The beige Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Reduced Sensitivity and LEMO 3-Pin Connector for Wisycom Transmitters is a subminiature lav microphone designed to deliver clear, full-bodied sound and reliable performance, making it a popular choice among industry professionals in broadcast, TV, theater, film, videography, and more.

Engineered to meet the standards of modern digital wireless microphone systems, the COS-11D is RF shielded to eliminate interference issues and ensure a pristine audio signal. The microphone capsule features a rectangular design that sits vertically, increasing the surface area and allowing this tiny mic to offer a rich, full sound that outperforms many larger models.

The mic's 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response rolls-off extreme low end and provides accurate, transparent audio reproduction with a small presence boost in the 6 kHz area for crisp, intelligible speech. With a forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern that picks up sound in a 360° pattern, levels stay consistent, even when the subject turns away from the mic.

A water-resistant mesh screen protects against humidity, perspiration, makeup, bad weather, and other potential on-location issues, while the durable cable is also moisture-resistant and built to stay soft and pliable, even after extended use. This version of the COS-11D terminates in a 3-pin LEMO connector and is wired for use with Wisycom transmitters. A metal windscreen, holder clip, rubber mount, and plastic case are included.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this mic compatible to be used with a Denecke PS power supply? I'm having a problem, cause I just hear a loud hum noise and no transmitter signal. I tried it with other mics and transmitters, and I hear the same loud hum noise.

A: Yes, the Sanken CS-M1 can be used with the Denecke PS-1A or PS-2 which are both compatible 48V phantom power supplies. The Denecke PS-T is not compatible for use with the CS-M1 because it is a 12V "T-power" supply intended for use with older microphones that require lower voltage and the CS-M1 requires 48V phantom power.

Q: 2. What is the lowest profile / minimal shoe mount that will work with this mic? I want to attach it to the FX3 for Vlog'ing and want something small.

A: A mount such as BH #ROSM3R Rode SM3-R Camera Shoe Shockmount is a quality option that marries the desired characteristics of low profile, built-in shoe adapter, and shock absorption for use with the Sanken CS-M1 Moisture-Resistant Ultracompact Shotgun Microphone: https://bhpho.to/3K2vXlW

Q: 3. Does this has extreme wether proof design and RF rejection like NTG3 and Senn MKH416?

A: The Sanken is fairly robust in adverse weather, but it is not weather-proofed. Its directionality is comparable depending on the environment.

Q: 4. What frequency recommendation for Hawaii and is there a website that can best help us find out what frequency is free while traveling for work?

A: All three of Sony's UWP-D frequency bands are compatible for use in Hawaii. The UC14 frequency band (470 to 542 MHz) is the best option and the UC25 band (536 to 608 MHz) is nearly as good. The UC90 band (941 to 960 MHz) will also work. Each band has 2,772 auto-scan frequencies so chances are very good that you will be able to find a clear frequency to use anywhere in the US, Canada, or Mexico.

Q: 5. Hi. Will the range UC25 (536 to 608) work in Europe as well? Thank you.

A: The Sony UWP-D27 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Omni Lavalier Microphone System for UC25: 536 to 608 MHz may work in Europe. The frequency bands for wireless microphone systems differ in every country, so you will need to check the FCC regulations for the country where you will be to make sure that this frequency band can be used for unlicensed or licensed wireless microphones.

Q: 6. Im sony a1 user with vertical grip and sony 600 gm lens. And i need the lightest zenelli gimbal. Which one you recomend?

A: Zenelli CARBON ZR Reduced Gimbal Head is the lightest weight compatible with your equipments. If you need to swivel your camera to track a motion the best recomendation would be Zenelli CARBONZX Carbon Fiber Gimbal Head with Accessories with a weight of 2 lb.

Q: 7. Is there a cable/adapter to use a sanken cos-11BP mic with this system?

A: The Sanken COS-11D-BP Lavalier Microphone has a standard XLR male connector and requires 48V phantom power to function, so it is not compatible for connection to a wireless transmitter with a simple cable adapter. In order to connect the COS-11D-BP to a Sony UTX-B40 Wireless Bodypack Transmitter for the UWP-D27 2-Person Camera-Mount Wireless Lavalier Microphone System, you will need to connect the mic a phantom power supply first to provide sufficient voltage to the microphone, and then you can use an XLR female to locking 3.5mm TRS Sony cable to connect the output from the phantom power supply to the input on the transmitter. As an option, you can use the Xvive Audio P1 Portable Phantom Power Supply with Rechargeable Battery (B&H # XVP1) together with the Sony EC-1.5BX 3.5mm Locking Mini-Plug to Female XLR Cable - 4.9' (B&H # SOEC1.5BX). The Xvive P1 is lightweight and has a built-in rechargeable battery, as well as a belt clip.

Q: 8. Hi, I just ordered this mic a couple weeks ago. So far it has not shown to turn on or record any audio, nor did I receive an instruction manual with it. I have plugged it into my canon 5d mark III and also a Zoom H5 recorder, and both have giving me no sound from the mic and some plug in noise. No levels are shown to record. I have not been able to find any troubleshooting pieces on line. Can you help me?

A: This microphone requires power you need to send it 48V

Q: 9. Are there any advantages or disadvantages of using the UC90 version? Is it true that a license is required to use this band.

A: No license is required to use any version of the Sony UWP-D27 within the USA. There is no objective benefit to any frequency block over another, as the frequencies used has no direct effect on audio quality. The only case in which you would prefer one frequency block over another would be if 1. there is radio activity/interference within one band in your area, or 2. if you need to ensure compatibility between this and another Sony wireless device.

Have used the H1m for months and love it. Because I use the H1n during inclement weather/windy conditions I made a DIT deadcat (~$15 in materials from Joann Fabrics) and the H1n performs flawlessly; I can record in very high winds at the beach without any rumble normally causes by the wind. Highly recommended.

The quality of the recording set me back on my heels. I took old 50 year old reel to reel tapes and recorded them to stereo with this little digital gem. The quality and reproduction was outstanding. I even used the recordings as part of our church's Christmas morning service. I was very impressed. Don't hesitate to purchase. Plus B@H's customer service is the best.

So many devices are too complex for a hobbyist like me. This one is very easy to use to capture spontaneous ideas. The quality of the recordings is great. And if the idea is worth developing - I was able to transfer the files into Garageband very easily.
And I'm super-happy with the price. I'm really glad I pulled the trigger and purchased this!

Use the windsock, they're very sensitive. But they do a fantastic job once you leave them to their design.

If you move it around you're going to get movement noise placing it again. Either mount it for movement considerations or place it where you want it for the session. if you do this you'll get great results.

No it's not a performance or broadcast mic, but then it doesn't cost $500 either. For what it does, it does very well.

It does chew through batteries faster than I'd like, but I now use rechargeables in it. I simply take a few extra.

I've used it as a secondary recorder for fill sound on another channel. Also in lecture settings and interview sessions. WORKS GREAT !!
