Customize your tone and capture quality sound indoors or outside for your next indie film, TV shoot, or documentary project with the Rode NTG4+ battery- or phantom-powered shotgun microphone. Specialized features such as low-noise circuitry, digitally switchable pad and frequency settings, and minimal handling noise reduce the need to repair and restore audio in post production.

The elevated sensitivity of the NTG4+ allows it to produce strong output levels without having to apply extreme gain at your mic preamp. Sonically, the NTG4+ delivers warm sound due in part to its gentle dip in high frequencies and its rumble-reducing selectable low-cut filter. A switchable treble boost is on hand for situations where additional clarity is needed.

The combination of the 10.9" long body and supercardioid polar pattern yields focused front-facing directionality and enhanced attenuation of sound entering from the sides. Its low self-noise of 16 dBA and sensitive condenser element communicate detailed audio unburdened by the hiss that plagues many low-cost microphones. Plus, its balanced output allows longer cable runs than most camera-mount shotgun microphones.

Operate the NTG4+ on 48V phantom power or via its internal rechargeable lithium battery, which provides up to 150 hours of run time. The micro-USB port and supplied USB cable enable easy recharging in just two hours—charge the NTG4+ via a computer, power brick, or vehicle. Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output, the NTG4+ is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.

Digital switching not only allows for intuitive access to the mic's settings, but it also retains their states when the mic is switched off. Activate the 75 Hz low-cut filter to reduce low-frequency noise from common sources such as air conditioners and traffic. Use the +6 dB treble boost for enhanced clarity and intelligibility (best for environments with minimal high-frequency ambient noise). When loud sound sources threaten to distort your recording, switch on the -10 dB pad to attenuate the input level.

The lightweight, metal-bodied NTG4+ includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the NTG4+ in the Rode SM4-R shockmount or Rode PG2-R pistol grip (both available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations in boompole or handheld applications.

The NTG4+ has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the Rode Blimp furry windshield and shockmount suspension system (available separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are there any audio quality differences between the NTG4+ and NTG?

A: Both are excellent

Q: 2. Which is the best option between the 3? NTG2, NTG4 or Sennheiser MKE 600

A: Having owned the NTG2, NTG4+, and used the NTG3 quite a bit, I can tell you they are very different microphones. If you can afford the NTG3 it will give you the most sensitivity. Too much at times. The NTG2 is inexpensive and can hold a AA battery for phantom power, but has no off switch. This is why I purchased the NTG4+. The internal battery lasts a full day and can be turned off when not in use. I like Sennheiser, but have not owned a shotgun from them, so can not offer an honest opinion.

Q: 3. is it includes these microphone wind shild

A: It actually comes with the foam windshield. It will the do the job inside, but it's not very effective outside. I recommend buying a separate windshield.

Q: 4. Is this a better mic for capturing dialogue than the MKE600 ?

A: The NTG4+ and MKE 600 are comparable in terms of performance and audio quality. You should get similar results using either mic, so it's really a matter of personal preference.

Q: 5. When do you expect to ship these?

A: The Rode NTG4+ is currently available and shipping.

Q: 6. When I have the microphone plugged into my H4n, I have to turn the audio in the H4n almost all the way up, which sounds terrible because of the white noise. I have to do the same thing when I have it plugged into my DSLR. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? People have been saying this mic sounds great, but I'm not getting that. It sounds like a $60 mic for me.

A: Hi Cody. Are you using 48v phantom power from your Zoom or are you using the built in battery of the mic? I would suggest NOT using the -10db pad on the mic to ensure you are sending out the best signal from the mic to your device. If you still cannot get a decent level please send us an enquiry at a href= http://rode.com/contact target= _blank rode.com/contact/a and we can help further.

Q: 7. would this mic work with SKP 100 G4 Plug-on transmitter for dynamic microphones.

A: Yes, you can use the Sennheiser SKP 100 G4 transmitter with a Rode NTG4+ shotgun mic as long as you are using battery power for the mic. The SKP 100 does not supply phantom power.

Q: 8. Would this mic work with my Sony adapter for my A7s? It has an xlr in??

A: The NTG4+ will work with an XLR adapter that is able to provide 48 volts phantom power to the mic.

Q: 9. I am looking to use this with a Saramonic SmartRig with a TRRS to TRS adapter to avoid buying the Sony XLR-K2M. Will it work?

A: The RODE NTG4+ Shotgun Microphone is compatible for use with the Saramonic SmartRig+ 2-Channel XLR Microphone Audio Mixer with the 3.5mm TRRS connector. It may also be compatible for connection to the 3.5mm TRS mic input on your DSLR or mirrorless camera. If you are only going to use the NTG4+ mic with your camera, you can connect the mic directly to the camera's 3.5mm mic input. Power the mic with its internal battery and use a cable with XLR female and 3.5mm TRS male connectors like the Kopul XRSM 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm RA Stereo Mini-Plug Cable - 1.5' (B&H # KOXRSM015B), which is a good length for mounting on the camera, or use a longer length if you want to use the mic off-camera, on a boompole or stand.

Q: 10. Is this Phantom Powered?

A: The Rode NTG4 will require phantom power in order to operate.

This mic is a big step forward for me in Video Production; the sound quality is amazing!

This microphone picks up almost any sound you can throw at it in an environment. It does have a cardiod pickup pattern so sounds behind it aren't going to be very noticeable, but any sound within its pattern is extremely clear and well defined, and the patttern even though it's cardiod is still somewhat wide. If you need something within an extremely directional pickup you might want to get a mic with a super cardiod pattern, but otherwise this mic is a fantastic piece of equipment.

How I Use This Product: Audio recording for video. I hook it up to my Zoom H4N and sync up the sound in post with footage from my 5D MK II. I highly recommend using a shock mount while mobile on a boom pole. Other wise, this mic is so sensitive, it'll pick up the vibration sound. The included mic clip is great if you're leaving in stationary on a boom mic stand. Excellent pickup pattern. In a quite studio, it works flawlessly if you put in on axis correctly. Out in the field, it does exceptionally well for getting the target sound. Picks up some background noise, but as long as you get room tone or ambient noise track separately, you won't notice. It'll just sound natural.Overall, very impressed. Worth the money and since it's the only mic I have right now, I'm finding it to be very versatile in all my video and foley situations.

I am not new to the world of sound and video. I purchased this mic as a backup mic. It has moved to first place, I am purchasing a second one maybe the NTG-2 (maybe not-do I need battery power) I am using it in a Panasonic Ag-Af100 The sound I am getting with this mic is beating out sound sent to me from professional sound boards, In both tight room settings and video taping bands in a small to medium stage area. It gives me dual channels, which I can dial up as I wish on the camera. I also am impressed with the warranty and service from bhphoto, a bad cable and it took less than 45 seconds for them to commit to sending me a new one. yes 45 seconds and we were done. Thanks BhPhoto I will be back

My TV production students use this mic in the field and it picks up great sound! We have an NTG-1 & NTG-2 and both mics are awesome. Would definitely recommend if you plan on getting quality sound in the field!

A great little microphone that performs exceptionally well in outdoor conditions even with only the included windscreen. Perhaps consider buying a 'dead cat' to improve performance or reduce its sensitivity to wind. I am fully satisfied with my purchase.
