The 5.65 x 5.65" Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND Filter is a solid neutral density filter providing a 4-stop reduction in exposure. This 1.2 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or longer shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and promote nearly flat attenuation of visible, UV, and infrared light. Due to imaging sensors' greater susceptibility to infrared light, compared to traditional film, color casts can occur when photographing darker subjects that require increased exposure times. This filter provides a high level of neutrality across all three spectrums in order to eliminate color casts and ensure cleaner, truer blacks.

Sandwiched between layers of SCHOTT Superwite glass is a 15-layer Firecrest multicoating, which helps to minimize reflections and flare in order maintain truer colors and contrast. Since the coating is located within the middle of the filter, it is less prone to scratching or damage and results in a more durable and hydrophobic design. This filter measures 5.65 x 5.65" / 143.5 x 143.5mm and is 4mm thick.

ND 1.2 filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.

Providing a 4-stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

Attenuates infrared light, as well as visible and UV wavelengths, to maintain color neutrality and suppress color casts due to increased exposure lengths.

The 15-layer Firecrest coating has been applied directly to the filter glass by way of a vacuum-formed, hard-coated, electrolytic process. The multicoating is sandwiched between layers of glass for added water and scratch resistant.

Schott Superwite glass promotes maintained image clarity and its 4mm thick design is well suited to use in matte boxes.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this filter fit Cokin P holder?

A: Yes, it will fit either the Formatt Hitech or Cokin P Series filter holder.

Q: 2. Will these work on the lee holder system??

A: Yes you could use these with a 100mm Lee holder https://bhpho.to/2QqpVki.

Q: 3. What is the weight of this filter?

A: I dont know.

Q: 4. Is this filter suitable for solar imaging?

A: Yes, when shooting in live view, you can use it. I wouldn't use it while looking through the viewfinder if you have a DSLR but live view is ok.

Q: 5. Does it have a gasket like the big stopper?

A: No.

Q: 6. Will this work with the smallrig Lightweight Matte Box? I see many people saying 100x100mm are incompatible but they say 4x4 inch are... confusing or what??

A: The Formatt Hitech 100 x 100mm Firecrest Ultra ND 0.9 Filter (3-Stop) is incompatible with the SmallRig Lightweight Carbon Fiber Matte Box because the filter trays on the matte box support 4mm thick filters, and the Formatt Hitech filter is 2mm thick.

Q: 7. Will these Formatt 46mm Firecrest Ultras fit the Z800 mm as screw in filters?

A: The Nikon 52mm Circular Polarizer (C-PL3L) Glass Filter compatible with the Nikon NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S Lens does not allow the 46 mm polarizing filter to come off and to be changed with another filter so this Formatt Hitech 46mm Firecrest Ultra ND 0.9 Filter can't be used.

Q: 8. Does this filter come in a case?

A: No it doesnt!I boughta href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/212303-REG/B_W_65024717_E1_Filter_Pouch.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/212303-REG/B_W_65024717_E1_Filter_Pouch.html/aAnd its suitable.Mika from Finland

Q: 9. Is this filter compatible with the Sigma 8mm f/3.5 EX DG Circular Fisheye lens? In particular, will there be the Vignette effect?

A: I don't know how you plan on attaching it to the lens but if you just hold it in front of the lens, you will get some vignetting that can be adjusted in post. BTW, there is really no other way to use a filter with this lens other than holding it or using the rear gelatin filter holder that takes cut to size gel filters.

Q: 10. How's the vignetting when shooting wide open? Do you have to crop any?

A: I use the the filter ONLY on my Canon 24mm TS-E... and I have not had any issues on any of my images from using this filter. As the old saying goes... you get what you pay for... so, if you're using sub-par glass using an expensive filter, EXPECT sub-par results... no matter the type of filter you use!

I upgraded from another brand, even though these cost more they are a better value than the ones I came from. Absolutely no color cast & super light weight, perfect for gimbal work.

I've been using NDs and specifically Firecrest for about 6 months now including 15 days solid of landscape work in Ireland. Very high quality, easy to work with. I've been using 4, 10 and 16 stops. Thought hat would be best range and most flexibility for combinations. It all works great, but I found more often than not a 6 stop would work best. So I've added it and works great .

Very happy with this filter. I ran some tests on it today and while it rendered the image a touch darker than my camera's internal ND does when set to the comparable 4 stops of reduction - it did so with no noticeable color shift. I will continue to purchase Firecrest NDs for any future needs.

This is a top of line ND filter--! I bought it for controlling aperture on very bright days and for long exposure when shooting waterfalls. No-color cast and excellent picture quality, as would be expected since this filter is made with Schott Superwite glass. The front filter thread accepts my other 77mm filters without issue. Excellent quality, I would buy this filter again!

Excellent quality. Very fragile, but that's true of all 4x5.65 glass.

This and maybe the 1.2 are quickly become my favorites for doing long exposure work around dawn/sunrise/sunset/golden hour shots. Can't beat high quality Schott Superwite Glass and coatings that don't degrade like other company's filters.

Great filter for BM cameras. I am using this in addition to the internal ND on the BM URSA Mini Pro and it matches perfectly.
