The Tiffen 4 x 4" Warm Soft/FX 1 Filter diffuses strong light entering the lens and produces a glowing effect. While the resulting image appears softer and ethereal, there is little loss of clarity or detail. This filter works by diffusing the light entering the lens with small aberrations; by spreading the light more evenly, a soft glow is created rather than the sharp, well-defined image when shooting without a filter. The 1 density provides more softening than the 1/2, but less than the 2.

This filter also combines the diffusion effect with an 812 warming filter for providing a general warmth to the image and for improving skin tones. This warming effect also helps to reduce blue sensitivity and for cutting through overly cool tones within the scene.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. This filter measures 4 x 4" / 101.6 x 101.6mm.

Diffuser filter provides an ethereal quality to photographs, resulting in a dream-like atmosphere.

Soft image quality does not detract from the overall detail of the image.

Light entering the lens is diffused by small aberrations, creating a soft glow rather than the sharp, well-defined image when shooting without a filter.

Warming filter helps to reduce bluish casts and provide more balanced skin tones.

Shooting up here on the high deserts of New Mexico, I've always used a circular polarizer instead of a plain UV. The Hoya warming polarizer, mounted on my 70-300 apo, is superior to my polarizer on my standard lens. The touch of warmer colors combined with the circuler polarizing control is just what I've needed at our high altitude, bright sun and multi-colored skies and vistas.

This is admittedly the first filter I buy for a camera. I can therefore not compare it to other filters. However, I will say this: the build is solid, it fits nicely and it gives great results.

I am on my way to spend about a month backpacking in Alaska next week and decided to try this filter. I spent some time in Arkansas recently and this filter is more than I expected. Fit was Awesome and tight. The circular filter is a nice change from my non circular and the warm tones I got in the morning and evening were nothing less than spectacular. Hitting the rapids later in the day I decided to take the camera. The pics I got of the fish were unreal. I'm a fisherman and the filter allowed me to shoot the fish under the water and I had some great shots of some nice stripers up in the shallow water. I'm sold.

I shoot film as well as digital. And obviously there's no white balance adjustmant with film. Sometimes even on sunny days the light is a tad cool in color temperature(like at midday or if it's a little hazy). And I hate stacking both a polarizer and warm up filter-that will almost certainly cause vignetting on a wide angle lens. This Moose warm polarizer is just the answer for that. The warming is rather weak, but does make a difference. However, it's not so strong that I have to carry a regular polarizer. I have made these my main polarizers and leave the regular ones at home. I have these Moose warm polarizers in many sizes for all of my lenses now-52, 58, 62, 67, and 77mm.
