Distinguished by a uniquely fast and versatile design, the Sigma SA-mount Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM is an Art-series zoom, covering wide-angle to normal focal lengths. Separating itself from the pack, this zoom features an exceedingly bright f/1.8 constant maximum aperture, which suits its use in difficult lighting conditions and offers impressive depth of field control throughout the zoom range. The optical design incorporates a series of SLD and aspherical elements, which help to achieve high clarity and sharpness by suppressing various aberrations, color fringing, and distortion. A Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied, too, which controls lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Balancing the optical merits, this 18-35mm also sports an advanced Hyper Sonic Motor, along with an internal focusing design, to promote fast, quiet, and precise autofocus performance.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.

Wide-to-normal zoom is designed for APS-C-format Sigma SA-mount cameras and provides a 27-52.5mm equivalent focal length range.

Impressively bright constant f/1.8 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.

Five Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements are featured in the optical design and help to reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity and color accuracy.

Four aspherical elements are used to help limit distortion and spherical aberrations and also contribute to greater overall sharpness and accurate rendering.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

Integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), along with an internal focusing system, realizes quick and quiet autofocus, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.

Constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations. Additionally, a brass bayonet affords improved mounting accuracy and rigidity.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If order the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens for Sony Alpha; will I need to buy an adapter such as MC11 for my sony a6300?

A: The Sony a6300 has a super 35 sensor, like the ones in the canon c300. I have used this lens with the C300 and haven't had any problems. I have only gotten vignetting when using an wide angle adapter in front of the lens. You should be fine with your a6300

Q: 2. A am a GH4 video shooter.Does this lens makes some focus breathing or flickering when zooming like on my panassonic 12-35 lens?

A: I have no experience w/ the GH4, but do own the Sigma lens you mentioned. I take focus breathing to be a change in the apparent focal length at certain distances. With this interpretation, I can say there have been no complaints of focus breathing and I follow the forums closely. I have not seen any myself. I don't know you mean by flickering . Usually, flickering in video is a body/frame rate problem and has nothing to do with the lens. I can say that the lens focuses quietly and smoothly. It should be less likely that you will hear it on video than other lenses -- again, I'm not familiar w/ the panasonic lenses. If you are concerned about the lens searching for focus it does snap into focus very fast and with a minimum of that back and forth business, at least on my Nikons. I hope that this helps.

Q: 3. I'm looking to purchase this lens with a Tilta ES-T13 Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Rig & Tilta FF-T03 15mm Follow Focus with Hard Stops. Is it all possible to set this particular lens with this follow focus system? If not - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

A: This lens will work fine with a follow focus set up.

Q: 4. Will this lens work for the Black Magic Design Cinema Camera?

A: You could use the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens for Canon on the Black Magic Design Cinema Camera that has the EF mount.

Q: 5. REALLY want this lens but - has the early-on auto focus issues been taken care of (possibly w/ a firmware update) for the Canon 80D?

A: not sure, I don't have an issue like that, sorry

Q: 6. Will it work on 5D Mark IV for video (with the 4K crop)

A: yes that 5d mark IV has a crop factor which will match perfectly with this lens only shooting in 4k as the 5d in 4k crops

Q: 7. Does this autofocus issue happen on the Rebel T6i? I really want this lens but the Autofocus failing is giving me cold feet.

A: I am unaware of any autofocus issues with this lens. This will be fully compatible with your T6i. Sigma stands behind this lens with a Limited 3-Year U.S.A. Extended Warranty Extension Against Manufacturing and Workmanship Defects.

Q: 8. will this work with a Nikon D7100?

A: Yes it will even tho I have had the Nikon 5300 and the Nikon d7500 which its works great on

Q: 9. I read how this lens has focusing issues in certain situations, what I wanna know is only on certain camera models ??? I own a Sony 99 the first generation, so would I have focusing issues when using AF ??? I am really interested in this lens but AF issues I have read throw a red flag and worry me

A: There have been focusing issues with the lens but that's only out of the box. The lens comes with a separate calibrator which should fix any focusing issues.

Q: 10. Is this a good portrait lens? I mainly shoot newborns

A: Hi RachaelFirst off, this is an extremely good lens, I have had fantastic shots, low light levels, night, Bokeh effects, etc. It is NOT for a full frame camera. It is also wide angle and you would have to be close for baby photography. I would recommend you check distance you would like to shoot from and deicide if that works for you. The 35mm translates to roughly 50mm on the old 35mm cameras. Hope this information helps.

APS-C users rejoice. At least Sigma has not forgotten APS-C users. This lens is amazing. F1.8 on a zoom is ridiculous. My copy is sharp throughout the range with no focus issues. The lens is hefty, but balances well on the D7100. It feels very well made and the finish on the new Sigma line of lenses is very classy. In fact, I prefer the new Sigma finish to my Nikons.I highly recommend this lens to any APS-C user that shoots low light or just wants a very sharp standard zoom lens. The zoom range is somewhat limited, but I can live with that. It's sharper and quieter than my Tamron 17-50mm which I've been using for over 5 years now.A nice surprise is how close this lens is able to focus. It's not a macro lens by any means, but it has a very reasonable magnification.Although I haven't found the need to make any micro adjustments to the focusing, it's nice to know that Sigma offers the USB dock to update and customize their lenses. Nikon and Canon can definitely learn a thing or two from Sigma's new playbook.

I love this lens! I use it with my Cannon 70D (cropped sensor) and it works great as a wideangle for beginners. Every time I hit the shutter I'm amazed at the images produced.

Been eyeballing this bad boy for 2 years... read tons of reviews, watched lots of videos.. it is just one of the best overall all round lenses you can own for photos or video. The quality is top notch, the lens is well constructed, the image is right on up there with much more expensive lenses.

Sigma is a quirky company. Technically, this is a faster lens that the trinity 2.8 zooms, but not noticeably faster. It is a huge lens that adds weight and length to your rig. You are also getting an equivalent 27-52.5mm. This cuts off the wide edge that will allow anyone to mistake this for a wide lens, and 50mm is not 70mm for portraits. In fact, there are plenty of 35mm 1.8 prime lenses for a lot less money. What makes this lens special is that it is the compression and color saturation of this lens is in a class by itself. This is a well-constructed working lens that will help your images stand out. This is the professional glass that is needed for things like the APS-C foveon sensor to really stand out, though I'm sure that there are plenty of other DSLR APS-C cameras out there that would benefit from this. It isn't perfect (I can't even imagine what a true 24-70 equivalent 1.8 would weigh or cost) but this really is a great lens and the best for sensor size on the market by far.

I love being able to move from 18-35mm and keep the 1.8 aperture. It is great for video and photography. I would recommend this to any one who is looking for an L quality lens on a crop body.

What attracted me to this lens is the F1.8 and the internal zoom. I usually setup with 15mm rods and Matte Box etc. and don't like to adjust the position of the Matte Box. Low light performance is super. As is often said this is a pocket full of primes.
