Q: 1. Does this come with the monitor and speaker stands?

A: It does not come w the monitor arm and speakers stands. They can be bought separately.

Q: 2. The manual doesn't have any info on the audio outputs, I assume they are Balance and Line level?

Q: 3. Is there a mode to set the flash to auto-off after a period of non-use to save batteries?

Q: 9. Are there any detrimental side effects if this ring light is used with a UV filter between the flash and lens?

A: None that I have noticed, that said there is always a UV filter on my macro lens so I don't think I have ever used it without. I have invested in a quality filter appropriate to the EF100mm 1/2.8 L lens as I would not like to use the macro without one as it gets very close to the subjects which are often dusty, wet or covered in pollen.

Q: 10. Will the MR-14EX work properly with a Canon EOS-1D Mark II?Also, I have a clear filter on my Canon 100mm macro lens. How can I keep this arrangement and still use the MR-14EX? I realize the ring lite will clip on the lens without the filter, but I wish to keep a filter on the end of the lens.Regards ..

A: Yes, the Canon MR-14EX Ring Lite is fully compatible with the Canon EOS 1D Mk II camera. The Ring Lite is designed to fit onto both/either Canon 100mm macro lenses in the same manner that a lens hood mounts to each lens (bayonet type fit on the outer perimeter of the lens) and as such will allow you to leave your clear filter on the lens.

I use this for close-up photos where other flashes blow-out the photo. I have the new Canon G1 X and have not been able to get the adapter yet so I have used this off camera and achieved nice shadow results of shells and rock collections from travels. Plan to use with other small items and flowers come spring, and perhaps portraits. While results have been good, it is a huge & flash and cumbersome for my purposes and on my smallish camera. It will help some when the adapter arrives so I can actually mount it to the camera lens area.

I'm using this flash with my Canon 7D and a 60mm EFS macro lens. With this lens it fits perfectly with no adapter and it works great. Recently brought it to a fly tying show and was able to get remarkable closeups of flies with perfect lighting, no highlight blowouts, and great color replication without shadows. It even did extremely well on portrait pictures of the fly tyers. It is well constructed and syncs perfectly with the 7D providing ideally balanced lighting every time.

Easily interchangable with both macro and 18-55mm lens. Easy to use.

I originally bought the Metz ringlight due to price, past history of quality and wireless but I could not get it to sync with my Canon 7D as a slave so I called B&H and they immediately allowed me to return and exchange it for the MR-14EX. This flash works great. The E-TTL works great and you also have full manual controls for both of the flash bulbs and yes it can be a setup as a slave as well. I like my 580 more as it is more powerful and provides the ability to use most anywhere but it is not good for macro. The MR14EX is pricey but if you want no headaches and power with a lot of flexibility this is the flash for you. It would be nice if it went up to 77mm lens diameter instead of the 72mm limit.

Great for macro and very versatile use for other purposes as well. Ability to manage the light direction and power is very useful and provides a wide range of composition choices. Needed to attach to Tamron 90mm and called B&H and got immediate support for the right ring adapters to make it work. Very impressive.

I had purchased the 24ex thinking that the 14ex was inferior in some way, but the reality is that the opposite is true. The flash is just as power on the 14ex as the 24ex, and the 14ex comes with built-in diffusion. You have to purchase the diffusers separately with the 24ex. And when does anyone want a raw flash in their photographs?!? I purchased a Storm Case with the camera/flash kit I put together, and every time I pulled the camera and 24ex out of the case the 2 flash units on the front would rotate or tilt (they move along 2 axis) and I'd have to reset them each time. The 14ex has no moving parts to readjust (or break). Don't get me wrong, the 24ex has its place, but the 14ex is a much more solid, compact product.
