Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use it on Phoenix Octopus device for an additional Microphone?

A: Unfortunately not. The Phoenix Audio MT454-PA Octopus USB Base Unit is no longer available. Also the Phoenix Octopus is for Audio Conferencing and full Duplex Communication. The Sennheiser AVX you are referring to is two separate wireless mic's. With XLR receiver's that plug right into the camera. It was designed primarily for "run and gun" type of work.

Q: 2. Does this product need a separate charging base for batteries on transmitter and mic? How long do batteries last?

A: The Sennheiser AVX-Combo SET Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Microphone System includes the NT 5-10U USB power supply/charger and a USB cable for recharging the BA 10 Accupack battery in the handheld transmitter, the BA 20 Accupack battery in the receiver, or the BA 30 Accupack battery in the bodypack transmitter. As an option, you can separately purchase the Sennheiser CHG 2 2-Bay Tabletop Charger (B&H # SE506219), which has universal charging slots for either bodypack or handheld transmitters with the batteries inside, and can also charge the BA10 and BA30 batteries without the transmitters.

Q: 3. How would you plug in the transmitter into a PA system Mixer? I'm thinking all I'd need is a 3.5mm male-to-3 pin XLR (male or female) short cable...with the 3.5 end plugged into the transmitter, and the the XLR end plugged into an XLR "out" on the board???

A: The AVX transmitter only excepts a mic level signal, so you would have to add a PSC ALMP Line to Mic Level Pad In-Line Barrel Adapter, B&H # PSALMP, along with a cable which you correctly mentioned. The Remote Audio 3-Pin XLR Female to 3.5mm TRS Locking Adapter Cable for Sennheiser Transmitter (2'), B&H # RECASEK100L would be a good choice .

Q: 4. Is there a way to listen to the audio while simultaneously recording with the XLR adaptor on a DSLR?

A: Generally the answer is no. The AVX, like most wireless systems, outputs a mic level signal. It is not designed for direct audio monitoring. If you want to monitor the signal you have a couple of options: Use the headphone output from your DLSR (if it has one), use a mixer between the AVX wireless receiver and the DSLR ( JuicedLink, Beachtek, and Sound Devices offer a great range of products, these usually have a built in headphone amplifier for audio monitoring), or use a field video monitor that includes audio monitoring from the camera's HDMI port. I would just double check if your DLSR is actually sending audio down the HDMI port.

Q: 5. I often use my EW100 kit to transmit an audio feed from a sound console. Does the AVX platform provide for such an application?

A: Yes, you can. Just like the EW, you would need to use the CL-2 cable to connect an output from the mixer to the transmitter.

Q: 6. Does this kit comply with the current FCC spec for wireless transmission?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser AVX-Combo SET Digital Camera-Mount Wireless Microphone System is legal for use within the USA without an FCC license. It operates on the 1.9 GHz band.

Q: 7. Transmitters appear to be exclusively for lavalier mics. What are the options for use with boomed mics or existing production audio mics like Sennheiser MKH series that require phantom power?

A: The Sennheiser AVX system has not come out with a plug-on transmitter yet. If you need one that can supply phantom power, the Sony UWP-D system can supply the 48v. Sennheiser EW100 series only will work with dynamic mics. However, their EW 300 series will supply phantom power.

Q: 8. Does this come with 2 xlr receivers so the two mics can be used at one time?

A: This is the combo system. Ships with a single receiver unit along with handheld and belt worn transmitter. Only one transmitter would be operational at a time.

Q: 9. Is there a way to listen to the audio while simultaneously recording with the XLR adaptor?

A: Headphones from your camera.

Q: 10. Can I use my own Cos-11 mic with this transmitter?

A: If your COS-11 is wired properly for Sennheiser EW Evolution Wireless, yes you can. If not, and if you're not equipped to wire it yourself, B&H sells a COS-11 Pre-Wired for Sennheiser. Item# SAC11WNSETRB
