The pin style with the single drilling can be tightened or loosened with an awl, small screwdriver, or similar bit you might have on your multi-tool. The pin with flats requires an open-end wrench, either adjustable or the correct fixed size. A suggested practice is to go through your complete kit to ensure that you have all of the tools needed to adjust or fix every threaded part of your rail, tripod, light bracket, or anything else you use.
