Made to greatly simplify the process of focusing with anamorphic adapters, this SLR Magic Rangefinder Cine Adapter provides a calibrated focus scale, marked in feet, industry standard focus direction, and a cine-style focus gear for your lens set up. When using most anamorphic adapters that mount to the front of your lens, focusing requires matching the distance on the anamorphic adapter and the lens itself; this can cause problems when trying to pull focus. However, when using the Cine Rangefinder, you set both your anamorphic adapter and lens to infinity and pull focus on the rangefinder.

You can use the Rangefinder Cine Adapter to provide accurate focus markings, and using the adapter minimizes the appearance of lens breathing. It mounts to lenses with 77mm front filter threads, and you can use optional step-down rings for lenses with smaller front threads. The adapter integrates a cine-style focus gear, allowing it to easily interface with a variety of optional focus accessories. It allows you to focus your lens or lens/anamorphic adapter combination from 3.5' to infinity.

Works with SLR Magic Anamorphot adapters (1.33x50 and 2x50) to provide single gear ring focusing.

You can use the Cine Rangefinder on lenses without an anamorphic adapter as well. This is useful when working with lenses such as Nikons, which focus in the opposite direction from cine-style lenses, or when using lenses that have neither focus gear nor reliable distance markings.

Using the adapter allows you to minimize the effects of breathing that your lens or lens / adapter combination would ordinarily suffer from.

Once your taking lens is properly set to infinity, the focus distances on the adapter (marked in feet) are accurate and repeatable.

The adapter provides your lens with a focus range of 3.5' to infinity. Even if your lens or lens and anamorphic adapter combination by themselves do not focus as close as 3.5', using the adapter brings the minimum focus distance to 3.5'

The front 82mm filter threads of the adapter rotate as you pull focus on it. This may cause unwanted optical effects when using filters such as star or polarizers.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can i use it with my Sony alpha 7ii?

A: The question is more can it be used with the lens you have on your Sony a7 II. An advantage with the a7 II is that you can select full frame or Super35/APS-C as your recording set up. Depending on the lens(es) you have, select the sensor size to use. If you have lenses between 35-100mm, shoot Super35/APS-C. If you have lenses in the 70-100mm range, use full frame.

Q: 2. Can I use this on my Blackmagic Pocket 4k?

A: Yes. The Pocket 4K has a 4x3 Anamorphic mode.

Q: 3. Will this work on a Panasonic LA7200 1.33x anamorphic lens? It has 77mm threads.

A: Well, in the chain of lenses , we have the taking lens (mounted to camera), the anamorphic lens (mounted to taking lens) and finally the SLR Rangefinder mounted to the anamorphic lens. This means that it would be necessary to find some way to mount the Rangefinder on the front of the LA7200; probably not easy and probably subject to vignetting. While there are other reasons besides the single focus capability to use the Rangefinder, be aware that one of the LA7200's great advantages is that is a focus through anamorphic; that is, the action of the taking lens focusing does the job. Hope this helps.

Q: 4. Will this work on a Isco 1.9x anamorphic lens?

A: It would depend on the size of the front of the Isco 1.9x lens. Even if we knew the exact lens, this information seems to be unavailable since the lenses appear to be out of production since 2001. If it is 77mm or less (by using step down rings) it probably will work. However, without the two pieces in hand, we are unable to say for sure.

Q: 5. Pleas does this work with Kowa Anamorphic 16-H??

A: It does not. This only works with SLR Magic Anamorphot adapters.

Q: 6. do the diopters that come with the 1.33x set work as well to help the rangefinder focus closer if you attach the diopter first to the 1.33 then the rangefinder to the diopter?

A: We are of the opinion that the results will will be the same whether or not it is possible to do what you are surmising.

Q: 7. Hello Everyone!I want to ask you 3 questions about anamorphics in the gh5s!1) Do you think the SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 2.0x with Rangefinder Cinema Adapter Kit set is a good buy?2) Does the 2.0x of slr magic means that it doubles the width? same focal length but twice as wide?3) I bought the SLR Magic 25mm T0.95 HyperPrime Cine III Lens and it seemed to me of very good quality and I am thinking of buying the other lenses of this line. the 17 mm, 50mm and maybe the 35mm (or the 42.5mm of Voigtlander Nokton) the question is, if the equivalent of 35mm to the gh5s of all these lenses is x2, example the 17 is 34. what is the modification when you add it the SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 2.0x ???Thank you very much!!!!

A: 1) its ok but not fantastic. Only useful if you have a lot of space between you and the subject (as with all anamorphics). Think sets and outside location. Real life interiors are not a good fit. 2) correct 3) I have found it only works with lenses from 50mm (with speedbooster) and above, hence my answer for question 1 - you mostly just get close-ups. Also F-stop needs to be 3.5-4 and up or it's very fuzzy and hard to focus. My recommendation is to definitely TRY IT FIRST as there is no return policy. Also, on my gh5, the data rates for anamorphic are way too small, 150Megabits compared to regular shooting 400 All-Intra. Maybe with atomos would be better. Very particular type of lens setup, slow to change lenses, very few projects can benefit from it.

Q: 8. Will this SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 1.33x anamorphic adapter work with SONY Distagon T* FE 35 F1.4 ZA and FE 90 F2.8 Macro OSS lenses and SONY A7Riii camera?

A: We're afraid not. In this case the most important aspect is that this adapter only works with lenses between the focal lengths of 40-85mm on a Full Frame Camera. The adapter would not physically fit on these lenses either.

Q: 9. Will this work on the Fuji X series? For example the Fuji 18-55mm kit lens. As it's a cropped sensor would it make a difference?

A: This adapter requires a lens that has the proper filter thread along with the proper focal length and diameter of the lens itself. For APS-C cameras the focal length needs to be between 35-85mm, that lens will have a portion that is not usable. It also requires to have a lens diameter of no more than 50mm and the lens you suggested is larger than that. We do not believe they will be compatible.

Q: 10. So if my fujinon lens has a 62mm thread on the front (for filters) it should be fine right?

A: That will depend on the lens you are using. Along with the proper filter thread the lens itself must be under 50mm in diameter. Additionally the focal length of the lens and sensor size of the camera plays a part in compatibility. For an MFT sized sensor the lens' focal length must be between 20-85mm. For a Super 35mm or APS-C Sized Sensor it must be between 35-85mm.
