Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the screw itself fixed to the plate, or does it turn? If it turns, does it require a wrench (Allen Wrench, perhaps)?

A: The screw does turn and it will require an Allen wrench.

Q: 2. Will this work on a Nikon D800?

A: Yes this will work for the D800. Just remove the 3/8ths thread.

Q: 3. What is the maximum width for plates that can be held in this device?

A: The plate must fit the dovetail slot in this Quickset Device. I've found that the Quickset lever won't lock unless I had a camera plate that fit into the dovetail slot properly. I use an Arca Swiss 802260 Monoball Fix 32 Camera plate (the B&H # on my order was ARSF32C) with the Quickset Device - there are other Arca Swiss Monoball Fix 32 plates available as well. I've measured the 802260's camera plates dovetail with calipers and at the 'neck' of the dovetail, its 19.07mm and at the base of the dovetail 25.85mm The height of the dovetail from bottom of the dovetail base to the bottom of the camera plate is 5.45mm. When the Quickset Device has nothing in the dovetail slot and the lever is in the closed/latched position, the opening is 23.04mm (this measurement is at the location where the camera plate's dovetail neck would fit. When I push the lever as far open as possible, the opening is 25.12mm wide -- but the lever won't close if you fit something this big into the Quickset Device.

Q: 4. Can someone clarify the two different answers below - can the dovetails be rotated on each baseplate, to switch whether the Classic or the monoballFix dovetail is the one in line with the lens axis? When I look at the additional baseplate that can be purchased separately, it seems to have the dovetails mounted in the other direction, suggesting they can be changed...

A: Hello Jonathan, Yes I confirm the dovetails can be rotated on each base plate to switch whether the Classic or monoballFix. When the plate is mounted with the narrow width parallel to the optical axis, then you can mount it on monoballFix® quik-release. When the plate is mounted with the larger width parallel to the optical axis then you can mount it on an Classic quick-release. This system is called "Dual Base". Now this L-Bracket has not been designed to change or replace the rotable plates with others monoballFix® plate. However if you absolutely need to do it, that is possible (everything is possible at ARCA SWISS :-)) but I would like to alert you on 2 points which are obvious for us but may not be clear for all the people. 1- If you replace the rotable plates/dovetail by monoballFix® plate, the you will have to choose only the ones with the grooves on their top so they will perfectely fit with the L-Bracket bases (horizontal and vertical). The compatible references are 802284, 802283, 802280, 802281, 802282 that you can find on B&H website. 2- Then you will not be able to use the screws neither the one of your L-Bracket dovetail plate (it may be too long depending on your camera base mouth depth) nor the one delivered with the additional plate (it may be too short). In that case we can provide a custom solution with specific screws but it that case we need to make a prior analysis and eventually a special order with B&H. Hope it answer your question and if you need more support, please just ask. Jean-Pierre from ARCA-SWISS

Q: 5. Arca-Swiss Cameraplate Index monoball Fix is compatible with a pin hole fitting Sigma sd Quattro? Thanks.

A: That camera is not listed as tested by Arca-Swiss. We have the opinion that there is a very good chance the locating pin will work.

Q: 6. Will this work on an Arca-Swiss C1 Cube? (CLAARC1CC 8501003.1)

A: Yes, the Arca-Swiss monoballFix Cameraplate for Select SLR Cameras is compatible with the Arca-Swiss C1 Cube Geared Head with Arca Classic Quick Release.

Q: 7. What's the minimum distance between bolt centers possible with this plate?

A: The minimum distance between bolt centers is about 8mm.

Q: 8. I would like to attach my Nikon D800 to my Black Rapid RS-7 curve strap using some quick release equipment ie arca swiss slidefix QA Camera plate and a Kirk QRC-1 Quick release clamp. Is this practical and are these reasonable componets to do it with?

A: It is doable but not practical, it's a little on the small side. I use that particular model for my Fuji X100, where it's just right. I would suggest going with the regular Arca Swiss system, I use a Really Right Stuff L-Plate which I just leave on the camera.

Q: 9. Does this have a soft top to it (so it's not hard metal against the camera)?

A: There is a rubber grip on the top of the plate that keeps the plate in place without scratching the camera body.

Q: 10. Can the Arca part of the clamps be rotated 90 degrees so the Arca grooves are in line with the bracket instead of at right angle to it?

A: Unfortunately, the Arca dovetail portion of the Arca Swiss L-Bracket MonoballFix Universal cannot be rotated 90°.

I needed a replacement for my ailing Mafrotto ball head which badly needed replacement... I Needed something that I could rely on. Very well built/solid and smooth. No regrets so far. ...

This is well built and solid head that is very easy to use and holds quite a bit of weight without any problem. Operation of this head is quite simple but works securely. Movement of head and panning control is very flow and smooth. Great tripod head in overall!!
