Designed for up to 8K cine-style image capture and covering up to full-frame size sensors, the white Micro Four Thirds-mount 11mm T4.3 Cine Lens from IRIX incorporates multiple internal and external design features. This 11mm lens will produce a classic wide-angle look or up to a 123° viewing angle in the 2.39:1 widescreen format, depending on your camera's sensor. External features include a 95mm front diameter, 0.8 MOD gears, luminous focus marks in feet, and a detachable 1/4"-20 support foot.

Internally, nine blades produce smooth, rounded bokeh, and four seals protect against inclement weather and dust. To help eliminate aberrations and distortion, the IRIX 11mm T4.3 Cine Lens is constructed with 16 optical elements in 10 groups, including four HR (high refractive index) and two ED (extra-low dispersion) elements. A Multi-Start Thread focusing mechanism delivers quiet, precise focusing even in wet or humid conditions or in extreme temperatures. This lens has 180° of focus and 75° of iris rotation, an 86mm front filter thread, and it includes front and rear caps.

The IRIX Cine 11mm is a wide 43.3mm full-frame lens that uses 16 optical elements, including four high refractive index (HRI) and two extra low-dispersion glass (ED) elements, to create crisp cinematic shots in resolutions up to 8K while keeping the focus breathing at a minimum. This lens features a relatively fast T4.3 maximum aperture and can be stopped down to T22.

Q: 1. Can anyone tell me how to read/use the hyperfocal scale on this lens? I know what hyperfocal focus is and on most other lenses I know how to use it, but the scale on this lens is truly perplexing to me - specifically, why are there multiple aperture values on both the left and right sides of the centre mark? And there's also another hyperfocal marker above the distances as you approach the infinity mark. So far I've only been able to test it visually by taking the same photo at different focus values and comparing them on my computer to see which are the most in-focus. This is by no means a very technical approach to achieving the proper focus, so I'm very interested in learning how to properly use the hyperfocal scale on this lens. Thanks in advance for any information anyone can provide!

A: The aperture scales on the left and right of the focus mark indicate the approximate distances from the focal plane of the camera within which the image will be acceptable sharp at the current focus setting. It's referred to as a depth of field scale. The hyperfocal scale allows you to set your focus to the approximate hyperfocal distance for your current aperture, by aligning the f/number on the scale with the center focus mark. Irix has a good article on their site explaining DoF, hyperfocal distance and how to use both scales.

Q: 2. (Please ignore or delete my previous question about the difference between the FireFly and Blackstone iterations of this lens -- it is answered in the Overview -Duh! - My bad.) Are the FireFly and Blackstone editions identical in terms of image quality? Thank you!

A: yes Mark the firefly and the blackstone are identical in image quality. The only difference is between them is that the blackstone is fully weather sealed.

Q: 3. Would the Sigma MC-11 adapter for Canon EF to Sony E mount work on this lens?

A: Yes the IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly Lens for Canon EF compatible with the MC11.

Q: 4. Will this work with the Sony FX30?

A: The Viltrox 56mm T1.5 Cine Lens (Micro Four Thirds Mount) would not be compatible with the Sony FX30 Digital Cinema Camera as this lens is an MFT mount and the FX30 is natively compatible with Sony E-Mount lenses. The E-Mount version, Viltrox 56mm T1.5 Cine Lens (Sony E-Mount), BH #VI56T15SEAC, would be compatible with the Sony FX30.

Q: 5. What is the difference between the FireFly and Blackstone iterations of this lens? What do you get with the extra money for the Blackstone? Thank you!

A: The Blackstone has a metal body and engraved numbers. The Blackstone is heavier as well. Optically they are the same.

Q: 6. Since there is no Sony FE version, how will this work with a Canon EF to Sony E Metabones adapter?

A: Works well with the Metabones Canon EF/EF-S Lens to Sony E Mount T Smart Adapter (Fifth Generation).

Q: 7. Why does this lens have electronics? Is the aperture electronically controlled?

A: Per the manual: The lens aperture is operated electronicallythrough the camera.

Q: 8. Anyone using this with a c100 mkii? If so, thoughts?

A: The IRIX 11mm f/4 Blackstone Lens for Canon EF is an excellent choice for someone interested in a super wide angle rectilinear lens for the C100 Mk II Digital Cinema Camera. The rectilinear design limits image distortion and the lens uses a positive lock mechanism that will make it easier to pull focus consistently and accurately.

Q: 9. Is this a fisheye lenses? Thanks

A: The IRIX 11mm f/4 Firefly Lens for Canon EF is an ultra-wide-angle lens, but it's not technically a fisheye lens--it doesn't create a circular image and it has been designed to minimize some of the distortion inherent in a lens with a focal length this wide.

Q: 10. What is the difference between Firefly lens vs Blackstone lens?

A: Irix 11mm f/4 Firefly and Blackstone share the same specifications. The difference is in the build quality. The blackstone is stronger made of durable aluminum and magnesium alloy. The firefly lens is made of a lightweight ABS plastic exterior construction.
