The first Manfrotto head I had was the 501... worked for 15 years till I gave it a major hit... then I bought the wonderful 502 wich I broke this year because of a 10 ft fall of the tripod. I'm replacing it for the same... Manfroto means CONTROL, quality control when you like to work, or need, alone... and with no big machines. thanks r. 5

IMO, this is the best fluid video head with drag adjustable controls for dslrs. I purchased this to replace the tripod head of my Benro tripod, because I want to start shooting videos. It has a flat base so it worked nicely with my Benro tripod. Other reviewers have complained about a creaking sound from the vertical drag adjustment knob not in mine, though. I guess they have corrected this issue now. The only complaint I have is: I can't use my tripod anymore for taking vertical still photos. I wish they come up with some kind of L support that will fit this model. Overall, though, this video head meets my expectations. 5

So far, I've managed to mount the video head onto an older video tripod which is very sturdy but I've not have any video opportunity to make actual use of the head with the video camera attached. I did mount the Canon XL-H1 video cam to the head and pretended to use it as I typically would for Honor Flight and it seemed to work very smoothly for panning and for tilting up and down without being jerky in any direction. That was always an issue with the previously mounted video head. I couldn't tighten or loosen those knobs without the video shaking. On this head, that is no problem at all. Everything tightens and loosens very smoothly. I anxiously await our next local Honor Flight to try out the new video head for real. 5
