Binocular telescopes are far more portable than standard telescopes and do not require specialized mounts—a video tripod with a 3/8"-16 or 1/4"-20 mounting stud will do, provided it is rated for a 24.5 lb payload. Oberwerk recommends its TR3 hardwood tripod or the Manfrotto 161MK2B, which has a crank-up elevator. Either tripod can be configured with the Oberwerk XL-280 Fork Mount or Manfrotto 612 NitroTech Head.

Q: 1. Hi.Will these work on a Sky Max 127mm 'Maksutov-Cassegrain' Telescope, as you can probably guess I'm pretty new to astronomy? Brian

A: This Viewer should fit your scope fine, as long as you have a 1.25 eyepiece opening. You might have some focusing issues, which you might need to get 2X Barlow Eyepieces. I would try the piece out first, then if you have any focusing issues get the Barlow Eyepieces.

Q: 2. What is the replacement Nikon binocular for the 10x50 WX IF model?

Q: 3. How do you focus these bad boys? The way I understand it is you focus each ocular at a fixed target. once the left and right ocular are adjusted perfectly to your eyes..thats it..(?). what happens if you want to zero in on a subject 80 yards closer (or further) from your zero'ed in subject.. do you have to recalibrate each ocular again?

A: We can see the Nikon 10x50 WX IF Binocular (Black) does have an individual focusing system for each Ocular, described in the Overview of those binoculars: "To ensure the sharpest views possible, the WX is built with a helical focusing mechanism on each individually focusing eyepiece. Eschewing the conventional center focusing system not only allows precise focusing for any user, but it also ensures the integrity and longevity of its waterproofing. The helical mechanism moves the eyepieces forward and back without rotating the eyepiece lenses, maintaining a centered optical axis that enables even more clarity and sharpness.
