If the roll is off my as much as 1/4 , the paper will jam and your ribbon will break.2. Change the ribbon at the same time - this is just for convenience - then you avoid the potential of haveing 2 changes during one event. You always get a ribbon with a roll of paper so it just makes sense to keep the roll with the paper.
