The Schneider 6.6 x 6.6" 1mm Green True-Streak Filter is designed to be used perpendicular to a point light source such as the sun, a light bulb, or a candle. Within the filter's glass is a combination of fine line types whose action is limited to point light sources. Upon those light sources, those lines create the effect of a scene or image that has been recorded with an anamorphic lens and then displayed using a complementary reverse projection lens. This can result in prominent, elongated streaks that are symmetric and extend horizontally from each point light source for the purpose of drawing attention to a specific part of the frame, or to create a visually dramatic effect.

If an image or footage is captured with an anamorphic lens for the primary purpose of obtaining a greater aspect ratio than what is possible when only using spherical lenses on a 35mm format, the direct result will appear compressed and distorted. Projecting this compressed and distorted footage or imagery through a reverse anamorphic projection lens allows elements within the scene to be viewed in their correct proportions. A complementary effect of this process after it is completed is the creation of elongated, blue-colored, horizontally symmetrical highlights from point light sources that can extend through the frame.

Many cinematographers and photographers find this effect desirable and the Schneider 6.6 x 6.6" 1mm Green True-Streak Filter is intended to allow such highlights to be easily reproduced when using optics that do not have an anamorphic design. This filter renders the streaks it helps to create with a green hue, instead of the blue highlights generated when using traditional anamorphic optics that are not designed to suppress streaking. True-Streak Filters that are formulated to create red, orange, yellow, blue, pink, or violet banding instead of green are also available, as well as Clear True-Streak Filters that can allow existing colors or lack of colors displayed by point light sources to be maintained.

The line types within this filter's glass are placed 1mm apart from each other. True-Streak Filters with spaces of 4mm, 3mm, or 2mm between their lines are also available where this filter type's effect becomes progressively stronger as the spacing between those lines is decreased.

This filter is most effective for pictures where the light source used to generate the streak effect is a highlight with a significant degree of contrast from the rest of the image. It is constructed from water white glass for clarity as well as color fidelity.

A: Domke makes many products that are their own signature dark grey with some green in it. You can search for "Domke" and "gray/green" on our website to see many others. They call the color "gray/green." Except in especially bright light, I believe many people would think of it as more gray than green, and so do I. However, with powerful strobes being used for product photos it can appear a bit lighter than it would otherwise. In sum, I'd call it grey with sort of green color cast; Definitely more gray than green to my eyes.

Q: 3. Will 2 of these inserts fit in an F-2?

A: I have the Domke f1x little bit bigger bag with two of these inserts. They fit well. The interior dimensions of the f2 are quite a bit smaller so it's doubtful two will fit.

A: Yes, it will fit the F1X. Fully expanded, it takes up 3/4 of the interior of the bag. (It was designed to fit the F2 bag.) This is basically a cloth liner with thin (5mm) closed-cell foam inserted between the cloth walls. The bottom is not padded--just two pieces of cloth. The walls have foam inserted to them. The outer walls are not sewn closed on the bottom edge, so you can remove the foam, so, physically, it's possible to fit two of these in an F1X by removing the foam inserts and folding the cloth over itself--not a good idea. Personally, think there are more useful inserts than this one or, instead of this insert, use Domke wraps. My insert preference is the J-Series Main Compartment Insert, Item #720-2JM. You can fit two 720-2JMs side-by-side in a F1X bag. The interior dividers are reconfigurable and removable. Hope this helps your decision.
