Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will it work with the Z9?

A: Yes, the Nikon WR-R11a Remote Controller is compatible for use with the Nikon Z9 Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Q: 2. What is the advantage of the WR-R11a over the Nikon SU-800 commander other than size/weight? Thanks for your time.

A: The Nikon SU-800 Wireless Speedlight Commander Unit would allow you to control an unlimited number of Nikon Speedlights (the Nikon SB-R200, SB-910, SB-900, SB-800, SB-700, SB-600, SB-500, and SB-5000) for up to three (3) groups to a distance up to 66 feet. However, do note the lights are controlled line-of-sight via infrared optical output, so use in bright sunlight can reduce the maximum operating range. The Nikon WR-R11a Remote Controller would allow you to control up to 18 Nikon SB-5000 speedlights on three (3) channels. When communicating with off-camera speedlights, you have a range of 98 feet. As it uses radio transmission, you do not have issues with line-of-sight communication.

Q: 3. Is this all I would need to use an SB-5000 in radio mode off my D850?

A: Yes this is all that is needed to trigger the SB-5000 from your D850.

Q: 4. Can the WR-R11a be triggered by a Nikon Z8 in synchronized release mode? I want to release my D750 at the same time as my Z8.

A: Yes, the Nikon WR-R11a Remote Controller can trigger the Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera while the Nikon WR-R11b Remote Controller triggers the Nikon D750 DSLR Camera simultaneously by paring them on the same channel and pin number.

Q: 5. Can the joystick be removed. To used/stowed in a rack system drawer?

A: The Panasonic Touchscreen Remote Camera Controller joystick control is not removable.

Q: 6. What is the difference with this new item (WR-R11b) and the older WR-R10?

A: The WR-R11B now offers expanded compatibility for triggering the Nikon SB5000 flash from the new Z6 II and Z7 II mirrorless cameras.

Q: 7. Is this all I would need to use an SB-5000 in radio mode off my D700 and D800?

A: Unfortunately, this remote will only trigger the radio receiver in the SB-5000 using the D500, D850, D5, and Z system cameras. To fire the SB-5000 from the D700 and the D800, the Godox X1N TTL Wireless Flash Trigger Set for Nikon, BH # GOX1N. http://bhpho.to/2Tq7yyI

Q: 8. Is this all would need to use an SB-5000 in radio mode off my D750?

A: Yes, the Nikon WR-R11b Remote Controller would be all you would need to wirelessly trigger the Nikon SB-5000 Speedlight Flash remotely. You would follow the instructions in both your camera's and your flash's instruction manual and set the switch on the SB-5000 to [Remote] and select the Radio Remote mode from the flash's menu for the two items to communicate with one another. The Nikon D750 should have a "Technical Guide for Radio-Controlled Advanced Wireless Lighting" manual that was included with the camera or which is downloadable for free from the Support page on Nikon USA's website.

Q: 9. Both the WR-R11b and WR-R11a can trigger the SB5000 flash from Z6, Z6II, Z7, Z7II per NIKONUSA website. So what is the difference between them?

A: The Nikon WR-R11a is designed for use with cameras equipped with a 10-pin terminal (except some older DSLR models like the D100, D1, D1H, D1X, D200. The WR-R11a is not compatible for use with the Nikon Z6, Z6 II, Z7, or Z7 II Mirrorless Digital Cameras as they do not use the 10-pin remote terminal. The WR-R11b is compatible with cameras equipped with an accessory terminal (cannot be used with the D90, COOLPIX A, P7800, P7700, P1000, and P950). You would need the WR-R11b for use with the Nikon Z6, Z6 II, Z7, or Z7 II Mirrorless Digital Cameras.

Q: 10. Do these communicate with the WR-R10 remotes as well? I currently use the Wr-R10 so sync multiple cameras and may need to add more.

A: The WR-R11a replaces the WR-R10 controller, so it is not compatible with it.

I primarily use the timer remote for timelapse projects. It's super easy to use, and so far, has operated perfectly. I couldn't do my work without it. It feels cheap, with its lightweight plastic construction-- but since I tend to carry everything on my back, I'm not complaining! Really, a great tool!

Puchased this due to the flurry of intervalometer articles in magazines, yeah I'm a sucker but I look forward to entering new terrain! Very pleased with the intervalometer. I've used standard remotes for years but this is one on steroids. Construction looks excellent, does the standard cable relase and so much more such as self timer, interval time, long exposure and exposure counts and any combination of the above. Very versatile! Read manual and try features before going out in field.

I have an off brand wireless remote that would fail on numerous occasions. Got real tired of missing shots. Also, it would fall off when moving from location to location. Almost lost it once. The TC 80N3 locks on and will not fall off. I haven't used it in all of it's capacities, but what I have done it functions very well. I am very pleased. I would have preferred the Canon wireless remote but I do have to eat.

I'm using my remote for time lapse video, and long time exposure photography. While the remote is expensive, I feel it is well worth it, since it works beautifully, is easy to use and solidly constructed. The battery has a three year life span, the controls are very simple to use, and the bulb button; which brightens the LCD screen in low light situations is very helpful. It should be noted that holding the bulb button for three seconds or more, will put the remote into Hold mode, to turn off the Hold setting, press the bulb button for three seconds. I'm really thrilled with this remote, I've only had it a week, and already I've taken some stunning long time exposure shots, and have been getting great feedback on my photos. If you're shooting with a 7D, you'll to have the camera set to B for the remote to work properly. It's also key to note this is the timer that will allow EOS shooters to make proper time lapse videos, hence why it costs much more than other remotes. If you can afford it, get one.
