Sound Devices Mp-1 Single-channel Portable Microphone Preamplifier

  • Availability: In Stock

$1,965.00 $2,574.15

Designed for high-definition field production applications, the Sound Devices MP-1 is a single-channel microphone preamp that delivers studio-grade audio in a portable, lightweight package. The unit features a transformer-balanced XLR microphone input and line-level output resulting in high gain and low noise floor. A large gain-adjustment dial provides up to 66 dB of gain in eleven discrete steps.

A 3-position phantom power switch enables 12 or 48V phantom power for condenser microphones. A low-cut filter switch eliminates noise due to wind and proximity effect at 80 or 160 Hz (user switchable). Peak limiter switch moderates signal peaks, eliminating distortion due to signal over load. The MP-1 is powered with 2 AA batteries (available separately) for approximately 24 hours.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. The MixPre6 II can generate a Sound Report? And what's the utility of recording in 2 tracks using the TRS/AUX input? Thank you

A: thank you for your question. the MIX PRE 6 cannot generate a sound report. The TRS input can be used for a tentacle sync to record time code or to record any external line level signal

Q: 2. What size fits this porta brace?, for example my size for a serious shirt m, because I see that the person in the picture that shows the product is one size larger.

A: I'm an asian M. My shoulder width is about 1'15, and this is a little bit big for me. However, with the velcro straps (there's a lot of flexibility), I'm still able to get a good fit.

Q: 3. Is there a controller*Cl8 or Cl9*for Scorpio? Like 788T

A: There is a whole list of third party controllers that you can use, I like the most the iCON Platform M+ (with the D2 display), which is what I personally use myself. But if I could afford it, I would buy the Sound Devices CL16

Q: 4. Can I run 4 shotgun mics through the xlr inputs and 1 lav through the line input and have 5 separate tracks in post?

A: Yes, you can input 4x phantom powered mics with the MixPre-6 II XLR inputs and 1x Stereo/2x Mono Mic/Line level signals into the 3.5mm Aux In jack. The Aux In does not provide phantom power, but does have a preamp to boost signals.

Q: 5. I'm a little confused. The mixpre 3 ii has a timecode generator, but you have to keep it on the camera? Can't you just jam timecode to the camera then separate them. My whole reason for picking up the zoom f6 or mixpre 3 ii was to get my sound equipment off my shoulder rig

A: The MixPre-3 II has a timecode generator, so it can maintain timecode on its own. As long as the camera that is being jammed from the MixPre-3 II also has a timecode generator, the 2 devices do not need to be continuously connected. However, if the camera only contains a timecode reader, the camera would require a constant connection to a timecode generator.

Q: 6. I'm primarily interested in using the MixPre as an audio interface. Will a MacBook Pro provide enough power over USB-C or not?

A: Yes, the Sound Devices MixPre-6 II 6-Channel / 8-Track Multitrack 32-Bit Field Recorder can be bus-powered by a MacBook Pro.

Q: 7. Is there dugan automix or mix assist function?

A: Scorpio is powerful and flexible enough to accommodate both MixAssist and Dugan Automatic Mixing. These features will be available in a future firmware release.

Q: 8. I have the original MixPre-6. I love it except for the USB-C port. The cable slips out of the port easily. This becomes very frustrating in live stream scenarios. Was this fixed? Does it 'stick' like a usb-c port in the phone, or is it still a bit loose? My current one is so loose that a small jostle will give me a low power warning.

A: Hello Sarah. The design of the USB-C port has not changed since inception. However, one should technically be able to carefully “dangle” the MixPre-6 II by the USB cable (just a few inches above a table, for example). We obviously don’t normally recommend this activity, but it’s a good test of the “tightness” of the USB-C port. Please contact our support team via our website, as it sounds like your USB-C port might require replacement.

Q: 9. Can set up post fade insulated tracks with Mixpre Series II recorders at 32 Bit (to feed post fade signal directly to ISO tracks?

A: Hi Renzo. Post-fade signals are audio signals that are after or "post" the ISO inputs and tracks. Generally, post-fade signals are not sent to ISO tracks. Please feel free to send an email to support@sounddevices.com with technical questions. Thank you!

Q: 10. Does the Scorpio unit support the Sennheiser Ambeo VR microphone like the Mixpre-10t?

A: At this time, no. There will be a firmware update at some point, but the folks at Sound Devices do not have a time frame. You can link 4 input channels, but the audio will be recorded in 'A' format.
