The Cavision 3 x 3" 4-Point Star Filter is a cross screen filter providing 4 reflected light points stemming from specular highlights within the image frame. When the filter is rotated in front of the lens, the points shift in direction but always reflect symmetrically. This effect is caused by thinly etched lines on the surface of the filter. Star effect filters are most effective when not used in combination with other filters.

This filter is constructed from optical glass to maintain high image quality and measures 3 x 3" / 76.2 x 76.2mm.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. what optional adapters make it fit to other cameras?

A: Sorry- typo- the screen size coverage is 1-7/8 x 2-3/4 .

Q: 2. Will this work with the canon hj18ex7.6b?

A: According to Cavision, this should fit and work correctly. The only caution is watch out for vignetting at 8mm. You may have to stay a little tighter.

Q: 3. can you point me to a telescope to use with this package? thank you

A: Hello. I would recommend a small diameter refractor, such as an Orion. You must consider the weight of the telescope because the capacity of the guider is limited. For heavier scopes, such as the smaller SCTs, I would purchase the 1 kg counterweight. I'm currently using a Canon DSLR with a 200 mm telephoto lens + 1.4x extender and use the counterweight to minimize torsion stress on the guider.

Q: 4. Will this hood work on a Lee 105mm polarizing filter mounted on the 100mm lee filter holder and will it swivel for horizontal and vertical shots using that knob I see?

A: The Cavision LH105P Wide Angle Hood B&H # CALH105P has 105mm threads so it should fit on a 105mm filter ring and swivel. However, we do not see the efficacy of swiveling for it is square and would have no effect on its ability to shade nor does it hold filters.

Q: 5. does this one fit with Fujinon XA20SX8.5BRM HD Professional Lens ?

A: The Cavision 0.7x Wide Angle Adapter lens we believe is too small and probably will vignett on the Fujinon XA20SX8.5BRM. Currently, we are suggesting the Fujinon WCV-X85 Wide Angle Converter B&H # FUWCVX85 for the Fujinon XA20SX8.5BRM.

Q: 6. What are the dimensions of this case? Is it slotted?

A: The only information from Cavision is boom pole double tube carrying case. Dimensions - length 45.27".

Q: 7. What else do I need to buy to be able to do Ap with long exposures? 5 min

A: People mentioned a ball head. I don't have one and wish I did with this tracker. Also, for aligning with Polaris, being able to keep my tripod stationary and spin the tracker on top would make it SO much easier to align. These are my two suggestions. Get the wedge too, that's a must.

Q: 8. Would I need two ball heads for panorama of the Milky Way arch? My gear I’m using is a Nikon D850 with 14-24 2.8

A: For the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTi Head Kit (Head Only), it would be recommended to use 2 ball heads when shooting the Milky Way arch.

Q: 9. Can the clamp be removed in order to attach it to my rig via cold shoe or screw?

A: Yes, the clamp is attached with a x-head screw. I'm not sure what type of rig you are wanting to attach it to, but the clamp works well. I think the gooseneck and flag would be a bit too heavy to work well if mounted using a flash-type cold shoe. It's a great product. I use it frequently when taking long exposures or HDR sequences with my Canon 17mm T-SE lens which is very prone to flare.

Q: 10. Will this fit a Panasonic hpx170?

A: The HPX170 has a 72mm filter thread. This adapter should work well with that camcorder as it has a compatible thread.
