Designed to provide a portable yet steady platform for refractor optical tube assemblies (OTAs) with apertures up to 4", Tele Vue's Gibraltar HD4 Alt-Az Mount features a Tele-Pod head and a custom-designed Berlebach ash wood tripod that has large bearing surfaces and thick legs that can handle heavier loads with greatly reduced vibration, especially when viewing at high power. The legs raise the altitude axis from 3.5 to 5 feet and markings on the legs allow for repeatable setting to preferred heights. A wood accessory tray ties the legs together for rigidity, and a built-in pier not only adds extra height to provide a more comfortable viewing position for the user, it allows the OTA to be aimed at or near the zenith without hitting the tripod. A bubble level is integrated into the tripod base and metal ground spikes with rubber tips are provided to give it added stability on soft ground.

Q: 1. I am using this telescope and i am a complete newbie when it comes to stargazing. I am trying to see venus from the balcony of my building, but when I zoom on it, I just see a white dot. Does that mean its a star or is there something im doing wrong? Because it worked fine with the moon.

A: No, you're doing nothing wrong. Venus goes through phases just like our own moon and can be closer or father away. You may want to get a higher magnification eyepiece or a 2x Barlow Lens to magnify the planet and increase its size . Sincerely, Kevin at Celestron

Q: 2. How tall is the tripod ?

A: Sorry that information is not specified by Explore Scientific.

Q: 3. If Payload Capacity is 44 lb / 19.96 kg (without Counterweight) does that mean I can add to payload capacity by installing the counterweight?

A: So the Counterweight is meant for balancing, so it can move smoothly and track accurately without unwanted vibration or putting additional wear and tear on the motors. It does not add on extra Payload for more weight to the Mount/Tripod.

Q: 4. Is the Tele Vue TEC-1018 Eyepiece Caddy compatible with this mount?

A: Yes it is compatible.

Q: 5. Can this be used for daytime scoping too?

A: Yes this Model can be used for Terrestrial use during the daytime, since it comes with a 90° Erect-Image Diagonal.

Q: 6. Hi I brought my daughter the telescope and have no idea how to set it up or even how to use it. The lady at the store said just look through the finder and that’s it. Well that’s not the case cause we can’t see anything and don’t know what we are doing. Can you help please?

A: Please contact our experts in Celestron's Technical Support department. Our representatives will be happy to answer any questions you may have, including how to get your new telescope set up properly. The best way to reach them is to submit a ticket here: https://www.celestron.com/pages/technical-support

Q: 7. Which Barlow lenses would you recommend for this scope?

A: I would recommend this Celestron Omni 2x Barlow Lens: https://bhpho.to/2ZeywLX

Q: 8. is the unit comes with Male Dove Tail Base and Thumb Screw ? Kindly RASAP.Abbas

A: Included with the Starbeam is a mounting bracket with slotted holes positioned to accommodate a wide variety of accessory holes found on popular models of SCTs, but mounting screws need to be acquired separately. A dovetail plate on the Starbeam simply slides into the bracket for fast installation and removal. This Starbeam SCT model fits the rear cell of any 8" or larger SCT OTA.

Q: 9. Can you put it on a nicer tripod; can it come off of the tripod it comes with?

A: The tripod that is included has a different thread then your standard tripod head mount. So you won't be able to use a different tripod unless you go about doing some modifications.

Q: 10. Does it come with the 3x Barlow Lens or it Just support it?

A: Yes in the box: Celestron ExploraScope 114AZ 4.5" f/8.8 Alt-Az Reflector Telescope 3x Barlow Lens 4mm Standard Eyepiece 20mm Erect-Image Eyepiece Front Aperture Cap StarPointer Finderscope Aluminum Tripod with Accessory Tray TheSkyX DVD-ROM Limited 2-Year Warranty

The first moment I looked through this lens, I was total blown away. The 72 degree APOV, is very pleasing, compared to the 60 degree APOV, with my current lenses. Also the clarity of vision, is the best I have ever seen. In my opinion, you could not buy a better lens, than a Tele Vue, and when my finances permit, I am going to by more of them.

This is my first Tele Vue eyepiece. I purchased it because I wanted a good quality medium/high power eyepiece for Lunar and Planetary viewing. My first impression was that the fit and finish is excellent. It's just a bit smoother and more precise than many of my other eyepieces. It has a very high quality look and feel.I used it on a night of decent seeing and transparency in my 98mm refractor. It showed excellent sharpness and contrast on the moon. The Cassini division was very distinct on Saturn, as was the planet's shadow on the rings. It carries with it the usual plossl caveats, relatively narrow field of view (vs. the widefield eyepieces that flood the market these days) and short eye relief. It is very good at what it does and the fit/finish and optical quality is very good. The cap for the end with the eye-cup only fits with the eye cup raised. With the eye cup folded back the cap doesn't fit over the rolled up rubber eye cup. After some use when you unfold the eye cup it's usually stretched just a bit from being folded and it's a bit fiddly to get the cap back over it in the dark, but it's a really nit-picky problem. Definitely recommended.

What can I say? This is a fantastic eyepiece!. Being able to use my Dioptrx on it is just icing on the cake.

This eyepiece performs as good as could be expected from a plossl. As usual, TeleVue products beat all competitors.
