The Cactus LV5 Laser Trigger utilizes an emitter and sensor that can be set up to trigger a camera or flash unit upon changes in the beam's signal. The sensor features an embedded 2.4 GHz Cactus V5 radio module that has 16 channels and a range of up to 328' as well as a standard 3.5mm shutter release port for making a physical connection to certain cameras. Also, the emitter and sensor can work with a large 492' distance between them for more elaborate setups.

The LV5 works with Cactus V5, V6, V6 II, V6 IIs transceivers or modules or by connecting directly to a compatible camera or flash unit with the included 3.5mm cord. It features Duo Mode Triggering for providing the option of triggering when either the transmission is blocked or when an object is removed from between the sensor and emitter. The device also supports flash sync speeds up to 1/1000 second and offers a variety of shutter delay and freeze settings for customizing your setup. You can set the trigger to single, continuous, and bulb shot modes in coordination with your camera and each device runs on either 2 or 4 AAA batteries.

A: How this can work with other radio systems like Pocketwizard Plus III is the Cactus sensor needs to be attached via a 3.5 to 3.5 cord to the Plus III. When the Cactus sensor is set off it sets off the hard wired Pocketwizard which then can set off other Pocketwizards.

Q: 2. Will this Laser Boresighter work for my pellet gun?

A: Unfortunately I don't think so. The Laser Boresighter has 5 arbors that are compatible with .22 to .50 caliber firearms.

Q: 3. what is distance/ range?

A: The range is the same as a normal laser pointer

Q: 4. will it work in my hi-point .40 cal.?

A: Yes it will. There are several bushings to use in the bore.

Q: 5. which cable should I buy to connect this device to Canon EOS 7D mark ii (needs to be at least 20 feet long)? Thanks.

A: The LV5 has a 3.5mm port. The Canon 7D Mark II has a 3-pin shutter release. The proper cable would be the Vello 3.5mm shutter release cable for Canon 3-pin. B&H # VERCCC235. But this is not 20' long. Very soon Vello is releasing a 33' extension cord for this cable. In the meantime, the Canon 33' extension cord will work. B&H # CAET1000N3

Q: 6. How precisely do you have to line up the laser? We've tried a similar product but it's so picky that even a strong wind can push it far enough out of alignment that the camera will not trigger.

A: The subject will need to be precisely aligned with the trigger.

Q: 7. My laser sitter stopped working. I put same new batteries it and it still not working. What do i need to do to get it working again

A: Yes, this would be a good product for splash photography. You would not need additional cables to connect this to a 5DS.

A: The Bushnell Laser Boresighter will handle anything from .22 - .50 Caliber.

Q: 10. Can it be set to only trigger if the subject is moving faster than say 20mph?

A: Unfortunately, the LV5 cannot be set to trigger based on a specific speed of the subject in motion.

Great product. Well finished. Finally SONY users have a radio trigger with all functions like High Speed Sync (Normal HSS and Power Sync), remote control of flash power and head zoom, remote AF light, etc. Also the V6IIs includes features like the remote shutter (additional cable needed), Relay mode, Sport Shutter mode (Additional cable needed), etc. Great that the Firmware can be updated via USB cable. To avoid zebra stripes on HSS you need to turn off the e-Front electronic curtain. I am really happy with my units. 5

A co-worker has had the Cactus V6 for a while. When I wanted to upgrade from my dumb triggers these were the obvious choice. Works easily with the other Cactus triggers, and it's nice having all the same interface. The only downside is the Sony shoe prevents you from sliding it onto a standard cold shoe for light stands. I had a Hot Shoe to 1/4-20 Male Post Adapter and it screws into the 1/4-20 socket on the bottom of all Cactus flash. 5

I use this to control my two Canon 430EX strobes from my Sony A7R ii. I was really impressed how seamlessly the strobes integrate with the camera. I am able to control focal width and power on the strobes remotely from the unit on the camera and they sync without a problem beyond the 1/250s max flash sync speed the camera has when connected directly to a strobe. I've tried it down to 1/2000s without a hitch (it may go faster, I just haven't tried it). I have not experienced any glitches in the connection between transmitter/receiver. The only downside is the small delay between pressing the trigger and the shutter actually going off but I can live with that. 5

I originally bought this in hopes to use it with the Miops trigger remote laser function, then realized I didn’t need the Miops at all. Win win as the LV5 is only a fraction of the cost. Not to downplay Miops Trigger, there’s a ton of features on there that can’t be matched. But all in all, the LV5 is a great tool if your looking to automate your shoots. Pros: Inexpensive Easy to use (Laser alignment is very forgiving) Nice construction and build Doesn’t miss a beat Cons: Short cable (recommend a extension cord for your hook up if you plan on shooting with the receiver off camera. ) 5
