Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What would be the focal length of this on the red Gemini?

A: BEcause the RED Gemini is an S35 sensor, the focal length is the same. If you are wondering what the full frame equivalent would be, it would be roughly a 29mm-56mm.

Q: 2. Is it compatible with BMCC MFT as mft works with manual aperture. If so, then what kind of adapter I have to buy?

A: Hi, i'm using it with bmpcc and metabones bmpcc-nikon adapter. Aperture and focus in manual mode.

Q: 3. so this is meant only for APSC lenses? can it be used on FF cameras?

A: This lens is optimized for cameras with an APS-C sensor. Using on a full frame sensor camera will cause heavy cropping and a loss of resolution.

Q: 4. Can the focus and aperture both be adjusted manually on this lens?

A: Yes, set your camera to manual focus and manual exposure. You will then manually focus the lens on the lens itself, and set the aperture via the dial on the camera body.

Q: 5. Will this lens work for canon T3i? Thanks!

A: Yes

Q: 6. Just curious... looking at one of the reviews for Sigma 18-35mm 1.8... how can this lens be considered a CON for its performance in low light? It's a f/1.8... and with a Metabones Speedbooster improves to f/1.2... can someone tell me how someone can honestly say this lens suffers from low light capability? Am I missing something here?

A: I got this lens specifically for its low-light capability, but with an aperture this (physcally) large, focus is critical. It is necessary to check the focus with this lens and autofocus isn't 100 percent reliable in low light. If the light is really low, your eyes may also struggle too. This is going to be true of most lenses. This lens sometimes misses its focus a bit, but not that often, and nobody else even makes a zoom this fast for Nikon, Canon, or Sony dSLRs.

Q: 7. What is the case dimensions?

A: Outside dimensions - 40 X 27.5 X 8.8

Q: 8. will this lens work on my bmpcc 4k?

A: Only with an adapter, EF-MTF.

Q: 9. Does the aperture step in .1 increments? Such as 2.0 to 2.1 to 2.2 or are there larger jumps like most photography lenses?

A: the step is on 1/3 increments.

Q: 10. Will this lens at least cover a full frame sensor if I use an adapter for my a7ii?

A: In retrospect, I would have purchased the Canon 16-35 L series. It has IS, the other lens does not. It is more money, but you'll be happier in the long run.

This lens is amazing for the price. Great look. Good colors. The cheapest most quality wide angle zoom that still has the ability to open up to a 1.8.

As a recreation agency, we offer lots of activities and programs ranging from classes and sports leagues to after school programs. We do our best to build a library of images that can go toward social media, print publications, and other marketing materials. Prior to using this Sigma lens, we were often vexed by our stock lenses' ability to capture high-quality shots, especially in low-lighting conditions (e.g. gymnasiums). So far our new Sigma lens has been an exciting upgrade. The wider aperture and shallow depth of field have made a big difference in our images, and really we aren't working as hard now when shooting. We're hopeful this continues to be a solid investment.

I've heard so many incredible things about the Sigma Art 18 - 35 for APS-C cameras, and after using it, it's completely justified. I'm floored by the quality and low light performance for video. I'll be excited to continue using this lens on my APS-C sensor and to test it out on Super 35 Cine cameras too!

How do prime lenses compare to this one? Let me put it this way: there are better prime lenses out there. A Canon 35mm 1.4 is far superior in quality and bokeh and color and blah blah blah. But for documentary filmmakers, this is a must have because it is the best 18mm f1.8. It is also the best 21mm f1.8. And the best 24mm 1.8, and 28mm 1.8, and 35mm 1.8. You get the picture. 1.8 is usually reserved for prime lenses alone. In this zoom, you have all of these primes at your fingertips. And it is better than all those other 1.8 primes out there. Absolutely stunning in low light. Extremely sharp. Requires precision. This is not a 24-105 f4 where everything is kind of in focus, but also not. This lens can be VERY sharp. But you have to make it that way. The color accuracy is great, and it goes great with the 50-100mm f1.8. Those are the only two lenses I use now.

1.8 zoom - blows away all my 2.8 lenses wide open - best build on the market - under 1k. Don't think and get this lens!

This lens is fantastic! Using on an 80d and I'm really happy with the results. This lens is worth much more than the price. It's like a bunch of fast primes in one lens!

I did lots of research and finally settled on the Sigma 18-35. This thing is a beast! Fantastic bokeh and tack sharp. It's a tad heavy, but it's a small price to pay for the super sharp images and short DOF that you get in exchange. It's no surprise that this is one of the most talked about lenses for both photography and video!

I bought this lens to upgrade from my canon t3i kit lens. I'm a freelance filmmaker so I needed a versatile lens for run and gun shooting and that could work in any night or day scenario. This lens is perfect for that. With a 1.8 aperture I can better shoot night scenes when I'm not in control of the night, and even in day its colors and sharpness are better than my last lens. Even with my t3i I can get great footage, I can't imagine how this would look on a bettee camera and with a good lighting set up. Get this lens if you have the spare cash. I would even go as to recommend spending on this lens than a new camera. Below are some test shots with the cinemorph filter for this lens.

This Lens does not disappoint. Got this to go with my Canon 70D and it is a great combo. Everything is smooth and feels very high quality. Autofocus is blazing fast. Manual focus pulls are a breeze. This lens is also incredibly sharp, along with a beautiful bokeh due to the f1.8 aperture. Well worth the upgrade from the kit lens I was previously using. The only real downside is the lack of stabilization when shooting video, but it's something that's barely noticeable. Sigma is simply doing things right, and for a great price.
