Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How does audio quality and range compare with conventional Sennheiser Evolution series wireless? The compact receivers are attractive, but I am concerned about apparent lack of lack of traditional wireless features like diversity receivers.

A: The AVX digital wireless systems are compander-free and offer pristine audio reproduction. The transmitter outputs at 100 mW (average) so should be minimal to zero trade off with regards to range.

Q: 2. How well suited is this for live events, such as a ballroom with a presentational speaker? Will lots of people in the room interfere with the signal if the tech table is in the back? Will the automatic gain control affect the person trying to bring the voice up on the board?

A: The AVX system is very good, but it has a short operating range of up to 98 feet (line of sight) and you may experience problems with signal dropout if the receiver is too far from the transmitter or if anything blocks the signal path between the transmitter and receiver. If you want to have the same flexibility as the AVX combo system to be able to switch between lavalier and handheld mics, you may like the ew 100 G4 combo system which includes the ew 112P wireless lavalier system combined with an SK 100 plug-on transmitter that will attach to any dynamic mic with an XLR output connector, allowing you to select your own handheld mic. If you prefer the Sennheiser wireless handheld mic, you can purchase an SKM 100 G4 Handheld Wireless Microphone Transmitter with No Mic Capsule (B&H # SESKM100G4A1) with a Sennheiser MMD 835 Cardioid Dynamic Capsule (B&H # SEMMD835) and combine it with an ew 112P G4 lavalier system (B&H # SEEW112PG4A1). Please contact us if you would like further assistance.

Q: 3. I'm shooting with a 16mm camera so won't be able to phantom power the receiver. Can I power it w/ an external battery instead?

A: You could use a portable phantom power supply such as the Mackie M48 Single-Channel 48V Phantom Power Supply (B&H # MAM48) or the Xvive Audio P1 Portable Phantom Power Supply with Rechargeable Battery (B&H # XVP1) to power the Sennheiser AVX EKP Camera-Mount Digital Plug-In Receiver included with the Sennheiser AVX-Combo SET Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Microphone System.

Q: 4. is one of the Lav's an MKE2?

A: They are both ME 2's

Q: 5. Can I use it on Phoenix Octopus device for an additional Microphone?

A: Unfortunately not. The Phoenix Audio MT454-PA Octopus USB Base Unit is no longer available. Also the Phoenix Octopus is for Audio Conferencing and full Duplex Communication. The Sennheiser AVX you are referring to is two separate wireless mic's. With XLR receiver's that plug right into the camera. It was designed primarily for "run and gun" type of work.

Q: 6. Does this come with 2 xlr receivers so the two mics can be used at one time?

A: This is the combo system. Ships with a single receiver unit along with handheld and belt worn transmitter. Only one transmitter would be operational at a time.

Q: 7. If I want 4 lavs across two cameras, will buying these work or will I get some feedback?

A: The Sennheiser AVX series wireless microphone systems are single-channel so only one transmitter can be used with each receiver. The Sennheiser AVX 2-Person Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Combo Microphone System with Case Kit will allow you to mic two people and both receivers can be connected to the same camera. In order to mic four people at the same time using the AVX systems, you will need to have four individual AVX systems (or two of the AVX 2-Person Kits). So you can use two of the AVX 2-Person Kits with your two cameras. Up to eight of the AVX systems can be used simultaneously within a 98-foot range. Interference and feedback would not be a problem.

Q: 8. Is there a pro version of this kit upgraded to mke lavalieres?

A: Currently, the only ENG package we carry that feature an MKE lavalier is the AVX-MKE2 SET-4-US and it does not come with a handheld microphone or in a dual set-up.

Q: 9. Can I use my own Cos-11 mic with this transmitter?

A: If your COS-11 is wired properly for Sennheiser EW Evolution Wireless, yes you can. If not, and if you're not equipped to wire it yourself, B&H sells a COS-11 Pre-Wired for Sennheiser. Item# SAC11WNSETRB

Q: 10. Is there any (easy) way to convert the EKP XLR Receiver output line into a headphones output? NOT THROUGH A CAMERA OR ANOTHER DEVICE. Just with an adapter o cable? Thanks!

A: Unfortunately not. The output level on the Sennheiser EKP receiver is fixed at mic level. Additionally, there is no way to monitor audio on this system unless one is doing it thru a mixer or a headphone output on the input device.
