The GT1532 Mountaineer Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod from Gitzo features Carbon eXact tubing, which includes High Modulus carbon fiber in the lower leg sections, adding to their diameters and making the tripod more rigid and stronger than its predecessor. The GT1532 has a load capacity of 44.1 lb, extends to a maximum height of 62.2", and folds down to 24.4" for transport.

The center column on the tripod can be removed for Ground Level Set, which enables the tripod to reach its lowest height of 6.7". Its three-section legs are secured with twist locks that incorporate G-lock Ultra, which has an internal O-ring to prevent dust and particles from entering the leg system. The top spider has been redesigned to add rigidity and large leg angle selectors give you more area to grip when readjusting leg angles. A: Right above where legs attach there is a lock collar that even has wings for griping. Turn that counter clockwise. Raise center column and retighten.

A: I love the 2 series Gitzo Mountaineer. The 1 series is lighter, but I found the 2 series more stable toshoot with. Very sturdy and beautifully made.

A: The tripod extended without the column extended is 52.4 inches. And it is about the same with the column taken off.Taking the column out on this model is very easy. This is a new design; a single simple unlocking ring under the column's upper disc frees the column while keeping the upper disc solidly in place on the tripod.

A: Mine does not have a built-in level of any kind. I bought it in Dec 2017, and I'm guessing they have not added one since then.
