The DA-6400 DP from TASCAM is a 64-channel digital multitrack recorder/player that records to an internal SSD caddy for live and event recording. With I/O options like MADI and DANTE, it is ideal for live recordings, event capture, or to a backup for critical DAW sessions. In addition, the DA-6400 is a suitable option for professional remote recording.

Furthermore, the recorder/player features an AK-CC25 hot-swappable caddy containing a 240GB TASCAM solid-state drive, and the caddy includes a USB-3 jack for stand-alone use. This allows you to hand the drive to the client to offload the BWAV-files into their DAW session. The DA-6400 records 64 tracks at 48 kHz/24-bit or 32 tracks at 96 kHz/24-bit. Also, included on the rear panel are SMPTE timecode, word clock, RS-422, parallel, Ethernet connections and two power supply inlets.

The I/O options for the DA-6400 include the IF-MA64/EX interface card (sold separately), with both coaxial and optical MADI connections. This card contains a redundant coaxial connection so that MADI is passed through even if power is lost, making it an ideal backup recorder for DAW sessions. Additional cards (sold separately) include the IF-MA64/BN coaxial MADI card, IF-DA64 Dante card, and IF-AE16 AES/EBU card, with more to come.

In conclusion, the TASCAM DA-6400 combines high performance, flexibility, and complete reliability in a solid-state 64-track recorder.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this have a built in metronome? can you quantize the audio as well to tighten up the tracks?

A: Yes to the metronome. The Livetrak records audio, not MIDI data, so you cannot quantize an audio waveform (that I know of) The unit is simply amazing and I use it to record podcasts on location as well as recording bands. The trick is to make sure your input levels are steady at 3/4 of the meter (VUFS) and do the final mixing in your DAW.

Q: 2. Will it record 24-bit/48 kHz Resolution ?

A: Yes, the L-12 is capable of recording at 48kHz/24-bit.

Q: 3. Does it have 48v phantom power?

A: Ronin,Yes the unit has 48v phantom power.See p.33 of the Owner's Manual available here:a href= http://tascam.com/product/dp-03sd/downloads/ target= _blank http://tascam.com/product/dp-03sd/downloads//aThank you for your interest in TASCAM products.

Q: 4. Can you select individual lines to get phantom power so you can use dynamic and condenser mics at the same time?

A: Phantom power is either, all on or all off, to all channels.

Q: 5. Using this as an audio interface with StreamYard and Skype... guests hear an echo on theor end, but don't hear one from me. I don't hear the echo live, but do in recording. Any ideas? Using a MacBook Pro. Mic plugged into Input 1. Computer plugged into Input 7 (USB 1-2).

A: You will not be able to easily configure a mix minus to send via USB.

Q: 6. Does it have Bluetooth connectivity?

A: There is no Bluetooth connectivity on this unit, but if you are looking to connect a smartphone for call-in's, you can do so with the included 3.5mm TRRS cable. Simply connect this cable from your smartphone into the 3.5mm channel 7/8 input, and the Zoom LiveTrak L8 will put the caller in the mix and create a mix-minus back to the caller.

Q: 7. Can you record isolated tracks on the SD card? Or only via USB on your computer?

A: You can record the isolated tracks directly to an SD card, to a computer, or both simultaneously.

Q: 8. Can you transfer the final recording to CD? How?

A: You can bounce to a final stereo track for the song you are working on and then connect the recorder to your computer using a separately available USB cable to get the file burned to CD. Here is a link to the USB cable that you would use from the recorder to your computer. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/825187-REG/Pearstone_USB_AMB3W_3_USB_2_0_Type.html

Q: 9. Can you monitor the input with the built in reverb added?

A: The unit does not have that ability.Full details on the unit's features and functions are available here:a href= http://tascam.com/product/dp-03sd/ target= _blank http://tascam.com/product/dp-03sd//aAn Owner's Manual is available from the DOWNLOADS tab.Thank you for your interest in TASCAM products.'

Q: 10. Does it record individual chanel?

This is a great little unit for when you need to get the job done, but don't want to carry a lot of gear. The user interface is really well done, and there are features here that are unbeatable for the price. My favorite things about the mkII - being able to capture backup channels at a volume you can specify, and flexibility with i/o signals. It's a solid performer with quiet preamps with enough gain for most mics, and it gets the job done well.I will be using it for film - two channels for gathering location sounds in stereo, and a third for running a shotgun or hyper for spot dialogue recording. One thing that some people will not like is that the preamp level controls seem to only be updated at a timed interval, rather than smoothly in realtime. After thinking about this, I actually rather prefer it this way - in post audio, it is much easier to simply adjust volume in a certain section, rather than have to ramp up and down on the boundaries to match a knob twiddle. I actually consider this a feature now.The only thing I didn't like was that if you turn on a channel's limiter, the whole noise floor seems to be raised to an obvious point. This could use some work in their next version. The mkII will certainly satisfy that bewilderingly difficult-to-acheive holy grail of mixing and recording on one unit (really, it's 2014...) for indie filmmakers under $ - but there are a couple corners cut here and there - overall a fine compromise for those of us on a budget. It may not have all the features of a $ unit, but really, it does everything really well, and it sounds dang good.

I walked in not knowing what I wanted and these guys didn't act like they just wanted to sell me a product. They were very informative and friendly in showing me everything that I needed and compared with other products. The knowledge of products and features made my decision solid. I will most definitely continue to shop here

Great unit for added recording with a DSLR. You need cables to connect the unit to your camera, do don't forget to order them. Slate works well to sync the audio to your video. The unit looks tiny in the photos. I shoot with a Nikon D610 and it is as wide and almost as tall as the camera itself.

I mount the Tascam to my rig with a T3i and Rode NTG-2. Works great for weddings! I can pick up all the changing-room gossip without worrying about clipping or distortion.I also use it for short films, especially foley. I live in the echoey-ist house on planet Earth, so it's great to crank up the gain, get close to my subject, and maximise the source/echo ratio. So far, I haven't needed the dual-level recording mode. But it's good to know it's there.Solid build quality--not as rugged as an all-stainless Sound Devices recorder, but for $$I'm not complaining.

I bought this so when I shoot video I can use my Nikon cameras and not have to use my Panasonic just to record audio. It has a lot of options and is a really good solution for DSLR audio. This newer model has continuous rotating knobs that allows adjustments while recording. The older model had clicking knobs that caused some issues. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it has a prerecording mode where a red light flashes and when it is recording it is a solid red. It would be nice to have the flashing red light when recording so that my cameras and Tascam are all blinking. Not a major issue, but you need to keep an eye on it. Really pleased with it
