The black Sanken COS-11D Omni Lavalier Microphone with Reduced Sensitivity and TA5F Connector for Audio-Technica Transmitters is a subminiature lav microphone designed to deliver clear, full-bodied sound and reliable performance, making it a popular choice among industry professionals in broadcast, TV, theater, film, videography, and more.
Engineered to meet the standards of modern digital wireless microphone systems, the COS-11D is RF shielded to eliminate interference issues and ensure a pristine audio signal. The microphone capsule features a rectangular design that sits vertically, increasing the surface area and allowing this tiny mic to offer a rich, full sound that outperforms many larger models.
The mic's 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response rolls-off extreme low end and provides accurate, transparent audio reproduction with a small presence boost in the 6 kHz area for crisp, intelligible speech. With a forgiving omnidirectional polar pattern that picks up sound in a 360° pattern, levels stay consistent, even when the subject turns away from the mic.
A water-resistant mesh screen protects against humidity, perspiration, makeup, bad weather, and other potential on-location issues, while the durable cable is also moisture-resistant and built to stay soft and pliable, even after extended use. This version of the COS-11D terminates in a TA5F connector and is wired for use with Audio-Technica transmitters. A metal windscreen, holder clip, rubber mount, and plastic case are included.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Do they sell the belt clips for these anywhere?.. or any substitutes for belt clips?
A: Tascam DR-10L Micro Portable Audio Recorder with Lavalier Microphone (White), would come with a belt clip.
Q: 2. Can I use line level signal on the AT897?
A: It only has an XLR out, so it will be a mic level output. It does have a spot where you can put a battery in, if you do not have phantom power in your recorder though.
Q: 3. I'm looking to shoot two or three people in one shot, with the boom overhead on a stand. Mostly indoors. Would this mic capture everyone's dialogue if there is no boom operator to move to the speaker?
A: A shotgun mic should be used to pick up dialog from one person, or professional sounding audio. If you use it to pick up two people, the sound will become thin. I would suggest using a boom person, or setting up two mics in a stereo configuration.
Q: 4. What sort of windscreen comes with it? Necessary to buy an additional one to minimize breaths and pops?
A: Hello! To help with breaths and pops, I also purchased the Auray Fuzzy Windbuster for Lavalier Microphones additionally for about $20 to help with this and so far works well for my needs.
Q: 5. How do I monitor the audio during recording?
A: Hi, theres a headphone out. But with my unit it sounds kind of crappy. I read online that the headphone out is soft. So I just trust it is working fine. And of course it is fine on the computer.
Q: 6. I'm encountering A LOT of fuzz in the background when recording with this straight into my 5dMKii does anyone have a solution?
A: There can definitely be issues with connecting to the MK II's directly. In the long term, look into an external recorder. For now maybe search around for solutions for the exact model of your firmware/camera and external mics. Might be interference from bad hardware.
Q: 7. Does it come in white for a brides dress?
A: Unfortunately it does not come in white.
Q: 8. What does the limited 1 year warranty cover?
A: The Limited 1-Year Warranty covers failure due to defects in the manufacturing process.
Q: 9. I'm intrigued by the M-S setting, which Lisa described as traditional stereo. I'm wondering if the mic is set to MS, whether it could be used to mic two people sitting very close together for an interview. Possible?
A: The Audio-Technica BP4029 (AT835ST) records in M-S Mode and Left/Right Stereo Modes. Yes you can use it to interview people sitting very close together, up to about 5 feet away from the mic at the very most.
Q: 10. I’m shooting a film on an iphone. Is there a way to connect this mic with the phone?
A: The Saramonic LC-XLR Female XLR to Lightning Microphone Adapter Cable for iOS Devices (B&H # SALCXLR) can be used to connect the AT897 to your iPhone You will need to use a battery to power the mic since the iPhone can not supply phantom power. The other options for cables are the Saramonic SR-XLR35 XLR Female to 3.5mm TRRS Microphone Cable for DSLR Cameras and Smartphones (B&H # SASRXLR35) combined with the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H # APLAADAP). The MXL Female XLR to 3.5mm Male TRRS and 3.5mm Female TRS Multimedia Adapter Cable for Select Dynamic Microphones (B&H # MXMMCABLE) provides a 3.5mm TRS headphone tap which allows you to monitor the sound while recording. This cable can also be combined with the Apple Lightning adapter for use with an iPhone.
