The Tiffen 6.6 x 6.6" Black Satin 1/4 Filter can be applied to purposely reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles while providing an intentional warming effect with granularity over an entire image. This can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject while highlights are softened, contrast is reduced, and textures are given a smoother appearance. Additionally, halations around highlights are created which can further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect while overall sharpness is maintained.

This filter has a grade of 1/4. Grades of 1/8, 1/2, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

This filter is constructed from water white glass for increased clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Hi! Would this filter fit together with Leica 12470 lens hood on a Leica 11673 (Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH Lens)?

A: Yes you can use the Leica E39 UVa II Filter (Black) with the Leica 12470 lens hood. You need to screw the filter into the lens and then the hood to the filter.

Q: 2. Does the filter Leica E43 UVa II fits the Summilux type 2 E43 lens? I know that the filter thread is normally 0.5mm on this lens, however the filters from BW 010M are supposed to be 0.75 and they fit the lens. Thank you!

A: Leica filters fit Leica lenses !

Q: 3. Why is the 13037 replacement for 13373? Better quality than 13373?

A: While Leica Germany is not specific on the details regarding the differences between the filters, Leica does simply state that they have improved all optical parameters of the filter, which infers that our current (newer) II filter's glass and optical coatings would be of higher quality compared to their older (discontinued) original version.

Q: 4. What does the E in E82 mean? Will this fit any standard 82mm front threaded lens or is it Leica specific?

A: No, this is not Leica specific. The E or is standard nomenclature for filters sized in millimeters (E82 = 82mm). The filter should thread perfectly.

Q: 5. Will this work well with the Impact SF-ABRL160?

A: Yes it should work once it's got a hole where the umbrella rod can go through.

Q: 6. Does 13034 fit Summilux FLE 11675 with square lens hood 12551?

A: Yes the Leica E46 UVa II Filter (Silver) will work with the Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH. Lens (Silver) when using the square lens hood.

Q: 7. Can the Leica Q lens hood still be used when this filter is mounted on the lens?

A: Ye it can. There is ample clearance provided.

Q: 8. Are these umbrellas made for 7mm holes or 8mm holes?

A: The shaft size is exactly 8mm verified with a caliper.

Q: 9. Will this work with Leica M Elmarit 135mm F2.8 (11829)?

A: The Leica M Elmarit 135mm f/2.8 lens is not compatible with a 55mm filter; it uses a Series VII filter: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1204605-REG/leica_13044_series_vii_uva_ii.html

Q: 10. With the Leica 18mm lens when using this UV Filter does the Leica Lens Cap fit securely? It does not using a Chiaro Filter.

A: If you are referring to the Leica Elmarit-TL 18 mm f/2.8 ASPH. Lens, then yes, the Leica E39 UVa II Filter (Silver) should be compatible for use with the lens, and the lens cap should still be compatible for use on the 39mm front filter threads on the filter.
