The Pentax smc FA 645 80-160mm f/4.5 Lens is a medium telephoto zoom lens with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 63-126.5mm and a maximum aperture of f/4.5. The autofocus lens can stop down to f/32 and features multiple types of low dispersion glass elements throughout its 11 element and 10 group construction. This is benefited by the use of a Super Multi Coating that helps eliminate flare and ghosting.

The lens can focus as close as 3.3' during use and has an eight blade diaphragm to help create smooth out-of-focus areas. Also, it can accept 77mm filters via a front thread and includes a lens hood. The 80-160mm also features the ability to turn the front of the lens while the hood is attached for easily adjusting your filters.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I am confused. If a full frame sensor is smaller than 645, shouldn't the effective focal length increase instead of decrease?

A: Typically, angle-of-view and focal length are described relative to full-frame 35mm as it is more widespread in use. Crop factors would be then be 1x for 35mm, 1.5x for APS-C, and 0.6~0.8 (rough estimate) for medium format sensors. Since this lens is still technically (from physical distance measured stand-point) 400mm from the sensor, it's a 400mm lens. However, its angle-of-view would be equivalent to a 315mm on a full-frame.

Q: 2. What is the minimum focusing distance? What is the maximum magnification?

A: The Pentax smc FA 645 300mm f/4 ED (IF) Lens has a minimum focusing distance of 7.22' / 2.2 m. This lens has a maximum magnification of 0.16x.

Q: 3. What is the right replacement lens shade for this?

A: I contacted Pentax with your inquiry, and they stated the correct lens hood for the Pentax smc FA 645 80-160mm f/4.5 Lens is the Pentax PH-RBF77 Lens Hood, MFR Part # 38729. Unfortunately this lens hood is no longer manufactured by Pentax and currently we do not have the lens hood in new or used options. I did check our new department and our Used Photography Department, but unfortunately, we do not have the lens hood new or used. As such, you may have to check either online in used camera stores or on a auction site like eBay to see if anyone is selling the lens. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Q: 4. can it be used with the 645Z body?

A: Yes, this lens will work on the 645z body

Q: 5. The lens is front-focusing and I can not correct it with the 'Apply One' setting in the fine adjustment menu. How do I find out if this lens is in the 645z database or not ? If it is only adjustable with the 'Apply All' setting It would be not so convenient to remember to zero the setting every time i change lenses. Any info appreciated. Thanks.

A: Please email us at photo@a href= http://bhphoto.com target= _blank bhphoto.com/a for assistance with your inquiry.

Q: 6. Does this lens offer total manual control?

A: YES

Q: 7. Hi there, I am new to Medium Format Cameras, does this lens have Vibration Control?

A: Shake reduction built into the lens is already old and redundant technology. The newest technology is Pentax's shake reduction done on the sensor instead of the lens. Already rolled out on models like the K1 and KP. Let's hope they include it into the next version of 645.

Q: 8. Has anyone compared this to the older manual focus 120mm f/4 A lens? I have it and it gives focus confirmation beep, I can't imagine it being much shaper but I don't use it for portraits because I don't want the delay of finding focus using live view and zooming in...

A: The Pentax smc FA 645 120mm f/4 Macro Lens is improved from the older version, because it has better muticoating on the lens, giving the photographer fewer hazy images with improved contrast and sharpness.

Q: 9. please can someone tell me how to set this lens sot auto focus?

A: You have to pull in the furthest ring for manual or automatic focusing

Q: 10. Is this lens compatible with the Pentax 645n medium format film camera?

A: The Pentax smc FA 645 33-55mm f/4.5 AL Lens is compatible with the Pentax 645N camera.

Have wanted a Macro lens for some time. When Sigma stopped making Macro lens for Pentax cameras, I started looking at Pentax Macro. Used it the next day in the early morning in my backyard taking some Macro nature photos with the frost just starting to melt in the morning sun. Really liked the outcomes.

I mostly use this lens for close up photos of flowers and butterflies. The camera never mistakenly focuses on a nearby object if I manual focus onto the object as a rough focus, then autofocus for the final shot. Pictures of items that are very close, such as 10 inches, are stunning. Would be an excellent camera for capturing jewelry, coins, stamps etc.
