The Audio-Technica AT831cW is a miniature condenser microphone with a cardioid polar pattern. It has been designed for hands free applications in sound reinforcement systems, and for use by professional musicians, especially for pickup of acoustic guitar. The AT831cW provides improved gain before feedback that normally cannot be achieved with miniature omnidirectional microphones. Close up voice and instrument pickup are crisp and clean, yet full sounding, while suppression of background noise is significantly improved over that of stand mounted full size cardioid microphones.

This model AT831cW has been specifically designed for use with Audio Technica's Wireless Transmitters.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the length of the XLR cable that comes with this kit?

Q: 2. Does this come with a USB cable so i can record to my computer?

A: The Tascam US-600 audio interface included in this kit will ship with a USB cable that will enable you to connect the unit to your computer.

Q: 3. It says Good for Voice Actors . Is it NOT as good for recording professional music?

A: Voice Acting or V/O (voice-over) work are just a few applications suited for this set-up. Musical applications are appropriate as well.

Q: 4. We bought this Mic and expected an xlr cable which was not included. Was a cable supposed to be included?

A: No, an XLR cable is not included with the AT2035 microphone. The mic comes with a shockmount and protective pouch for storage.

Q: 5. Can I use line level signal on the AT897?

A: It only has an XLR out, so it will be a mic level output. It does have a spot where you can put a battery in, if you do not have phantom power in your recorder though.

Q: 6. How is the quality of this microphone compared to a similarly priced mono shotgun? I realize it can't possibly be as good since it is a jack of all trades, but does it compare reasonably well against the rode NTG3 or even the Sennheiser MKE 600?

A: The audio and build quality of the Audio-Technica BP4029 are very good. There are differences in design between the stereo BP4029 and the mono Rode NTG3 and Sennheiser MKE 600 microphones and in the way that they capture sound. Mono and stereo mics are typically used for different applications. The NTG3 and MKE 600 each have one cardioid mic element for a very focused pattern which picks up sound from directly in front of the mic. The stereo BP4029 has a mid-side configuration with separate cardioid and figure-8 mic elements which work together to create a stereo image. The cardioid element is used for "mid" and faces the sound source while the figure-8 element is the "side" mic which is typically aimed at a 90 degree angle from the sound source and creates the left and right split. The BP4029 offers three selectable settings -- M-S direct, LR wide, and LR narrow. In M-S mode, the BP4029 provides a traditional stereo sound. In addition to the basic M-S pattern, the BP4029 also offers LR wide mode to pick up more of the ambient sounds for a wider stereo image while the LR narrow mode picks up less of the ambient sound for a more narrow stereo image. The three settings allow the mic to be adjusted based on the recording environment in order to capture the best possible audio. So the mic you select should be based on the application it will be used for, the direction of the audio source, as well as the recording environment.

Q: 7. what connection is used on the back side of the plate?

A: Connections are three set screws bearing down on silver plates...tin your wires and trim to a quarter inch, then inserrt each under the plate and tighten down the set screws...could not be easier...first you might place a heat shrink tube on the cord (heat shrink inside diameter large enuff to fit over the set screw mounting) and that will help prevent the cord from being yanked out...

Q: 8. Before I place my order, can you tell me what additional accessories will I need to get started (aside from the computer)? Cables? Shock mount? Thanks!

A: The Audio-Technica Voice Actor Starter Kit ships with everything necessary to get started recording. The AT2035 mic ships with shockmount, and XLR cable for connection of mic to the interface is included as well.

Q: 9. Can this product work with Smartphones, if so, what brands ?

A: The Audio-Technica AT-UMX3 Livestreaming USB Audio Mixer (BH # AUATUMX3) would accept a line level input from a variety of products including smartphones (brand agnostic).

Q: 10. How large is the diaphragm?

A: The manufacturer does not specify. Typically this type of mic offers a diaphragm larger than 3/4 .
