Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the total distance of travel that this device will allow?

A: 4 1/2 inches is the total range of movement

Q: 2. What do I need to connect two of these plates at 90 degrees so as to have left/right and forward/backward movement? Do I need extra QR plates? I'd like to attach to a Manfrotto ball head.

A: You can attach the two units directly to each other. If you want to be able to easily detach your camera you can add a quick release clamp to the rails.

Q: 3. Can this be used to shoot jewelry close up at f/5.6? It will need to be able to adjust in very small increments. Thanks

A: Yes works great. Product Photography How To Tutorials that include jewelry. http://www.tabletopstudio.com/HowTo_page.html

Q: 4. Hi, I have a Manfrotto MH054-Q2 tripod head and am looking for a macro focussing rail that will work with that. Will this one do that, also any other rails that you might suggest I look at? Thanks

A: I think this rail would work on any head. At the bottom of this rail, there are two holes for the two main sizes of screws that are usually in use, commonly the 1/4 size and 3/4 size. So, I believe you can fit this rail head on any other heads you have (that is, fitting the detachable plate of the tripod head to it).

Q: 5. Is there a 'correct' front and back; ie. with Manfrotto logo & scale on right and worm thread on left, or vice versa?

A: The Manfrotto 454 Micrometric Positioning Sliding Plate will work equally well in either orientation.

Q: 6. Will this railing work with Manfrotto tripod 3021BPRO and a bullhead 488RC4?

A: It works very well together with my Canon 7d and 100 Macro

Q: 7. I just received this product and the two screws were in a little plastic bag. They do not fit through the opening in the sliding rail so there is now way that I can mount my camera. Am I missing something about assembling this product?

A: One end of the rail is threaded, just screw into that thread up through the rail.

Q: 8. The groove for adjusting camera position is asymettrical on the plate. Why? Which is the front end?

A: The knob to adjust fore and aft positioning in the Manfrotto 454 Micrometric Positioning Sliding Plate is usually placed on the left of the camera so that you can take photos with your right hand and control the fore and aft with your left hand.

Q: 9. Will this work on a Manfrotto 498RC2 ball head?THANKS

A: yes

Q: 10. I am considering more involvement in macro photography. I understrand the purpose of rails and photo stacking. I am wondering about the use of cable release and a lens ring to add to the stability of the set up. However, is it possible to use a cable release with a Nikon D90?

A: There are many remotes for the D90. This is a wired remote for the D90, http://bhpho.to/1alWxywAnd this is a wireless version, http://bhpho.to/1cm0HdBA lens ring can either be a reverse ring to attach two lenses together for macro photography or it could mean a Macro ring light.

I prefer this paper for black and white prints when there are highlights of varying light tones that this paper will give a extra special sparkle, a soft glow that ordinary printing paper cannot. I do not like the metal substrate based prints as a personal preference, but I love this option to create a similar effect. It is worth the extra expense that this unusual paper produces.
