Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you connect the zoom p4 to the zoom h8 via usb in order to use the h8 to record from the p4 in 48 kHz?

A: I don't think connecting the two recorders via USB would work. You could could use one of the 3.5mm headphone outputs on the P4 to send a line level signal to a line input on the H8. The P4 would function like a utility mixer and will allow you to record audio from the P4 onto the H8 at 44.1, 48 or 96 kHz. You can connect the P4 to the H8 using a 3.5mm TRS to XLR cable like the Kopul Stereo Right-Angle 1/8" Male Mini-Jack to XLR Male Cable - 3' (B&H # KORSMXM03) to connect to an XLR input on the H8 or if you prefer, use a standard 3.5mm TRS aux cable to connect to a 3.5mm line input on the H8.

Q: 2. When the Zoom H8 is connected to power does it recharge the internal 4 x AA batteries?

A: The H8 recorder has no internal batteries, it ships with 4 AA batteries, but those are not rechargeable. You can use rechargeable batteries with the recorder, however; those cannot be recharged inside the recorder, if you connect the unit to a power outlet. You will need to get a separate set of rechargeable batteries and a charger.

Q: 3. Can it record a -12 safety track? If so, is it limited to the capsule input only like on the H5 and H6 recorders? thanks

A: The Zoom H8 has a safety track recording option on the capsule mics, similar to the H5 and H6. It is not available on the XLR inputs.

Q: 4. Can you set up a mix minus with this unit for webcast use?

A: Utilizing the Aux output on this mixer, you could create a mix minus to send to phone interface or separate audio interface and return the callers audio back to an available channel on the mixer. Please note, this can not be done directly through the USB port on this mixer.

Q: 5. Could you please tell me which functions and inputs are disabled in each different recording mode?

A: Please review the Zoom H8 manual: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/607695.pdf

Q: 6. I make streaming for Instagram with mackie profx6v3 to Samsung s20fe (usb) . I can do this with soundcraft notepad 8fx?

A: Yes, the Soundcraft Notepad-8FX Small-Format Analog Mixing Console can be used in the same manner as the Mackie ProFX6v3 Sound Reinforcement Mixer.

Q: 7. does it have automixing capabilities?

A: No, the Soundcraft Si Impact does not have automixing capabilities.

Q: 8. Can it be use with midi

A: No. There is no MIDI capibility in this recorder

Q: 9. Can the line out on the H8 be connected (via a splitter for left and right) to powered speakers. I suppose this would make the H8 into into something like a mixer/audio interface

A: Yes, you can use a stereo to dual mono splitter to connect the line out on the H8 to left and right powered speakers.

Q: 10. When used with DAW to record tracks, what are the supported audio standards - 44.1/48/96khz? Is it 24 bit audio?

A: The bit rate is 24 bit, and sample rates are selectable at 44.1k or 48k.
