Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens Auto Focus for Nikon D80?

A: Don't know about a D80, but it auto focuses fine on a D750.

Q: 2. I bought a Canon SX50HS soon after it came out and loved the superzoom. however, quality was lacking when my better shots were printed 11 X 17 so I have upgraded to a larger sensor Nikon D5500 but need more reach for wildlife shots. I see that this and the yet to be released SIGMA 150 - 600 are both made mainly for full frame cameras and have heard reviewers saying that APS-C frame camera users may experience slow focus with moving subjects and also less quality in their pictures vs full frame camera users so I'm hesitant and could use advise as I'm new to the DSLR. I don't see any other options out there, will this lens give great, good, average or poor results when used for birds in flight on a D5500?

A: Mine works great with my full frame camera or the aps-c. The details with the full frame croping are amazing but with the other great as well

Q: 3. Is this lens compatible with D90?

A: I am sorry but I do not know.

Q: 4. I have read several reviews and am a bit confused. Will the lens work with either a D800 or D810 and a teleconverter and still be capable of auto focus?

A: You will find the performance to be a bit better on the Nikon D 810, however if you plan to use the lens-teleconverter combo to track moving subjects, then your results will drop dramatically. You would be much better off to use the DX mode on the D 800 or D 810 to take advantage of the crop factor since this gets you the effect of the teleconverter without lowering the amount of light hitting the sensor. The only drawback is now your skill needs to be higher in order to keep your subject in the center of the frame. This can be challenging when you have the whole frame to work with and becomes much more difficult in the crop mode. In short, there are tradeoffs with every choice you make so choose wisely....!

Q: 5. Does it have image stabilization?

A: I got the lens with the Sony A mount. That does not have vibration compensation since the Sony cameras typically have in body vibration compensation. The mounts for Nikon and Canon do have vibration compensation. There is a newer version of this lens available for Canon and Nikon mounts, but I am not sure how much better the newer version can be than the original, as this lens has been fabulous with my Sony A65, focusing quickly and accurately, while giving an incredible approximately 900 times zoom with my APS-C sensor. This lens is one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Q: 6. does it work with a Canon T5i?

A: Yes, this lens is compatible with the Canon Rebel T5i.

Q: 7. I have an older Canon Rebel XSi and would really like a lens with more reach. I'm a just an amateur so am wondering if this will work on my old camera. I'm just wanting something for birds and wildlife that gives nice clear shots. Is it too much lens for a newbie to use?

A: I'm sure it will work with your camera. It is a very easy lens to use and produces some great results. Go for it. It is a real value.

Q: 8. Trying to decide which telephoto lens under $1500 to buy for my canon? I have a 24-105mm lens which is a pretty good all around lens but I want something with a little more reach to hopefully take on a safari one day and an Alaska trip. Ideally I would love a canon ef 100-400 but that's a little out of my price range. Is the Tamron 150-600 the way to go?

A: Hi, I have had my Tamron 150-600 for a while now, not used it a ton but I have taken a few 1000 pics with it. Mainly sports photography (windsurfing and kitesurfing, I use a solid tripod with a Benro Gimbal mount (the kind where the camera becomes weightless and you can move it with your fingertip) it is great!. Most the pics are taken in good lighting conditions so I can really use the full potential of the zoom. I use a canon 7D with it so I get a full 840mm out of it (1,4 factor with the smaller censor). For the money it is a great lens, I have tried the old 100-400 and to be honest I use the last 200mm up to 600 more often than anything. It is quite the difference in how close I can snap pics with full details in the face from a distance far far away. For a safari trip I am sure the lens will do even better as your objects most likley will be sitting still more or less, at least compare to a windsurfer or kitesurfer who is moving across water... Have fun on your safari, and bring the 150-600 and you won't be dissapointed.

Q: 9. This lens is good for wildlife photography ? with Nikon 7500

A: Yes, this lens would be suitable for wildlife photography.

Q: 10. Is this a better deal than the new Nikon 200-500

A: I believed for this pricepoint you can't beat this lens!!

I'm just an amateur bird photographer, but this lens has already made a huge difference for me. My previous camera (Nikon Coolpix 9900) had an incredible built-in zoom, but saved files only as jpgs. After it was stolen, I switched to a Nikon DX7500, which came bundled with with two Nikkor lenses (18-55mm & 70-300mm). Both lenses work very well — but not well enough for bird photography in the field. My new Tamron lens has the reach I need, with the same clarity and ease of use. One note: although not as heavy as other lenses of similar reach, it's still heavier for me than is comfortable, especially when I've got a pair of binoculars around my neck as well. I've bought a monopod to use with this lens — makes it much more usable and stable out in the field.

Wow, just wow! An incredible lens that focuses quickly, has nice stabilization built in and is clear! With a 600mm zoom, you can really get out there. This thing is a beast! It has some heft, but I knew that when I bought it, so it's not a bad thing. It works great with our Canon EOS Rebel SL3. Great for birding!!!

Recently started to use this lens for bird in flight photography, I am able to hand hold which is a big deal compared to my Nikon 200-400 f4. Seems to focus fast enough so far and some recent pictures came out great. For the price I do not believe you will get a better lens in the focal range of 150-600

I purchased this lens to take wildlife, landscape, and moon photos. The lens is built well, and love the weathering of the lens. I had a few issues with using the lens and I think it was me and not the lens. Also I believe that I need to calibrate the lens for my camera. I did purchase the Tamron TAP-in Console and will be my next step. The focuses is off. I focuses in the center and have to refocuses using manual focus.

The lens is great, a little heavy, but this is a matter of habit, before that I had a 100-400 lens, which is also great, and it's a pity that Tamron has stopped producing lenses for Nikon, my camera is the D7500.

Much lighter to carry around than the lens it replaced and the extra 100mm of focal length helps as well. As an older photographer of birds, weight in combination with functionality is increasingly important. The focus is a bit slower, but only noticeable when trying to focus on a fast-moving or small bird. Even then, it's not that much slower.

1st the build quality of this lens with weather sealing is awesome for this price point. The couple of test photos I took are just as other reviewers stated. Focus works great with My D750. Picked this over the Nikon because of weather sealing and extra reach. No comparison with Sigma contemporary. Very pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend BH and this lens.

I have used the G1 model for over five years and loved it. It was used for both terrestrial photography and astrophotography. Loved the G1 model but I felt I wanted to upgrade to the G2 model. The G2 model is even better than the G1 model and I look forward to many great photographs with this lens.

What an amazing lens. Super fast focus, great image stabilization, and well constructed. I’ve shot several freehand shots and the photos are amazing. It’s got some heft to it, but that’s to be expected for this size of lens. Super cool!
