Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a split version of this cable? I would need it to attach a thunderbolt device to the macbook retina. Of course then I loose the power charging cable. or would the macbook get power from thunderbolt devices?

A: This cable will not work with the retina MacBook because the retina MacBook has no Thinderbolt capability. The retina MacBook has a USB-C port but it only supports USB 3.1, not Thunderbolt. This adapter requires that Thundebolt 3 be supported behind a USB-C type port in the computer. As of July 2016, no Mac supports Thunderbolt 3 behind a USB-C connector, although this capability will most likely be integrated in Macs coming out in the fall 2016.

Q: 2. Will this enable my WD My Passport Pro Thunderbolt Ext Drive work with my new 2015 Macbook?

A: Yes, it will.

Q: 3. can i use it to connect my antalope orion+ (thunderbolt) to usb c port on my asus motherboard?

A: This would fully depend on the Asus Motherboard. Note that not all USB-C ports support Thunderbolt 3. If yours does, this StarTech Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt Adapter will be compatible.

Q: 4. Can I use this adapter to connect my Dell Precision laptop with Thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 Black Magic Ultra studio express capture card with no issues? I will be testing this, just wondering if anyone knows the answer.

A: I ordered the StarTech thunderbolt adapter to connect my Motu 1248 audio interface (which uses thunderbolt 2) to my Dell XPS thunderbolt 3 port. This device has worked flawlessly ever since I purchased it. The Motu 1248 is a very advanced and complicated interface, so my thinking is if it works for the Motu, it should work for just about everything.

Q: 5. I have Mac with Thunderbolt 3 need to connect to thunderbolt2 Harddisk. is this compatible?

A: I bought two of this Startech adapter. Both are attached to a PC with dual Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports. One adapter is connected to Thunderbolt 2 device, and the other to a Thunderbolt 1 device. Both devices are recognized by Windows through the Thunderbolt interface and I/O works fine in both directions. No issues whatsoever.

Q: 6. Will this work for the ace?

A: Hi, Sam. This battery plate is for the Paralinx Tomahawk and will not work with the Ace. The Ace Transmitters/Receivers can be powered either via PTap or 2-pin power source, or by using a small battery plate designed for use with the Ace (LP-E6, L-Series, BP-9, or BP-U). Try here for battery plate options: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1266814-REG/paralinx_11_1272_1_ace_battery_plate_with.html

Q: 7. Will this allow the Seagate HDD//8TB to connect to my 2012 macbook pro?

A: This adapter is currently thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2/1 connection only and is mainly used on PC to connect older thunderbolt hard drives. No macs currently support thunderbolt 3. I managed to create a 10Gb network connection between a PC and a Mac Pro using this adapter.

Q: 8. Is this battery plate compatible with the new BM URSA Mini 4K/4.6K cameras?

A: Yes it will. The Ursa Mini 4k and 4.6k will have a molex connector that will allow you to use this plate.

Q: 9. Can I use this with the ssd recorder atached?

A: Yes you can. The Blackmagic Design URSA Mini SSD Recorder, B&H # BLCURSASHMS, sits between the Camera and the Battery Plate. You can mount this on to the Ursa Mini SSD Recorder to power the camera.

Q: 10. I am requiring adapters for my Panasonic DVC Pro HD P2 mini-dvd camera to my 21.5 inch iMac which has lightening ports. My Wirefire cable is marked 1394 (which should be a 400. I've purchased a Thunderbolt 2 adapter what more do you reccomend to make the connection?

A: Unfortunately, we cannot recommend daisy chaining through multiple adapters and generations of cabling. We are unable to guarantee it would work.
