The Auray WLF Series Foam Windscreens are designed to reduce unwanted vocal pops and broadband wind noise with minimal high frequency loss.

This WLF-038-3 Foam Windscreen is designed for use with headset, podium and lavalier mics with a 3/8" diameter. The density of the specialty acoustic foam is optimized to help protect the microphone element from air bursts without muffling the sound.

Whether used on headset, podium or lavalier microphones, these windscreens are effective in minimizing wind noise and plosive sounds. They are most effective in calm to light breeze conditions (0-7mph), and can be used indoors for protection against drafts caused by air-conditioners. Users can generally expect a notable reduction in wind noise, with very slight dampening of high frequencies. For most applications, this is a worthwhile exchange.

The WLF-038-3's foam is hypoallergenic and helps prevent moisture and dirt from damaging your microphone. The windscreens are designed to fit microphones from AKG, Audio-Technica, Audix, Beyerdynamic, Electro-Voice, Sennheiser, Sony, Shure and others.

The WLF-038-3 Foam Windscreens for 3/8" Diameter Microphones are an effective solution for basic wind protection.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If I'm going to be mounting the AT875R on the camera, not holding it, is there any advantage to using foam cover as apposed to just one of these, or would this do for everything?

A: This is a few years after the original question, but the dynamics are still the same for anyone else wondering if these higher-end dead cats are worth the extra few bucks. YES, there is an advantage over every other option out there, including the lesser-priced ones that are really only the fuzzy part and retrofit over your existing foam windshield. Look at the picture of the cutout on the Auray professional windscreen. See the webby network of nondescript "whatever that is" between the outside of the dead cat (IE the fuzzy exterior) and the microphone itself? THAT is what keeps the wind out. It is made of a pliable plastic, and because of its jumbled weave, it cuts the path of the wind from as many directions as you see "jumbles." In my experience, the fluffy exterior helps more with cutting plosives and with sibilance. Let's put it this way, when I want clean audio, these professional windscreens are what go on my microphones. When I NEED a video that requires an audio sync with wind (a close of leaves blowing, etc), I will record two tracts: one mic with the professional windscreen for clean audio, and the second mic with the mic-kit "foam" one, so I will have "just enough" wind noise to match the scene!

I use this with my RE50 mic when recording interviews with people for radio pieces. Helps minimize wind noise and hard p vocal sounds. An inexpensive, yet valuable, add-on to a mic purchase.

Use it in very heavy wind in intense weather on my RE50 mic. Sometimes the wind literally blows these away so I have to keep a supply on hand. They work as well as the $ ones, so why pay more?

I bought this more for aesthetics to place on my RE50/B ElectroVoice mic, but in regards to the wind, and voice input, it blocks the pops.

I use these on everything from an E.V RE-18 model mic, E.V 664A model to the Shure 579SB models. These foam windscreens fit so many older mics and are very high quality. Worth every penny.
