The SD-SDI to Composite Converter with Audio De-Embedding is an expansion board the requires the 1RU version of the XIO-series rackmount frame. The card takes a single NTSC or PAL SD-SDI input and converts to two composite analog outputs. So the signal can pass to downstream devices without requiring a separate distribution amplifier, the SDI input is also looped back out. Along with video, this converter will also de-embed two stereo pairs (4-channels) of analog audio from the SDI stream.

Q: 1. Will this replace the audio if there is already chanles on the SDI Input? Add to them?

A: You can choose to replace existing channels or add to new channels leaving the originals.

Q: 2. Do I have embedded audio singal on the SDI-output of this converter?

A: This converter will de-embed audio from the SDI Input. The SDI Output will be the same as the SDI Input. No change to the signal. So if there is audio on the SDI input, there will be audio on the SDI output.

Q: 3. Is the analog audio output balanced or unbalanced?

A: The Blackmagic Design SDI to Audio Mini Converter has 4 channels of professional balanced analog audio with standard 1/4 inch jack connections.

Q: 4. I see there are mini switches on this, what numbers to do you have on?

A: Hi Maria -Assuming that you want Analog audio out, leave all the DIP switches off. If you want digital audio out (AES) the switch positions are silkscreened on the unit. Just a note: Some Blackmagic mini converters use one switch for processing on or off which you'll need in the on position for the unit to work. This doesn't apply to this one (SDI to Audio) but to some of the others available in this product line.

Q: 5. The manual implies this is "yes" but I'd like confirmation. After embedding 8 channels of AES/EBU into SDI on Channels 1-8, can I output the SDI into another BMD Audio to SDI Mini and embed another 8 channels of AES/EBU audio into 9-16... outputting a single SDI cable with all 16 channels of AES and video?

A: Absolutely, I do this quite often. Just some simple dip switch settings.

Q: 6. will it do 10-Bit?

A: Hi Nathaniel...Video processing is 10 bit.Audio processing is up to 24 bit 96Khz

A: No it does not.

Q: 8. Can you delay the audio to sync with the video? Looking to use without a computer. Audio from Mixer and Video from PTZ Camera. I will need to sync the audio, can this be done?

A: From working with this device, there is no way of delaying the audio source at all.. You can change the setting to where the analog audio is being set to the SDI stream. Like 1-4 or 5-8, etc Hope this helps.

A: Connect your SDI camera to the input to the Mini Converter. Connect your audio console analog audio to the audio inputs to the Mini Converter. The output of the mini converter connects to the Ultra Studio

Meaning: Do I have to run an SDI Video Signal INTO the unit? or can I simply run four channels of audio into this and have it ORIGINATE the SDI signal?I'm interested in using a single SDI cable to get audio from studio to control room, but don't need to embed it into a video signal, so I'm wondering about an audio only solution. Thanks.

A: I think that would work without any issues, but I would contort Blackmagic to confirm. They have great customer service.
