The GT3532 Mountaineer Series 3 Carbon Fiber Tripod from Gitzo features Carbon eXact tubing, which includes High Modulus carbon fiber in the lower leg sections, adding to their diameters and making the tripod more rigid and stronger than its predecessor. The GT3532 has a load capacity of 55 lb, extends to a maximum height of 63.4", and folds down to 25.2" for transport.

The center column on the tripod can be removed for Ground Level Set, which enables the tripod to reach its lowest height of 6.3". Its three-section legs are secured with twist locks that incorporate G-lock Ultra, which has an internal O-ring to prevent dust and particles from entering the leg system. The top spider has been redesigned to add rigidity, and large leg angle selectors give you more area to grip when readjusting leg angles. A ballast hook on the center column allows you to add weight to increase the tripod's stability.

Q: 7. Hi, what is the diameter of GT3542's Power disc ? I know there is a lip on the power disc of the new mountaineer range, I would like to know the diameter within the lip since I want my ball head base fit firmly within the lip of the power disc.

A: the diameter of the disk is 2 3/4 . The lip is flat and is 3/16 wide. Then there is a slanted section for another 3/16 until it reaches the flat bottom.. Q: 8. Has anyone compared the Mountaineer 3 series to the Systematic 3 series? Is the Mountaineer more stable, less? Assuming column at bottom...

A: We suggest that rather than which tripod is better than another, consider what is the principal use you need the tripod for. Gitzo has three groups of tripods. Systematic is the flag bearer, the best and most stable they make. Traveler is made for just that, traveling. It for the hiker, the airplane rider who needs excellence in a small, light package. Mountaineer is for those who need a compromise between the two. Very stable yet as light as possible. It is their most popular group. All are stable with the bigger, heavier ones more so. All are light and compact considering what they do with the smallest, lightest one more so. And every one famous Gitzo quality.Which group fits your needs?

i spent a ton of time researching tripods before buying this one- I matched it up with the arcatech ball and am very happy- i considered the Induro as well but wanted the best so went with Gitzo- i used it the other night in light winds and the center pulled out all the way and had no issues - of course bigger and heavier is alway more stable but I had to balance it out and decided this was the best for me and my DSLR / 70-200 or 24-70 - get one before the rebate is over !!!

After comparing the entire market, I concluded there is no such thing as a travel tripod. All quality tripods are inconvenient to travel with. The build and performance you get with this 2.8lbs compared to any 2lb travel tripod I've handled is ten fold imo, just has a longer 21'' collapsed length. If I'm really packing tight I remove GH2780 ball head (which is rock solid btw.) You buy this tripod for the appreciation of quality engineering and balance of stability, weight and size.

Carefully looked at all the competitors in this size. Worth the extra money. Very sturdy for it's size.

I moved to M4/3 from APS-C for smaller gear and form factor. It is VERY lightweight so you will def want to take advantage of the hook when using. I really love the new ground level mechanism. So quick and easy. I am 6'2 and don't need to extend the column much if at all with an Acratech GP-S head mounted. However, extending the last leg section (to get to near eye-level w/o column) is not recommended if you're going to be in any sort of wind.

This is an awesome tripod -- far surpassed my expectations. It is light weight and extremely sturdy and well made. The leg logs work beautifully and it is a huge plus for me to be able to remove the center column for working low to the ground for flower photography. I couldn't be happier. Well worth the money.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a premium tripod. I know that cost is an issue but the value is there. I followed the usual route buying and getting rid of inferior tripods. The buck has finally stopped with this Gitzo. It operates smoothly and is easy to pack & deploy quickly. Very rigid. Clever quick conversion to short column for low to the ground shots. I love this thing!

I'm surprised to find that this Series 1 tripod is as strong and vibration-stable as the same model in Series 2. Save some weight and a few bucks, folks.

I almost returned the tripod once I looked at how small it was. something told me not to. I have used it on several sessions and I LOVE IT. It supports my camera with a 70-200mm easily. Awesome product and light as a feather.
